It was a small thing, and certainly not worth upending the workflow. The Ctrl-` method, which I knew about, seems to be the best available option. In any case, yes, the idea is to keep notes and markers that pertain to the original shots - i.e. noting characteristics of take 1 vs take 2 vs take 3 - but which are not as relevaby Hypersquared - Café LA Keeping Master Clip Markers Out of Sequences - 13 years agoIs there any way to use markers in master clips but not have them show up in sequences edited from those clips? I've figured out how to delete such a marker from the sequence after the fact without effecting the original marker in the clip, but I'd prefer to prevent them from getting across in the first place.by Hypersquared - Café LA Re: Changing Sequences into Master Clips - 13 years agoOh, mama, look at that! That is precisely the solution I needed, plus picked up a few others along the way. Excellent. Thanks to all.by Hypersquared - Café LA Re: Changing Sequences into Master Clips - 13 years agoJoe, if you're correct about Quicktime supporting that many audio channels, I'm intrigued. For now, though, I'm not sure how to make that work. My eight channels get squashed down to two in the Quicktime export. Even using the Export > Using Quicktime Conversion function in FCP, the only audio options it gives me are mono, stereo, and two discrete channels. I'm using Quicktime Pro 7.6.4.by Hypersquared - Café LA Re: Changing Sequences into Master Clips - 13 years agoShane, thanks for the quick reply! Certainly I understood when posing the question that an equivalent result in FCP and Avid would involve slightly different steps. However, it can be helpful to use the functionality of one application to at least describe what you're trying to achieve in another. After all, they're both motion picture editing systems. It isn't as though I was asking FCP to dby Hypersquared - Café LA Changing Sequences into Master Clips - 13 years agoI have a Sequence with eight audio channels that I'd like to have behave as a Master Clip with eight audio channels, so that it will load into the Viewer by default, rather than the Canvas, and will provide me with all eight channels discreetly as source material. The Sequence has matching in and out points across all channels and no internal edits. In short, I'm looking to replicate Avid'by Hypersquared - Café LA Re: When you get to the end, please stop. - 14 years agoAh, sweet mercy. Thank you.by Hypersquared - Café LA When you get to the end, please stop. - 14 years agoThis is obviously not a critical issue, but if there's a secret setting that will fix it, I'd love to hear about it. Is there a setting that will get FCP to STOP playing when it reaches the end of a sequence or clip - as a default - rather than automatically starting back at the beginning? I realize I could put an out-mark at the end of the clip and play in-out, but that'd be more steps thby Hypersquared - Café LA Re: Re-Install of Final Cut Studio 2 aborts - 14 years agoThanks for that. I ran it again, just to see what the log said. (By the way, it actually does begin the install of Audio Content 3 before crapping out). Anyway, here are the last two lines of the installer log (errors only): BomFatalError - cpio read error: bad file format Install failed: Some files for AudioContentforSoundtrackPro5 may not have been written correctly. Then, instead of prompting me for Audio Content 3, it instead prompts me again for the Final Cut Studio disc; then when I've inserted it, it gives me the message: "There was an error with the installation. Thank you.by Hypersquared - Café LA Optimum Configuration for MacPro? - 14 years agoMy G5 PowerPC (from 2004) is having expensive issues, so the most sensible thing may be to start from scratch with a new system. My question is, what are editors finding to be the optimum configuration for the current generation of Mac Pros, striking the best balance between price and performance? It all came down to the RT dropdown on the timeline. Setting it to "Unlimited" rather than "Safe" did the trick, giving me the orange render line, but allowing me to play the clips. I'll explore the how and why some other time. Back to work ...by Hypersquared - Café LA Re: Sequence Settings - Odd Compressor Codec - 16 years agoYeah, they (Dalsa) seem to be slightly thrown for a loop by this as well. I've been in touch with them, and they're doing research on their own end. I've spent the last day doing my own experiments and online research. While I've established without any doubt that FCP does not recognize this rather esoteric codec (at least not right out of the box) I am hearing that the crew was able to do soby Hypersquared - Café LA Re: FCP 6 still can't sort numerically? - 16 years agoThat's so 1988. In any case, my main point had to do with the inconsistency. Somehow it can sort the anomalous Sc 21 folder into place, but not the anomalous Sc 7 folders. I don't see that as an option under Compressor in the Sequence Setting dialog, either. But perhaps I'm misunderstanding your advice. Anyway, I always find that a picture speaks a thousand words. So here's three thousand words: Here's thby Hypersquared - Café LA Sequence Settings - Odd Compressor Codec - 16 years agoI'm editing a short with Quicktime clips (in .mov format) delivered to me by the camera company, which is Dalsa. The movie was shot on their Origin camera. In general, the clip properties are pretty standard: 720 x 480 frame size, 23.98 fps vid rate, NTSC CCIR 601 pixel aspect ratio, yada yada yada. However, the Compressor codec indicated in the clip properties is something called "Appleby Hypersquared - Café LA FCP 6 still can't sort numerically? - 16 years agoI'd have thought by this late date that our baby would have figured this one out. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I doubt it. As the image capture below shows, FCP knows that 11-19 comes after 9, and that 20-22 come after 19, and even successfully sorted the anomalous folder for Scene A21 into the right spot (I gave FCP a cookie for that one). (I let that other project go). However, if there's anything in the config I listed that screams "inadequate for HD!" I guess I could just start there.by Hypersquared - Café LA Ideal hardware config for editing HD? - 16 years agoI'm currently running OS X 10.4.9 on a G5 Dual Proc with about 4GB of RAM in eight 512MB cards. My video card is a Radeon 9600 XT. I'm currently running FCP 4.5 but am about to start over with Studio 2. Several weeks ago, I tried to work with some native HD material (my first attempt at doing so) that someone else had digitized onto a Firewire drive, which I connected to via my FW800 port. Eveby Hypersquared - Café LA Re: Setting Sequence Frame Rate for Video from Camera Phone - 17 years agoWell, yeah, that's what I've been doing. My point is that one of those settings -- the frame rate -- is either not available or is elusive. My original post goes into some detail on this. Any ideas on how I can address this specific problem?by Hypersquared - Café LA Re: Setting Sequence Frame Rate for Video from Camera Phone - 17 years agoVery impressive. And such a quick response! They don't call you the Dude for nothing. Unfortunately, it must be a relatively recent innovation because my version (FCP HD 4.5) does not offer "Make Multiclip Sequence" on a Ctrl-click (or anywhere else that I've looked). So, until such time as I upgrade, I'm think there has to be a way make a Sequence Preset to do what I need. Anyby Hypersquared - Café LA Setting Sequence Frame Rate for Video from Camera Phone - 17 years agoI've been trying to establish a sequence preset for editing video imported from my Treo 650 camera phone. The only preset I can't get to work is the native frame rate of 10 fps. If I try to set it to 10 fps in Sequence Preset Editor>Quicktime Video Setting>Advanced, I get a message saying that the change has been ignored and that I should use the Editing Timebase to set the frame rate, bby Hypersquared - Café LA Re: Quicktime 7 won't run; FCP Studio freezes on start - 17 years agoArgh. Reverting to pre-QT7 would necessitate abandoning the plan to install FCP on this system. However, where to find those old versions? That is the question.by Hypersquared - Café LA Re: Quicktime 7 won't run; FCP Studio freezes on start - 17 years agoAs a reply to this and the posts above, the OS is 10.3.9 (on both systems, I believe, although at the moment I only have access to the one giving the problems). The Quicktime version I've been trying to run is the one currently offered on the Apple site, 7.1.2.by Hypersquared - Café LA Quicktime 7 won't run; FCP Studio freezes on start - 17 years agoI have been able to dig up old posts about these same problems but the solutions offered (Disk Warrior, for instance) have not helped. Hopefully there has been new insight in the meantime. Big picture: Plan was to install FCP Studio on a G5. Older version of Quicktime (6 something) prevented the install, so I upgraded to the current version. Worth noting that ProTools was already on the sby Hypersquared - Café LA |
