Title & Action Safe are areas of the screen that should in theory show up on all televisions.by thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: DV to BetaSP: export 8-bit QT or Print to DV tape? - 17 years agoI would drop the video into an 8-bit sequence and THEN add your graphics. The graphics will look much better having not gone to the DV codec. Then you can output your 8-bit QT and have the dubs made from that.by thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: OT: TV show template??? - 17 years agoHey Shane...make that two shows you know about...by thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: Plugin Combination - 17 years agoRiver Rocok Studios has a nice little $50 bundle of some stylish looks. I really like Russian Kamera and Cinemagix.by thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: fast online reel options? - 17 years agodot mac & iweb work pretty well. Just export your reel in the ipod format and create a podcast page in iweb. upload to .mac.by thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: Workflow with FCPRO on a self funded doc - 17 years agoWait, what? What? Almost all TV stations switched from Beta to DVCAM? Somehow I missed that. All my deliverables are still required in BetacamSP.by thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: How to Choose a DVCam deck? - 17 years agoBut if you have a Panasonic deck, you can play any of the Sony format tapes, so it's worth the extra cost up front to only have one deck that will play MiniDV, DVCAM, DVCPro, and DVCPro50. Pick up an AJ-SD93 and you can capture all the above listed formats via firewire or SDI, and within a job or two you've already made back the difference. I'd rather have the ability to capture a wider varby thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: may i reiterate WHY i HATE laCie... - 17 years agoWhat kind of machine are you working on? Are you dead set on firewire? I, for one, have recently abandoned all my firewire drives (except for one OWC FW800 RAID enclosure with a pair of old 250 drives in it) for a 4-channel SATA PCI card, a 4 bay SATA enclosure, and 4 500GB drives. It's faster than firewire, expandable, interchangeable, and more stable, plus it doesn't take up bandwidth on yby thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: Can I run both 5.0.4 and 5.1.1 on the new ProMac G5? - 17 years ago5.0.4 will run horribly slow (if at all) because it is not a Universal version. It's written for the G5 chips, not the Intels (which your new Mac has). If you want to run 5.0.4, keep your G5 around and get another license.by thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: Third Party Ram Wrecking Havoc? - 17 years agoJust pull it long enough to test it. FCP will run (not quickly) on 512mb. You won't want to work with it at that speed, but you'll at least be able to see if that is the cause of your crashes. If it is, you return the RAM in exchange for qualified RAM.by thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: Kinda OT: To Copyright Protect or Not To Copyright Protect - 17 years agoAfter reading the previous posts, they're right. It is work for hire and you shouldn't have any right to copy protect the material. Although you could, as many photographers & videographers do, write a clause in your contract stating that the client does not have the right to reproduce it without your consent. But then you have to get the client to sign off on that. Wedding photographerby thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: Third Party Ram Wrecking Havoc? - 17 years agoIt can very well be caused by 3rd party RAM. I had a strip in my Powerbook that was causing software to unexpectedly quit and giving me kernal panics. My wife's company bought a brand new Quad and had the reseller max out the RAM. They couldn't get it to stay on for more than 20 minutes. Had the logic board replaced a couple times, many different things, finally tracked down to the bad RAM.by thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: Kinda OT: To Copyright Protect or Not To Copyright Protect - 17 years agoI would think that, as the producer of the video content, you have the right to copy protect it. She can copyright the script, you can copy protect at least the DVD authoring portion of it. Problem is, how are you going to add any copy protection without replicating it? I generally try to price myself so I don't need the extra duplication income. If someone wants me to burn a bunch of copby thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: Upgrade to Tiger - 17 years agoI did the Erase & Install and have had no issues at all. Definitely the way to go. Get a clean hard drive and clean installations of everything. The 5.1 crossgrade isn't necessary, but it is the only way you can get future updates. There are no more bug fixes being done for 5.0.x. Only 5.1.x. 5.1.2 is supposed to be adding many nice updates, like complete XDCAM support, support for thby thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: may i reiterate WHY i HATE laCie... - 17 years agoI have little clips of us all over the place backing over gear that has broken in the studio (audio recording studio, back in my musician days). If it won't flatten and you're on gravel, you can get a really good feeling by backing your rear tire on top of it (in a rear wheel drive vehicle), stopping, and then gunning it, sending the drive shooting about 40 feet through the air. PS: I'm inby thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: FCP 4.5 & SONY HVR-A1P - 17 years agoFCP 4.5 does not work with HDV. You can downconvert in the camera and capture at DV resolution.by thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: crop 4:3 to 16:9 - 17 years agoIn a 16x9 frame, there are no uneven uppers and lowers. You're blowing the 4x3 (12x9) up so the sides are filled (16x12). The uneven uppers and lowers are cut out of the frame, as the sides are in a pan and scan (which is the exact opposite process of what's being discussed here).by thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: Another deck recognition issue...control, but no picture - 17 years agoThey haven't actually received the loaner yet. Unfortunately, in the world of Des Moines Iowa, a loaner has to come down from Minneapolis. Should know today.by thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: Another deck recognition issue...control, but no picture - 17 years agoI'll let you know when they find out. They sent the deck off today and got a loaner to get back on the job. I have a feeling what happened is a burned out FW board in the deck.by thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: DVCPRO tapes - 17 years agoHard drives are cheap. Probably cheaper than buying 42 more DVCam tapes to convert to. Capture your DVCAM tapes. Rent a Panasonic AJ-SD93 to capture the DVCPro and DVCPro50 tapes. You'll save time, and probably money over buying tapes to dub to.by thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: crop 4:3 to 16:9 - 17 years agoWhat codec will you be editing in? I would suggest getting the film transferred into DVCProHD, then working in a DVCProHD 16x9 timeline. After you've made your edits, after color correction & before titles, use the motion tab to blow all clips up to fill the frame on the right & left. Now, clip by clip, you can go through and slide the clip up and down in the frame to frame itby thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: Help with Mixed Media Types - 17 years agoI'd work entirely in the DV codec, using the following conversion methods (to avoid rendering in the timeline). > DVD MPEG-2 NTSC Use MPEG Streamclip to transfer to DV NTSC > DVD MPEG-2 PAL Use MPEG Streamclip to transfer to DV PAL, then use the process in this Macworld article to convert that to DV NTSC > HDV (Sony's version, which I believe is usually > 1080i)by thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: I NEED AUDIO HELP!! - 17 years agofilmman Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > When you have multiple channels of audio, like 8 > or 10 channels, and you're happy with the mix as > played out on the speakers from FCP timeline -- do > you need to mix the tracks and end up with a > double track stereo before you export for DVD SP ? It's a limitation of firewire, not FCP. To print 4 or more channels simultaneously, you need to add an AJA box or some other sort of capture card to your system. To do it via firewire, you have to do it in two passes, as Koz mentioned. But, come to think of it, you can't insert edit via firewire, can you? ALL DVD players will add the letterboxing --- if the owner has it set up correctly. I don't generally adjust my workflow for the few who don't figure it out. All DVDs they play will not be letterboxed, so whby thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: Another deck recognition issue...control, but no picture - 17 years agoRight. I guessed that in my initial post. I was simply trying to get past the prefs and reboot suggestions by clarifying we had tried all that. Thursday when I was at their building, the deck was seen by System Profiler. Today I had them check again and it is not. I'm chalking this one up to a burned out firewire board in the deck (already tried a different cable). Thanks!by thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: Another deck recognition issue...control, but no picture - 17 years agoOne more note...iMovie does not see the deck either, so it doesn't look like the QuickTime install problem (plus there was no recent upgrade of QuickTime).by thrillcat editorial - Café LA Re: Another deck recognition issue...control, but no picture - 17 years agoThanks for the reply. I guess I glossed over some things, but I have tried all the steps in that doc.by thrillcat editorial - Café LA Another deck recognition issue...control, but no picture - 17 years agoHey...here's another one. My wife's company has a Panasonic AJ-SD93 DVCPro50 deck. They have it on a cart with the DigiBeta and it moves from edit suite to edit suite. The SD93 is connected via firewire. 4 FCP bays, all running 5.1.1. 3 Quads & a Dual 2.5. All maxed out on RAM. Last Thursday, all of a sudden none of the bays would see the deck. All bays can CONTROL the deck, butby thrillcat editorial - Café LA |
