Andrew- the question was how to get the "Import" option back. It was there and then it was gone. Didn't know what happened to it and I was doing this long distance. Mike- It is not my system. I suspect I will personally be upgrading soon. Just a hunch.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: XDCam EX import trouble... - 14 years agoThanks Andy. Yeah, I've been keeping a low profile. I'll report back as soon as something happens one way or the other..by TimJBD - Café LA XDCam EX import trouble... - 14 years agoGreetings. I know I've seen this problem reported before but I could not find it so here goes: My friend called me about trouble she was having importing XDCam EX media off a drive into FCP 6.06. She has the latest Sony transfer tool, too. The problem is that she does not have "Sony XDCam" as an option under "File" -> "Import" so I had her re-install the 6by TimJBD - Café LA Re: XDCam Logging Tool? - 15 years agoI would definitely use it, Andreas. How much? Like Justice Stevens (supposedly) said when asked if he could describe pornography, "Well, I may not be able to describe it, but I know it when I see it." So somewhere in that range.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: Remove "popping P's" from FCP soundtrack? - 15 years agoI had to do that to an interview that could not be re-recorded and I ended up having to park on the spot where the pop occurs, expand the timeline all the way in, then at the pop, there will be what looks like a small sine wave that is one or two frames (it's been a while). If you remove that, and clone the frame before or after it to replace, it ends up sounding pretty good. Experiment.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: Advice on wide angle converters - 15 years ago16x9 They don't sell to the public, though.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: Make an MPEG 2 in Compressor - 15 years agoYou are certainly parsimonious with the details.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: Make an MPEG 2 in Compressor - 15 years agoWhat are you starting with? Sequence settings, etc?by TimJBD - Café LA Re: Make an MPEG 2 in Compressor - 15 years agoYes, Compressor v 3.03. If you are using Compressor v2, the 'settings' menus are different and there is a good chance (I'm not remembering) that MPEG-2 Program Stream was not offered in v2. So are you using v2 or v3?by TimJBD - Café LA Re: Make an MPEG 2 in Compressor - 15 years agoIn the "settings" window go to the folder "Apple", then "Formats", then "MPEG-2" then from that folder, select "Program Stream" which is MPEG-2 compression with married 48kHz audio.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: 16/9 Distortion discovery or not? (Watch this) - 15 years agoJust looking at the video you posted, it looks like you have the camera set to widescreen mode. The DVX makes a widescreen image (unless you have an anamorphic adapter) by chopping off the top and bottom 60 rows of pixels so your raster is 720x360. They are still 4:3 chips. So in a 4:3 (12:9) timeline, it appears as letterbox 16:9 image. In a 16:9 timeline, It actually stretches the 12 out toby TimJBD - Café LA Re: 16/9 Distortion discovery or not? - 15 years agoThe DVX is a 4:3 only camera. Did you shoot with an anamorphic adapter or in the camera's widescreen mode?by TimJBD - Café LA Re: FCP Project to MPEG2 Combined Audio - 15 years agoSend them an MPEG 2 Program Stream. There is a preset in Compressor.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: Whatever happened to that mountaineer? - 15 years agoThis one? No color shift. The only difference will be that one camera will have a shallower depth of field (as long as both were white balanced under the same conditions or in preset wb).by TimJBD - Café LA Re: O.T. Camera Considerations - 15 years agoYes it does: HVX200A Offering the vast advantages of P2HD solid-state acquisition as well as a mini DV tape mechanism for shooting in SD, the HVX200A is ideal for transitioning from an older standard definition, tape-based infrastructure to a file-based, high definition production.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: Extreme Editing : Up a Mountain - 15 years agoFor backups, could burn data DVD's if you're economical in your shooting, which you will want to be if you're sending out reports from the field. One of the biggest time wasters in doing quick turnaround shoots is over shooting.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: Extreme Editing : Up a Mountain - 15 years agoThis would be a perfect situation for the Sony EX-1. It records to SxS memory cards, there's no deck needed. Just plug the card into the side of your Macbook Pro and it loads all the media very quickly. Then give it back to the shooter and he's on his way. This should also help in the extreme conditions as the camera has far fewer moving parts to freeze up and/or drain batteries. Then to FTby TimJBD - Café LA Re: Promax closes shop- Uh oh! - 15 years agoThanks Mike. I've heard DR Group mentioned but that's not the sort of name that comes to mind when looking for TV gear. Sounds more like a defense contractor.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: Promax closes shop- Uh oh! - 15 years agoThis is a problem. Just yesterday, I recommended Promax to a friend in SoCal who was looking for a bare-minimum FCP travel system. Does anyone know of any other reputable Promax-like establishments out there? Thanks in advance.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: DVCPRO HD 1080i60 vs DVCPRO HD 1080p30 - 15 years agoWhat kind of TV? Well, I watched it on my 32" Phillips CRT at home. I tuned in to see what the 30p would look like because I was considering shooting a TV doc that way. It looked damn good, much better than typical shows originating in interlace (like a TV news, reality shows, sports) so I DID shoot my doc that way and I've since seen it screened in a movie house with a Barco projector anby TimJBD - Café LA Re: DVCPRO HD 1080i60 vs DVCPRO HD 1080p30 - 15 years agoGoodness knows what happens at 30p. I would think that would look pretty awful because the graceful pulldown tricks aren't available. Actually 30p looks nice on TV. Much nicer than interlace in my opinion. The only show I can think of that was shot that way was "Laguna Beach- The Real Orange County" which was shot with a Pana SDX900. The show was not my cup of tea but it looked greaby TimJBD - Café LA Re: OT - Wi Fi Card for Mac Book? - 15 years agoThis is the one I use. Just got it and works great: Verizon V740by TimJBD - Café LA Re: Problem with .avi file - 15 years agoThere's also MPEG Streamclip: which I use almost every day for something or other.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: XDCAM via FAM!? - 15 years agoSimon from DVinfo.net is an owner: Shoot him an e-mail.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: XDCAM via FAM!? - 15 years agoI thought you might have shot the SD footage with an XDCam HD camera which shoots SD as DVCam, not IMX like the XDCam SD cameras shoot. Did you try setting the deck to AV/C and doing log and capture?by TimJBD - Café LA Re: XDCAM via FAM!? - 15 years agoIs the SD footage on an XDCam HD (therefore DVCam) disk or an XDCam (IMX) disk? In other words, was the SD footage shot with an XDCam HD camera (such as F-350) or an XDCam SD camera (such as a PDW 530)? The two are incompatible.by TimJBD - Café LA Re: Voice Over tool is greyed out. - 16 years agoThose things are finicky. Is there video in the timeline? Did you set an in-point?by TimJBD - Café LA |
