I was able to calibrate brightness and contrast based on the pluge bars, but I have no idea if my color and tint are good b/c I have no blue only setting. I placed both settings in the middle (default), which produces what seems to be an accurate color saturation, but I want to bby Outdated Mac user - Color Re: Explode video transition - 15 years agoThanks for the explanation. I didn't really understand this, and it is important to know. There were no effects before the transition. It was just the Explode effect stretched out to cover the outgoing clip and part of the incoming clip. Beside messing with opacity, changing the speed of the transition effect also helped to 'cover' the changes to chroma/luma.by Outdated Mac user - Café LA Re: Dropped frame error message whilst editing. What to do? - 15 years agoWhat about daisy chaining using a USB 2.0 connection? I would like to hook up both a Cal Digit 1 TB external storage and a LaCie 500GB external storage to my computer using USB 2.0 for the Cal Digit unit and Firewire 400 for the LaCie (I have a G4 with no Firewire 800 inputs, only 2 400 inputs and 2 USB inputs). Will daisy chaining be a problem in this case?by Outdated Mac user - Café LA Re: Explode video transition - 15 years agoWell, I tried all 3 suggestions. I tweaked opacity keyframes and it worked with 1 clip. But that didn't work on the others, so I tried changing the sequence on the clip from Superwhite to White. That worked well, although there is the same shift in luma & color, but it is localized to just the talent's face instead of the entire image (the face reverts to its original reddish color). I have uby Outdated Mac user - Café LA Explode video transition - 15 years agoI would like to use the video transition called Explode (I use FCP 3, not sure if this is in later versions). However, I noticed that Explode increases the luminance of both the outgoing and incoming clips so that when the transition is done, the color of the incoming clip 'snaps back' to its original luminance level. In other words, you can see a shift in the brightness level of the clip as soonby Outdated Mac user - Café LA Re: 'Light flash' transition - 15 years agoThanks, guys. I was getting tired of FCP's cheesy slides.by Outdated Mac user - Café LA 'Light flash' transition - 15 years agoDoes anyone know how I can create a 'light flash' transition in FCP 3.0 to cover up jump cuts? Or is there a plug-in I can buy that will enable me to do this?by Outdated Mac user - Café LA Re: DVD duplicator - 15 years agoYeah, I wasn't sure about the Light Scribe b/c you gotta buy special DVDs and the pix weren't great in the promo material. I'm gonna look into Aleratec, others have also recommended. Thanx.by Outdated Mac user - Café LA Re: DVD duplicator - 15 years agoHi, Wayne: Do you know if the Disk Maker Reflex 1 is worthwhile? It is a 1:1 duplicator which etches onto the DVD using something called LiteScribe. This requires special DVDs and a USB 2.0 connect for Mac hookup. What I like about this - apart from the really low price - is that you can etch the DVD for only $100 more.by Outdated Mac user - Café LA Re: DVD duplicator - 15 years agoI should have clarified: I am looking for a standalone DVD duplicator. I will look into all the options you have recommended. What I really want is a Primera, which duplicates and prints full color onto DVDs, but that runs close to $1,500.by Outdated Mac user - Café LA DVD duplicator - 15 years agoMy Mac's DVD burner is on its last legs. I am looking for recommendations on an inexpensive DVD duplicator that can help me make copies from the few masters I can still churn out on my outdated Mac. What works for you?by Outdated Mac user - Café LA Re: Luma, Chroma and Broadcast Safe - 15 years agoHey, Joey: Yeah, I know it is not the best option, but I have Color Corrected an entire timeline, just about 1/8th of the clips on the timeline are either over on luma, chroma or both. In order to save time, I would simply like to apply the filter and be done with it. If that is the case, do my default settings on the broadcast safe filter conform to the requirements I mentioned? In other wordby Outdated Mac user - Café LA Luma, Chroma and Broadcast Safe - 15 years agoI was told to stay within the following guidelines for luma and chroma for a project: 1. luminance in the black areas must not fall below 7.5 IRE units (lower than 0%) 2. white levels must not exceed 100 IRE units (100%) 3. NTSC peak chrominancy plus luminance gamut must not exceed 120 IRE 4. Derived GBR values must remain within 0-700 millivolts." I just wanna apply broadcast safe.by Outdated Mac user - Café LA Chewed up tape - 15 years agoMy deck chewed up a DV tape as I was capturing. Tape is not broken, but I need to find a place that can salvage the footage by capturing and converting to a QT. Can anyone recommend a place?by Outdated Mac user - Café LA Recreating thumbnails - 15 years agoI tossed out files in the thumbnails folder, now I want to recreate the original thumbnail, because what I have now on my timeline is a thumbnail with the message MEDIA OFFLINE. How do I do this?by Outdated Mac user - Café LA Re: Error -50 when trying to burn a DVD - 15 years agoHi, Did you ever figure out what was going on with Toast/burning to DVD? I have the same problem.by Outdated Mac user - Café LA Re: Need recommendation: Iomega 500GB - 16 years agoIt is a G4, silverplated. Unfortunately, I got a prehistoric version of FCP 3.0 with it which I still use.by Outdated Mac user - Café LA Re: Need recommendation: Iomega 500GB - 16 years agoI need this for DV projects that can be quite long. Eventually I would like to move to DVCPro-HD. I will look into Promax and G-Tech, as those seem to work for those who have responded. What would I use Disk Warrior for? Also, where is G-Tech sold? OMUby Outdated Mac user - Café LA Need recommendation: Iomega 500GB - 16 years agoI need to purchase another external HD with a lot of memory for my Mac. I have a LaCie 500 GB, but have had problems with this in past. I saw an online ad for the Iomega 500 GB Ultramax Desktop HD. Wanted to know if this item is worth purchasing, or if you can recommend another brand that does not come with the headaches LaCie offers. Thanks.by Outdated Mac user - Café LA PAL vs. NTSC - 16 years agoI have to edit footage shot in both NTSC 4:3 and 16:9. I have now been told that I may have to incorporate mini-DV PAL footage. I have never worked with PAL, although I know PAL has better resolution, more horizontal lines. What editing problems should I anticipate when combing NTSC and PAL footage? Once I establish my frame size and frame rate, will FCP automatically convert the PAL footage to tby Outdated Mac user - Café LA Re: Artifacts appear on DVD - 16 years agoHow do you do a QT reference export? Export as Final Cut Pro movie but not making it self-contained? Or export using a regular QT H.264 compression? My other problem was memory. I had to toss all render files associated with original doc in order to make room for the FCP movie export and the extra 20 GB needed to create an iDVD folder on the desktop. Without render files, there was no way I cby Outdated Mac user - Café LA Artifacts appear on DVD - 16 years agoMy equipment: Mac G4 80 gb HD LaCie 500 gb OS 10.4.3 FCP 3.0 iDVD I need to send out a DVD sample of a 90 minute program. I took the program, exported it as a Final Cut Pro self contained movie (size: 18 gb), then imported into iDVD and burned it. Towards the middle of the DVD, artifacts appear: rectangular sections of the image appear and disappear, at times the sound gets scratchy, andby Outdated Mac user - Café LA Re: LaCie disk disappeared - 16 years agoThanks, everyone, for offering suggestions. Sorry it was the 1000th time someone brings the same topic up. When you got all your stuff on a drive and it goes, you don't look at previous posts, ya just write. The answers above worked. I had to play extensively with cables before I could get the disk read again. I will look into DiskWarrior, this is too much for the heart.by Outdated Mac user - Café LA LaCie disk disappeared - 16 years agoWhen I tried to open a FCP file today on my desktop, I had massive reconnection issues. This was because the Mac could not find the LaCie external HD on which most of the original footage is located. I turned LaCie on and off, I disconnected and reconnected, I did a search for the file, but I cannot get the HD and LaCie to communicate. I don't want to do more to the LaCie because all the originalby Outdated Mac user - Café LA Re: Compression to WMV and Flash using Sorenson - 16 years agoOS 10.4.8. I export the clip to QT using H.264 at highest quality, then I compress the QT file using Sorenson.by Outdated Mac user - Café LA Re: Compression to WMV and Flash using Sorenson - 16 years agoThanks for the info. That sheds some light on a dark subject. I have to use Sorenson or third party because my FCP 3 does not come with compression for WMV.by Outdated Mac user - Café LA Re: Compression to WMV and Flash using Sorenson - 16 years agoThanks for the input, Craig. Another question for ya: I took another file, this one is just under 9 minutes, and compressed using the Quicktime preset STREAMING-MEDIUM. This is an H.264 compression, uses 15 fps and restricts data rate to 220 bps. The preset is set for hinted streaming. It takes 2-3 minutes for a remote computer using DSL to get the file and begin to stream real time. Why is it taby Outdated Mac user - Café LA Re: Compression to WMV and Flash using Sorenson - 16 years agoSo am I correct in that if I encode as an FLV file, the person who opens up the file off the internet must have an FLV plug-in, and that the same goes if I encode as an SWF file? What is the difference between the two codecs? Also, I have Macromedia Flash 8, which comes with a player. Why doesn't it automatically open up the video when I stream the Flash file (FLV and SWF)?by Outdated Mac user - Café LA Compression to WMV and Flash using Sorenson - 16 years agoI would like to compress a QT file created in FCPro using Sorenson into WMV and Flash. Does anyone familiar with this software know if the regular Squeeze Suite 4.5, which comes with Flash output for Spark, will be enough for me to compress into both formats? I downloaded a free trial and was unable to read the outputted Flash file. Or do you recommend the more expensive Squeeze Power Pack?by Outdated Mac user - Café LA |
