AE is great, but the aliasing on the text, and smoothness of gradations still are no match for high end motion graphics suites. Perfect example. The ramp filter in AE is the worst. I can spot a commercial produced in AE when it has the ramp filter and the blocky, horrible looking gradations. -Rickby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: ken burns...more of that - 14 years agoI recently had to do several animations for the CTIA convention going on this week. They were pretty much "fancy slide shows". I used some basic expressions in after effects like scale over time, and toss, and fade in/fade out. It wasn't as precise as key-framing each shot, but it saved tons of time. Here's a good place to start with expressions...by Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: QC for a website I'm getting ready to launch - 15 years agoJoe, Thanks for taking a look. I made some tweaks to help enhance the jittery playback for slower processors. Specifically, what work do you think is from other agencies? Fusion (formerly Telenium) is a brand experience company, and we work with our client's advertising agencies to create new media to be used in meetings, events, and trade shows. I've checked the site on a bunch of computers here in our offices, but I've noticed on my older iBook at home it is pretty sluggish. And from a forensic perspective, it will build the scene in 3D, so you could recreate it from different angles.by Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: OT: new HDTV is driving me crazy - 15 years agoSorry to get the post back on track - but I returned the LCD for a plasma. Best decision I ever made. I just wanted to help other post production professionals to not make the same mistake I did. Unless you like your films to look like video.by Rick Sebeck - Café LA OT: new HDTV is driving me crazy - 15 years agoSo my Samsung 720p Plasma screen that I had for 3 years crapped out on me. After a month of watching TV on a 13 inch CRT monitor, I finally convinced my wife to buy a new TV. I did my research, sat and looked at tons of TVs at all the electronic stores, and finally settled on a Sony LCD with the 120Hz. Got home hooked it up, and have spent the last couple days wincing. It seems that the &by Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: Writing Video Process when Outputting - 15 years agoDo you have disabled clips in your timeline? FCP ignores them when rendering - but when outputting to tape they cause it to have to "build video". -Rickby Rick Sebeck - Café LA FONT SELECTION issue - 16 years agoI think I've had this problem before, but I don't remember how I solved it - wondering if anyone else has! In a normal two monitor & NTSC setup (using black magic card for output) when I try to change the font on the text control tab, mu list doesn't show up. When I disable the blackmagic as my output video (and I have desktop enabled) the text shows up on the NTSC display. Seven years ago we paid $3000 for a used one! Know I am certain you should just buy one - it will be cheaper than taking your files to another company! -Rickby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: OT- DLT- How to - 16 years agoI used to work for a DVD-Authoring company that would provide DLT mastering - but they have gone out of business. You could probably find a smaller company to help you out, since most big authoring houses don't use DVDSP but Sonic or Sony authoring systems. Honestly, when I set up the DVD company mentioned above, we found an older DLT drive on Ebay. All you need is the drive and a SCSI conneby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: assistant editor jobs? - 16 years agoTry RealityStaff.com - I always see jobs for AE's on there.by Rick Sebeck - Jobs Re: smoothing out in-camera auto-iris shift - 16 years agoUse the Foundry's Furnace Plug-ins for Shake. They have a flicker filter that works awesome. it's EXTREMELY pricey (although they do have a 30 day free trial or you can rent it by the day) but it is worth every penny! We had some film that was x-ray flashed and using a combination of Furnace filters we got rid of it.by Rick Sebeck - Café LA Need camera opperator (equipment optional) - 16 years agoI am helping a friend out who is running a seminar August 3rd-5th in Orange County. They asked if I could help document it on video so they could get it to those who can't attend. It would be a simple two camera job, one on sticks one roaming the room getting coverage. Click CONTROL-B to re-enable it.by Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: do agents exist for film editors? - 17 years agoOkay gents, I have a question that goes along with this idea of "how do you get work" - "do you need an agent". I've NEVER seen a post for narrative television or studio feature films (two categories I have yet to get into in my career) on any job board. I am currently cutting network reality TV, international commercials, and independent feature films - but other thaby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: more on digi beta preset - 17 years agoSounds like a bad FW port. Try plugging another FW device into the port that you are using for the i/O. -Rickby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Re: BROADCAST SAFE FILTER QUESTION - 17 years agoWe color correct to "taste" first - so it looks good. Then nest the entire sequence and apply the broadcast safe filter to the nest before exporting. -Rickby Rick Sebeck - Café LA Force FCP to keep playing in the background. - 17 years agoHas anyone found a way to make FCP continue to play in the background? Like when you switch to another application? Our just recently went out of commission, and we want to replace it. Just priced out an XL2, and for our use, we just need a good 3 chip to have for pick-up shots. We already have a VX2000 and a DVX100a - so we definitely want an XL1 (preferably s) Anyone got one they want dumps, so they can upgrade toby Rick Sebeck - lafcpug Market Normalize, cliks and pops - 18 years agoI am mixing a CD - I know... it really has become the age of "the editor does everything!" - and it's not like I am mixing the Rolling Stones latest albulm. I recorded some dialog in a sound booth, that I am pretty happy about. Music plays behind the volcals, and all I really want to do is sweeten it up a tad. I've noticed that Soundtracks analysis tolls help, and a normalize helps.by Rick Sebeck - Soundtrack Pro Menus are aliasing in 4.1 - 17 years agoIf I take the same DVSP project, with the same .tiff file and format the the disc, the one created with DVDSP 4.0 looks sharp and clear. The one with DVDSP 4.1 looks aliased. Any Ideas? I've tried the "singe field" checkbox, I've tried switching the "Final Rendering" preferences from "hardware based" to "software based" and I can't seem to get a sharp imby Rick Sebeck - DVD Studio Pro Fulltime FCP Editor Needed - Beverly Hills, CA - 18 years agoLeading Direct Response Marketing/ Fitness Video Company looking for a fulltime FCP editor to cut fitness videos, infomercials, TV spots, in-house promotion videos, customer success stories, as well as assist in the day-to-day operations of a small post-production department. What ended up keeping the drive "stable" was sticking a large window fan in front of the drive. I guess the drive was just overheating. I'm happy all my files are backed up, but what should I do with the drive? I've probably worked with 50 different drives of all flavors and sizes, and I've seen about 3 go down for good.
