Click HERE to register now Re: SheerVideo - Progress? - 17 years agoFor those who haven't heard yet, in February we released SheerVideo for Mac Intel and SheerVideo for Mac Universal Binary. The Intel code isn't vectorized yet for MMX+SSE as the G4 and G5 edition is for AltiVec, so it isn't as fast as it will be, but the upgrade to the vectorized version will be free, and in the meantime the functionality is all there and working. However, for a DVCAM shooter, 8-bit uncompressed typically means a Y'CbCr 8bv 4:2:2 pixel format, because 4:1:1 and 4:2:0 are planar formats, in which the entire luma (Y') image is stored separately from the chroma (Cb,Cr) channels, making them awkard to use for capture, editing, or playback. This had nothing to do with which particular codecs (H.264, MPEG-4) you were using, just with how many were installed. SheerVideo, for example, currently includes 8 encoders+decoders and 5 transcoders, so it's easy to exceed the limit of 64. This bugby BitJazz - Café LA Re: Sheer Video "BitJazz" Codec - 17 years agoFor others who might run into the same issue, the problem was that SheerVideo was not showing up in Final Cut Pro. This and more serious misbehavior, including Final Cut Pro and other applications crashing on launch, was due to limitations in Final Cut Pro 5.1.2 and QuickTime 7.1.2 restricting the number of codecs to 64, whereas SheerVideo itself currently contains 8 encoders, 8 decoders, and 5 tby BitJazz - Café LA Re: Sheer Video "BitJazz" Codec - 17 years agoChuck, Yes, you can capture straight to SheerVideo. In fact, the SheerVideo Installation package comes with a slew of Easy Setups for Final Cut Pro containing Presets for capturing with AJA and Blackmagic Design cards. Look in the "Extras:for Final Cut Pro" folder. - Andreasby BitJazz - Café LA Re: Sheer Video "BitJazz" Codec - 17 years agoChuck, Ending war and hunger are definitely worthier causes than real-time lossless video compression, but that's our focus. If BitJazz stumbles upon a way to use our products to end war and hunger, I promise we'll put it in the public domain. Until then, we will continue to make modest contributions to other organizations working for those causes. Please don't take our word for any of ouby BitJazz - Café LA Re: Sheer Frustration - 17 years agoJoey, Although the company BitJazz Inc. has been around since 1997, our real-time SheerVideo codec has only been available since 2003. Our earlier lossles codec, PhotoJazz, is not real-time. I expect people will soon start hearing about SheerVideo over the background marketing din. In today's commercial society, it's unfortunately no longer true that "if you build a better mousetrap, peoby BitJazz - Café LA Re: SheerVideo Frustration - 17 years agoRobert, Which Sheer codec are you using? The generic Sheer codec has too many different inputs and outputs for Final Cut Pro to understand, so you have to use one of the specific Sheer codecs with FCP. It sounds like you probably want to use Sheer Y'CbCr 10bv 4:2:2[:4]. Are you using one of the SheerVideo Easy Setups in the "Extras: for Final Cut Pro" folder in the SheerVideo instalby BitJazz - Café LA |
