PT is no longer tied to Digi hardware, and they've finally caught up to other DAW's in certain features as standard, but the complete feature set is only available as a rather expensive plug-in package. Digidesign has been headed down that road with the Music and DV Toolkits for PT LE for quite some time, anby tc - Café LA - X Re: FCP 6 Video Card - 12 years agoHi, Blackmagic Designs Decklink Extreme. Mine has worked very well on a G5 dual 2.5 with similar specs. Lots of use with FCP, Pro Tools, AE. YMMV! (Just so happens mine is available for sale, as I'm replacing the computer.) tcby tc - Café LA Re: Audio Glitch- 1 channel playing back slow - 12 years agoHi, Interesting! What is your audio output device? tcby tc - Café LA Re: Importing or opening DPX to FCP - 13 years agoGluetools: Hope that's helpful. tcby tc - Café LA Sony DSR-11 - 13 years agoAnybody need such a thing? Granted, not totally elegant, but the execution was flawless and hence not frustrating. tcby tc - Café LA Re: A Machine to Upload Mini DV? - 13 years agoContact me offline if you are interested in getting a DSR-11. asap.post_at_yahooby tc - Café LA Re: Can't copy Apple Pro Training Series Lesson/Media Files to MacBook Pro Hard drive - 15 years agoHey there. You could try putting the laptop in target mode and copy the files via firewire from your MacPro desktop to see if those files work. tcby tc - Café LA Re: OT: Need BIG help with 3/4" JVC deck - 16 years agoSorry, CaseyPetersen, I don't recall. Just be VERY careful of transformers, heads and components. There's voltage in there. Hey, is VTR Services still over in the Valley? They are: Might be worth a call Good luck. tcby tc - Café LA Re: OT: Need BIG help with 3/4" JVC deck - 16 years agoHere's a faded memory from days of yore: If you've got the top cover off, and can see the pc boards, look for a very tiny board-mounted button, black or red, on a metal base that's about a 3/16" square. When pressed and held for a couple of seconds, it'll reset the transport mechanics and eject the tape carrier. Power cycle the deck, then see if it'll work with an undamaged tape...by tc - Café LA Re: OT Audio Record Quality of DVD at EP Mode - 16 years agoYou could record directly to Audacity or Pro Tools, or any other DAW format. with sufficient hard drive space and a stable system you can record for hours, even days at a time at full resolution. I would also simultaneously record a protection reel on another format.by tc - Café LA Colorist needed- Job filled - 16 years agoHi- I'm looking for a colorist (not necessarily in Color, but definitely in FCP 6) to color correct and grade a 12 minute short film shot on DVCPRO 50. Looking for a well balanced theatrical quality output. EDIT- 090307 Just so you know- we don't have unrealistic expectations of turning video into film- the footage looks pretty darn good- but we need to even out the lighting and color forby tc - Jobs Re: Quick Time Export size - 16 years agoDitto Here. Adding info in the hopes that somebody might be able to put together an answer. I recently completed a three-segment project shot on HVX-200 as DVCPRO HD 720P. All was as expected with two of the segments (960x720), the third seems to think it's 1280x720. In fact, the auto-settings feature in FCP made (and continues to make) 1280 sequences. If I force the footage into a 960 seby tc - Café LA Re: ProTools question - 16 years agoHi, Jude- Yes, with no problems, but not on a MacPro. Digidesign Core Audio Manager may not allow PT to launch if another app gets there first. If FCP is using Core Audio Manager, this problem can occur. Or is it independent of having multiple apps open? tcby tc - Café LA Re: Is this the best quality for the web? - 17 years agoHi, Sound design/editorial tip #1- Don't use music with lyric/vocals underneath dialog. tcby tc - Café LA Re: Need to send roughcut clips over the web for client approval- slightly OT - 17 years agoHey, folks- Has anyone used a bundled satellite internet connection (like DirectTV, etcetera) with any success? AT&T is getting me down... Thanks. tcby tc - Café LA Re: OT - thoughts on youtube - 17 years agoHere's The Wave Of The Present: These are the guys responsible for Kaza'a and Skype- so they aren't kidding around! There's also an article in the Feb `07 issue of Wired magazine. My 2¢: Surf it if you can, or get a mouth full of sand! The times they are a`changin'. Just like always. Cheers. tcby tc - Café LA Re: Anyone know of a good "smoke" transistion? - 17 years agoThis might be useful. Check out these guys: They have library footage that you can composite into your piece, dig around a bit on the site- it's pretty neat. They also have commercial stuff available (which I've never used). tcby tc - Café LA Re: Pro Tools EDL into FCP - 17 years agoHey, fookai- Are you going to mix in FCP? I'm curious about what work flow you plan to use that where you would want to do that. Just curious. Might help me figure out if I can help. BTW, exporting OMF will get you into an Avid, but not into FCP. If you went that route, I suppose you could export an EDL from the Avid, but it'd be a lot of work. tcby tc - Café LA Re: Need to export to VHS with Sempte Timecode on audio Channel two - old fashioned way - 17 years agoHi- A "last chance-down-and-dirty" option is to have someone burn you an LTC audio track as an .aif (referenced to a good, solid black source) out of an audio workstation sync box, like a Digidesign USD, or a MOTU Timepiece. Some audio decks will spit out LTC to pre-stripe there media- DA78/88/98, for instance. That would work, in a pinch. Make sure it's of the correct length, timby tc - Café LA Re: Music Composer with questions regarding Quicktime Compression - 17 years agoHi- I'm with Vince on the codec. I'd also suggest you break up the film into reels, if they are editing that way, rather than have a continuous file. Makes for easier conforms when things change, as well as being a little less cumbersome. Regarding frame rate: Find out what frame rate and format they are going to mix to on the dub stage, and go with that, if possible. It might not be thby tc - Café LA Re: Timecode Audio Signal - 17 years agoblackbudget: Are you trying to conform existing mixes and picture edits? Are you trying to sync up 2-system dailies from a shoot? Something else entirely? > The protools session consists of several tracks and pieces of audio, with each piece having it's > own timecode. LTC isn't of great value in the digital domain, though there are times... I feel like I'm missing a whole lot of info about what it is you are trying to accomplish. If you're doing sound work in PT, then bounce a reference QT out of FCP and import it into PT. If you've done the sound work, boby tc - Café LA Re: Timecode Audio Signal - 17 years agoHi again- Just occurred to me you could also run the LTC into any audio or video deck designed to read it that you have laying around, and switch to external timecode to see it. DA88 with a sync card comes to mind. tcby tc - Café LA Re: Timecode Audio Signal - 17 years agoHi: How about a Horita timecode reader? Most any synchronization box will do this. The Digidesign boxes would be the SMPTE Slave Driver(SSD), the Universal Slave Driver(USD), or their current version of the same thing called SYNC I/O. There are also Evertz, MOTU, Fostex, old OPCODE boxes... many others. Depends on what you need to do with it once you've got it.
