Surprisingly, I can't find anything solid about this with a Google search. Using FCP 7. (obviously) Kona 3 So far I've tested by enabling the specific tracks in audio insert options on the deck, and disabling the video track in FCP. My point is that in my current environment, HD formats moving through Firewire are not relevant to the FCP X discussion. So while it may be technically inaccurate to classify DVCPRO HD as prosumer, next to 10 bit 4:4:4 400mbps RGB true 16x9 HDCAM SRby plbhl - Café LA - X Re: Outpost Digital's founder Evan Schectman says, that's it, he's moving his facility to . . . - 12 years agoThe video is very helpful, thanks. The negative reaction to X has to be broken into two groups: Group One: Those who don't like the changes within the editing environment of FCP. I'm basically with Evan on this, all of the old functionality is there, and there's some very cool innovations and improvements. Apple has to be the one to embrace these issues, I don't want to rely on third parties for creative work-arounds regarding basic functionality. Apple alone has the responsibility of defining the timing of "these will come eventually", or telling us straight up that it will have to be up to third parties. Apple has REMOVED the following: XML, EDL, OMF, compatibility with AJA cards, professional monitoring and tape decks, dual monitor for application use. Without XML, EDL, OMF, AJA for monitors and decks, I can't use FCP in a feature film environment, period. I would also like to see development of tools for stereo, and RED Epic native editing support. But the results will vary depending on the complexity of the graphic. Sometimes there's no way around using motion mattes that match the graphic. I have had great results capturing HDV to prores, much better for editing and color correction. If you captured in HDV, I would still recompress with media manager to prores (I didn't use HQ but test HQ option for yourself) just for the ease of editing and absolutely for color correction. However, the motion is worse (more uneven, more syncopated) than true 24p imagery, and it cannot be reverse-telecined to get smooth 24fps imagery. CF24 is fine as a special effect if you're staying on video at 60i, but it's not suby plbhl - Café LA Re: Removing Cineframe 24 from 60i - 16 years agoThanks Jeff, will try Compressor for sure. What I mean by Kona ProRes is in the fcp media manager recompress drop down there is an option called Kona ProRes 422, which definitely looks tighter than the ProRes 422 codec it was captured in, (which came up as HDV ProRes in my capture settings) (Kona ProRes is not available in the capture settings, just media manager). I recompressed to DVCPro50 and knocked the files down by 75%. No quality issues, maybe SLIGHTLY more noise to a trained eye. Thanks!!by plbhl - Café LA Down Converting "Captured" Media? - 17 years agoI'm working on a feature length HD doc. The media was captured from SD beta SP down converts for the offline stage. However, the capturing was done with FCP's 10 bit Uncompressed 4:2:2 codec which means I have media running at around 224 mbps which should have been captured at no more than 50 mbps (and that's generous for beta SP). I have 2TB for storage and I'm running out.
