Click HERE to register now Putting a PDF into DVDSP - as well as videos - 12 years agoI keep getting stuck on how to get a pdf into DVDSP - I follow all the various intructions I've gleaned from an internet trawl but it isn't playing in simulator or from the .img file through iDVD. The manual is not user friendly in this respect. Am I missing a trick somewhere? Is it to do with the Menu I'm assigning it to? Thanks, Chris Rawlenceby Chris Rawlence - DVD Studio Pro Mixing formats - 13 years agoI am editing using footage from a Sony EX3 and a Sony Z5 - what should my audio-visual settings be to optimise export quality? Is there a conflict here and what do I do to avoid it? Presumably the Export should be through QT Conversion, but what should the settings be here to maintain 16:9 aspect ratio - at present the image is squeezed - 16:9 including black letter box? Thanksby Chris Rawlence - Café LA Importing Sony ex3 files - 13 years agoI have downloaded 23gb of video files from a Sony ex3 camera via the card reader. I now need to know how to import them to FCP7. The files shows up as BPAV containing a range of other files including CLPR, CUEVP.XML mediapro.xml and tkkr each of which contain other files. Any hints on how to proceed? Is this through Log and Transfer? Chris Rawlenceby Chris Rawlence - Café LA export settings for pc dvd replication - 13 years agoThe DVD company replicating DVDs from a movie I have cut in FCP asked for an AVI of it. They are using PCs. I duly sent them an AVI which they claim is losing sync progressively. The movie is 1080i cut on FCP7. What are the best export settings for this? Thanks, Chris Rby Chris Rawlence - Café LA Re: log settings - 13 years agoThanks Derek, I'll fiddle around with various settings until I hit the best result. I notice interlacing on the 50i setting in FCP but maybe this was the wrong codec on transfer. The 25P eliminates this - as it would - though not as crisp - because presumably half the lines. You don't seem to like the 24P on your HFS-10 - why not? What did you mean by problems with motion on your HFS10? Judby Chris Rawlence - Café LA log settings - 13 years agoI finally decided on a Canon HFS-21 as a back up/second camera to the Sony Z1 that's been doing me well for the past 4 years. I usually capture HDV footage from the Z1 on the HDV1080i codec. What codec for the HFS-21 setting would best match this Z1 setting? And which resolution setting on the Canon would best match the Z1? 1440x1080 - 12Mbps? - which they call XP+ - and what about frame rateby Chris Rawlence - Café LA Re: workflow with panasonic hdc-tm700 - 13 years agoThanks Shane, Which setting in FCP 7 would that be for 1080i60? (Presumably 1080i50 since I'm in UK) Is it a straightforward import? Lastly, does anyone have any recommendations for a camera in the Panasonic hdc-tm700 range for which FCP workflow would be simpler? Chris Rby Chris Rawlence - Café LA workflow with panasonic hdc-tm700 - 13 years agoI've read conflicting opinions about importing to FCP 7 from this camera - panasonic hdc-tm700. Any advice? Which settings? Thanks Chris Rby Chris Rawlence - Café LA mpeg4s - 13 years agoEmbarrassingly simple question. Just cut some short movies on FCP for someone to embed on their website. Their technical people need the cuts. What's the best format to send them in? Would this be burnable via iDVD? Thanks....by Chris Rawlence - Café LA canon hf s21 import - 13 years agoWhat's the best and/or cheapest way to import footage from the Canon Legria hf s21 camera? Haven't imported via a flash card before. Can it be done directly from the camera? What cable would I need. Import is to 24" iMac with USB2 FW400/800. Thanks, Chris Rby Chris Rawlence - Café LA Deinterlacing - 14 years agoEver since Snow Leopard I've not been able to de-interlace Quicktime Pro-wise as I could with Leopard. What are the settings for de-interlacing HDV directly from FCP7. Or any other ideas? This is to drop onto iDVD in a movie where deaf people are signing fast. Thanks, CRby Chris Rawlence - Café LA De-interlacing from FCP for Youtube - 14 years agoExporting an FCP cut as an MP4 for Youtube doesn't seem tol allow me the de-interlace option within FCP, unlike the box I get in FCP for a Quicktime Movie. With Snow Leopard the newish QT10 doesn't seem to offer me the Quicktime Pro option I once had to de-interlace MP4s from here either. Am I doing something wrong? How do I de-interlace? Should I? Running FCP7 on Snow Leopard. Sometimes eby Chris Rawlence - Café LA Re: Importing HDV from Sony Z1e - 14 years agoFrom this Apple Discussions thread - - it looks as if there may be incompatibility between FCP 5.1.4 and Snow Leopard. Would an upgrade to FCP 7/FCS 3 solve this? Or should I take their advice and revert to plain old Leopard? Or might the latest Snow Leopard patch be the solution? Chris Rby Chris Rawlence - Café LA Re: Importing HDV from Sony Z1e - 14 years agoSorry - but what us ProRes422 SQ and where do I find it as an option? Still having the same problem as originally described, in spite of following all advice and double checking. Any ideas? It's been fine before. Could this be Snow Leopard? CRby Chris Rawlence - Café LA Importing HDV from Sony Z1e - 14 years agoHi, I'm running Snow Leopard and trying to import HDV into FCP 5.1.4 from a Sony Z1e. I have checked that all the settings are correct - on the camera and in FCP - but FCP questions my settings and consequently won't import. It works fine down-converting same footage to DV and adjusting FCP settings accordingly - but I need the HDV. I've imported HDV successfully in the past but can't recallby Chris Rawlence - Café LA Re: exporting qt file readable by pc qt - 14 years agoThanks for all this. On the 32Gb Flash Card - which I have - the problem I encountered was that it wouldn't take files larger than 4Gb - my largest is 4.13. Is there a newer version that does take this size? What setting would you recommend through QT Conversion? The file on the PC will be for burning to a DVD. Any recommendations on the best USB Memory sticks? I'm using What I discovered withby Chris Rawlence - Café LA exporting qt file readable by pc qt - 14 years agoI want to burn a QT file of a movie edited on fcp 5.4 to a DVD so that the QT file can then be played through the QT player on a PC. At present the PC QT player is saying that it doesn't recognise the file. How should I export the movie from FCP to remedy this? Through QT Conversion? Settings please. Or any other method, except tape, of exporting an FCP movie so that it can be used to burn DVby Chris Rawlence - Café LA Re: QT Export - 14 years agoI am working in FCP 5.04 - DV PAL anamorphic. When I export to quick time movie and add a .mov suffix PC says QT player won't read it. Do I need to export Quicktime Conversion and if so what settings for max quality? CRby Chris Rawlence - Café LA QT Export - 14 years agoSimple question. I need to export a movie so that it can be burnt to a DVD on a PC. Which settings do I use? Currently getting an FCP Movie which is obviously no good. Thanks, Chris Rby Chris Rawlence - Café LA Re: losing sync with qt conversion - 14 years agoI meant 1280x720. I need this for two purposes - so presumably two different compressions. 1) For HD on Vimeo. 2) For projection - but maybe this requires precise projector specs?by Chris Rawlence - Café LA Re: losing sync with qt conversion - 14 years agoI'm trying to export for use on Vimeo HD. Their suggested settings don't seem to work. I'm working in HDV Pal so the frame rate is 25fps - isn't it. CRby Chris Rawlence - Café LA Export HDV for Vimeo - 14 years agoDoes anyone have any tips for export settings to get an HDV in the right form to upload to Vimeo retaining as much quality as possible? Thanks CRby Chris Rawlence - Café LA imac crashing with fcp5 - 14 years agoI'm not sure yet whether this is a software or hardware problem. It started with streaky artifacts in the player windows of FCP and is now leading to frequent crashes. This only seems to happen when I'm playing video - in FCP but not QT or DVD player. A year ago I had the logic board replaced in this four month old imac 24" (2.8 Ghz 2gb mem). But yesterday I sent her an FCP file but it will only open for her as gobbledy-gook text. Tried several times from different e-mail addresses but still the same.
