I started going through the steps and got stopped cold when I discovered that the QMaster pane in System Preferences shows up completely empty. No controls in it at all. Has anyone else seen this, and if so, how do I fix it? Thanks so much. Reidby ReidCAULFIELD - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Finding clips without filters in the timeline - 14 years agoIs there a way in the latest version of FCP to determine which (if any) clips in a timeline do or do not have filters (including color correction) attached to them? For several of the days, I was on all 3 projects on the same day. I had an HVX200 with me. I shot 60i for one project, 30P for another and 24pN for the third. Different final objectives dictated different rates. I love the look of 24p, but unlike Shane I find that I do covet hyper-realism as well. Some of it's good, too, though usually it's pretty generic.by ReidCAULFIELD - Café LA Re: OT: Who's using Blu-ray for archiving? - 14 years agoMany years ago (mid '90's) I was involved in high end audio restoration for a company in Burbank. The issue for us was that, with 2 audio-only restoration rooms going 16-24 hours a day, and through-putting dozens of feature length projects every month, local single mechanism tape based solutions, one attached to each system, weren't cutting it. Added to this was the reality that the most effectiby ReidCAULFIELD - Café LA Re: distorted topped-out audio crunches - 14 years agoHey Steve! Great to hear from you after all these years. My restoration rig is an AudioCube (German software) and the module is DeClipper. Works miracles but again doesn't do anything for the intermod. There are other packages, as noted, that get close but I haven't found anything that does as well as DeClipper. The basic routine within the module is 2 steps: Lower the level of the clip to x dB bby ReidCAULFIELD - Café LA Re: distorted topped-out audio crunches - 14 years agoclipped waveforms can indeed be rebuilt under many circumstances. Several software packages can do it, of which I own one such. What won't get fixed is the intermodulation distortion that goes along with it. Back then - 2003-2005 or so - one of Vegas' claims to fame was the ability to open up multiple instances of the app so that one could work on multiple projects at the same time, and I used to do it. Also, we know that we're going to have to deliver 1080i60. So I have footage that's been gathered over the last year & a half, most not by me. - some 30p, some 60i, might even be some 24p in there. All of the material I've been outputting for this project was destined for web & DVD, so it all worked out. 2 weeks ago got word that I need to pull together a new :30 piece from all this material for broadcast for a broadcaster whoseby ReidCAULFIELD - Café LA Re: Installing FCP from Disc Images - 14 years agoMy mistake. All DMG files must be mounted on the desktop. Good to know re verifying.by ReidCAULFIELD - Café LA Re: Installing FCP from Disc Images - 14 years agoThanks so much Ben (and all) for the input. I can confirm that with FCP v7, one can NOT open the DMG files as the discs are requested, by the installer, all DMG files must be unzipped & sitting on the desktop. It was a long lunch for me with the laptop, uncompressing the files (before the install) took the longest. Thanks again! Reidby ReidCAULFIELD - Café LA Installing FCP from Disc Images - 14 years agoHi All. I'm taking the advice I've read from many here & elsewhere to create disc images of the FCP (v7_ discs & install from those. However, when I do this and put the images all in the same folder, then initiate the "Final Cut Studio Install" image, when it's done, it asks for the next physical disc ("Audio Content 1". Saving time on the install isn't so much the point. It's keeping this critical laptop up & running as long as possible and not taking it completely dow. For better or worse, it's really my primary system at the moment. Has this changed at all. I have a ground-up reinstall I need to do starting this weekend and I'm not sure whether I should reinstall Leopard or upgrade to Snow Leopard. Any thoughts?by ReidCAULFIELD - Café LA Multicam Scale & Rotation don'[t hold - 14 years agoI'm on the latest version of FCP 6.x (about to move to FCP 7) and I've just come across something that I've never had to do before. I have 2 camera angles that I'm multicam'ing, and the shots need to be tidied up a bit, i.e. minimal scaling (zoom to 104%) and rotation (to about 1.25) on both angles. In the viewer, which displays both angles, I can click on one angle, set it's parameters in the Moby ReidCAULFIELD - Café LA Re: Editor credits - 14 years agoBack in the mid 1980's when I was in Canada starting my career as a sound editor & re-recording mixer, I worked under a NABET contract at a large broadcaster/cable operator/post facility. I've been waiting until I'm clear of projects, and that time is this week. I have several choices and I'm looking for the sage wisdom of others on this board. Right now I'm running FCP 6.0.6 on MacOS 10.5.8 (Leopard). The MBP is a late 2007 2.4GHz Core2Duo. IF FCP can't create a new Sequence at all, then it makes sense the process would abort. WIll take this opportunity to install FCP 7 this week. Thanks again Derek.by ReidCAULFIELD - Café LA Re: Can't create sequence - 14 years agoAll of this came about because when I try to export from FCP to an STP Multitrack project for detailed audio work, I keep getting the message "Error sending selection to Soundtrack Pro."
