This new version is GPU accelerated! For those that haven't looked at it, the ARRIRAW Toolkit is a QuickTime component that plays back your ARRIRAW sequences. When installed, most QuickTime compatible packages can load, play and transcode ARRIRAW footage, as if it were a movie. But without rendering, wrapping, or any othby robertmonaghan - News and Announcements Glue Tools: CineonDPX v4.0 released - 11 years agoHi Everyone! Its been a long time. (First, hats off to Szymon at MotionVFX.. Very informative read!) I released the updated package a few days ago. Here are the highlights: Cineon/DPX Toolkit v4.0 has been re-written to take advantage of the latest high performance technologies available. For example, on the most recent Macbook Pro (Retina) laptop, it is possible to do 2K DPX playbackby robertmonaghan - Café LA Glue Tools: Phantom Cine Toolkit and ARRIRAW Toolkit upgraded with New High Quality Debayer Mode - 15 years ago(July 29, 2009, Santa Barbara) - Glue Tools releases Phantom Cine Toolkit v2.0.10 and ARRIRAW Toolkit 1.0.3. Included in these releases are a number of small fixes (including a correction to the "White Point from Camera" for Phantom Cine) and a new Debayer Algorithm for both products. Below you will see the new Debayer (GT Hybrid A) and previous best quality version (Pixel Grouping).by robertmonaghan - News and Announcements Re: Canon EOS Rebel T1i EF-S and FCP - 15 years agoHi Alexander, I have the T1i. Here are a couple of notes: - There is no Time Code - 720p is at 30fps, and 1080 is at 20 fps (yes, that isn't a typo) - The movie is compressed as h264. So it is recommended that you convert to ProRes. (There are a number of really good reasons to do this. - battery life on some laptops drops with h264, and the FCS apps don't really work well with h264.) However, this might open a nasty can o'worms. I can't be certain that all Apps that read DPX images even pay attention to the aspect ratio fields in the file. (From what I've seen, they don't.) Its probably a worthwhile experiment, though. bob.by robertmonaghan - Café LA Re: 16 bit codec - 17 years agoMy Cineon/DPX codecs read and write 16bit RGB color spaces into a 10bit format right now. These are a Film/HD file format, not just a codec. You also have advantages of loading these frames into any DI, 3D or Effects packages as well. (Not to mention film recorders.) AJA supports 10bit RGB. They encode 10bit Linear or 10bit Log into a MOV file. It is also pretty efficient, space wise, and isn'by robertmonaghan - Café LA Re: Is an Apple Cinema Display good for FCP Color correction and viewing? - 17 years agoHi! There are several different solutions out there for colour. Its been the hole-y grail for many years at visual effects studios. (hole-y because it has been a money pit, too.) Here is a solution that I've used very successfully. (We did vfx for different shades of "white" on Eight-Below with this setup. -- uugh hated that movie. ) - Sony GDM-FW900 ($350 or so on eBay.) -by robertmonaghan - Café LA Re: how can i make the clip names appear on an export - 17 years agoDid you mean "burned in" into the image? A script or tool could be created to do just a thing, using opensource software out there. Maybe something involving livetype, too. If you mean adding in a timecode track, that's should already happen with most quicktime movie formats. bob.by robertmonaghan - Café LA Re: EDLs and the DI process - 17 years agoIf I had to guess, its probably the set of plates that contains the greenscreen elements. Generally this is the FG plate. The BG plate is typically static, and can often be just a single still image. So, If you had an object or actor moving around and "acting" over a greenscreen, it is probably the plate sequence you want to use for timecode. In a nutshell, the plates with the mainby robertmonaghan - Café LA Re: EDLs and the DI process - 17 years agoActually, I am willing to bet, that the timecode is stripped from the header, when the DPX is generated from the effects package. Its a common problem I've experienced. Shake, Combustion, and others discard that information, when exporting DPX sequences. bob..by robertmonaghan - Café LA Re: EDLs and the DI process - 17 years agoThe DPX files can have timecode and keycodes embedded inside them. If your vfx artists have a way re-introduce the timecode back into the DPX files, the DI house can then use that info to identify "which shots go where". While it does rely on the artists actually doing that step accurately, and properly, it can help you sync you new frames with the DI edit. I've created a DPX Quicby robertmonaghan - Café LA Re: Uncompressed Graphics on DV timeline ? - 17 years agoHi Austin, A possibility that comes to mind, is to create compressed quicktime movies which the same timecode/reel names as your source material. You can edit using the compressed footage, and then have an EDL that matches your source material. I've written a tool a while back, to do the compression, preserving the timecode, But I'd have to recreate it, I think. I don't know if I have the sby robertmonaghan - Café LA Re: audio track to timecode (TC) function - 17 years agoHi! I want to know who uses DPX images with embedded audio? I am now starting to look into supporting embedded audio data, inside the DPX file. The idea is that this data would be loaded as a 5.1 audio track into FCP, or other QT tools. Right now, I want to get a feel for what people are using. Typical users would be people getting DPX frames from Digital Storage devices that connecby robertmonaghan - Café LA Re: timecode discrepancy - 17 years agoWhat is the target framerate? 24fps or 29.97? It is possible with some tools to save your movie out as 24fps (or even 23.97) and have a 25 or 29.97 FPS timecode track added. bob.by robertmonaghan - Café LA Cineon/DPX PRO v2.0.4 QuickTime Components released. - 17 years ago(Santa Barbara, CA -- November 18, 2006) GLUE TOOLS announces version 2.0.4 of its Cineon/DPX PRO QuickTime Components for MacOSX. My QT Components export DPX frames, and you can embed any frame rate you want. They can then be loaded, and have a 29.97 TC track attached (regardless of the framerate of the movie). The best part is the frames are lossless. Let me check this out. bob.. The up-side, is that you can control who can see the movies, by only giving the people that need to see your movie, your custom quicktime component or QuickTime player. The down side, is that you have to give them a custom component or player. I've seen a lot of discussion on this.
