Click HERE to register now Re: Will Snow Leopard Make Compressing Video Faster??? - 15 years agoI was under the impression that OpenCL is similar to Nvidia's CUDA, and what adobe is using to accelerate some of their encoding with the elemental plugins. The speeds they seem to be getting out of it are a lot faster than what compressor seems to be able to do at the moment. While I realize some of it is marketing hype, even if the performance is half of what the marketing people claim, it's stby larkis - Café LA Viewing alternate aspect overlays - 15 years agoI'm working with some 2:1 footage that will be cropped to 16:9 and perhaps 4:3 on the end of the project. Is there a way to have some guides or overlays in final cut while editing that show the other aspect ratio ? Most 3d applications have this feature as well.by larkis - Café LA Re: Will Snow Leopard Make Compressing Video Faster??? - 15 years agoWhat codec are you encoding ? One thing to note as well is that when using compressor the apple tv HD preset encodes video much faster than the h.264 quicktime preset. One of the main differences in the speed is that one setting uses multi pass encoding and the other does not. On a virtual cluster it takes 4:27 minutes to encode a 5:13 second 2k clip (24p) with the apple TV HD preset. Going toby larkis - Café LA Re: ProRez 4444 Alpha compatibility - 15 years agoIt works with every other codec, the interpretation settings don't light up indicating that there is no alpha present in the file. Final cut does see it as well as the quicktime pro player. Very strange.by larkis - Café LA ProRez 4444 Alpha compatibility - 15 years agoIs the prorez 4444 alpha only compatible with final cut studio apps ? I exported a movie with alpha from After Effects into prorez 4444 and when I bring it back in the alpha is not there. When i load it into motion everything is fine, and quicktime player can export an alpha form the file if I pick the animation codec. The only app that does not want to read the alpha is after effects despite beiby larkis - Café LA Compressor and two macs, do I need a SAN ? - 15 years agoI have two mac pros I work on day to day and would like to take advantage of the 16 total cores to accelerate my compressor encodes. I know about virtual clustering and using all the cores on each of the machines, but the problem I'm running into is when I want to spread the task over two computers. What happens is that compressor copies the media to be encoded over to other locations on each ofby larkis - Café LA Re: New FCP Monitors: Suggestions? - 16 years agoI was going to start a new thread but noticed someone is already discussing this topic. I'm currently using an 30" apple cinema display and wanted to get an additional monitor for mirroring video when i'm working with final cut or for after effects palettes I'm getting pretty confused about the offerings right now when doing some initial research. It seems like panels made by the samby larkis - Café LA Re: Final cut color issue (with magic bullet looks) - 16 years agoMy final cut version is 6.0.4, Quicktime version 7.5, the sequence setting in this case is Pro Rez HQ, but before i posted about the issue i tried various formats and settings and the issue happens regardless of sequence settings (8 or 10 bit) so the sequence settings don't seem to be relevant. What seems to be happening is that magic bullet looks does not apply the gamma correction to the imageby larkis - Café LA Re: Final cut color issue (with magic bullet looks) - 16 years agoHere is basic info for one of my systems the problem occurs on. By the way, this issue existed both on tiger and leopard so i'm not sure it's OS specific. Hardware: Hardware Overview: Model Name: Mac Pro Model Identifier: MacPro3,1 Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processor Speed: 3 GHz Number Of Processors: 2 Total Number Of Cores: 8by larkis - Café LA Re: Final cut color issue (with magic bullet looks) - 16 years agoIs there any way for me to e-mail you more detailed info about my system config ?by larkis - Café LA Re: Final cut color issue (with magic bullet looks) - 16 years agoMy system setup is a pair of 8 core mac pro's. The issue exists on both. One has an ati card X1900 and the other has the nvidia GeForce 8800GT. I know a broadcast monitor will be my final output, but the image should not differ in the looks window. Doing the looks in final cut is handy for me since some things only have 4 or 5 after effects sections while the rest of the cut is untouched besidby larkis - Café LA Final cut color issue (with magic bullet looks) - 16 years agoI'm not sure if this is a final cut issue or a magic bullet looks issue, but i'm going to assume that it's a final cut issue considering this problem does not exist outside of final cut. Magic bullet looks launches the same application where the look is designed regardless of the plugin host. What i have noticed is that final cut sends a brighter frame into the looks application than what itby larkis - Café LA Re: Qmaster clustering for Compressor? - 16 years agoFrom what i can tell it's busted with leopard. Lots of people on the apple support forums are having issues with it. I have a fresh install of leopard on two new 8 core macpro's and qmaster does not work. It did work for an hour (on one computer) and then dies again. Sometimes a cluster shows up in the que window but not in compessor. IN tiger i had it running perfectly without any issues.by larkis - Café LA how do you do this ? - 16 years agoI don't even know the proper term for this type of edit, but i have a clip (let's call it clip A) and then i have 30 cuts after that in my timeline. What i want to do is shorten clip A and have all the cuts move forward by the amount of frames i shortened clip A. Right now when i cut some frames of clip A i get a gap, then have to zoom out, select all the cuts in my timeline and move them to fillby larkis - Café LA working with viper footage - 16 years agoHas anyone here worked with the viper and successfully went from log to lin and done color corrections in color ? Are there LUT tables for the viper available for color ? Are there tools for creating your own LUT files that color can read ? All i have is an excel document with the viper gamma mappings. Any tips would be greatby larkis - Café LA how good is prorez for post work ? - 16 years agoI do a lot of compositing and fx work with my footage after the edit is done (mostly for commercials and station ID's), once in a while there is green screen as well. Most of this comes from a uncompressed HD source (not HDV). How good is prorez at being shuffled back and forth between applications and then finally for color correcting within apple's color ? Is there a lot of loss ? How many timeby larkis - Café LA inexpensive control surface for color ? - 16 years agoAre there any inexpensive control surfaces for color grading one can get ? Something in the 1000 range or under ? I don't need anything super sophisticated, but being able to manipulate 2 or 3 things at once would be helpful.by larkis - Café LA Multi computer setup question - 16 years agoI have multiple computers in my home studio and would like to move some of my equipment to another room (perhaps the basement where it's cooler) because there is to much heat being generated right now. The question I have is about a solution that would let me run final cut along with other software in use in tandem (like modo/lightwave/afterfx) on the computers located in the other room as ifby larkis - Café LA inexpensive SAN for small studio ? - 16 years agoWhat is the best SAN solution for a small studio ? Something that could support 3 or 4 so computers and does not cost more than the computers combined.by larkis - Café LA Re: Clarifications on clustering - 16 years agoI have tried this out and the problem persists. When anything more than one instance is used on each of the computers the render times go way overboard. The 8 core configured as a virtual cluster alone takes about 1 minute to render my sample when the source footage is locally. When it's being dragged into compressor from a shared drive the speed seems to suffer a lot. It seems like there is someby larkis - Café LA Clarifications on clustering - 16 years agoI have been trying to cluster together my G5 Quad core with my 8 Core mac pro, and while I managed to set up the cluster I have noticed that the rendering speed goes down the higher the number of instances I configure in the qmaster control panel on the respective devices. When i add one instance on my G5, and one instance on my 8 core i get a 4 minute render time down from 8 minutes if i useby larkis - Café LA Re: How usefull is compressor when it matters ? - 17 years agoI have all the latest updates and versions of final cut. I was able to convert about 80 clips or so but if you try over 300 things start to "blow up". Reason I'm using prorez after the reverse telecine is so i'm not re encoding back into apple intermediate or the HDV codec. Seems to work very nice once i have the 24p clips madeby larkis - Café LA How usefull is compressor when it matters ? - 17 years agoI have about 380+ apple intermediate codec clips that i captured from a HDV camcorder and was going to convert them all to pro rez using compressor with the reverse telecine feature. The issue i'm running into is the fact that compressor crashes when i add the clips to the list, and when i make a droplet of the setting and drag all the clips onto it my quad core G5 starts spinning it's fans and bby larkis - Café LA Re: Luminance confusion - 17 years agoSo if you are mac only do you set your gamma to 1.8 ? I know for doing photographic color management the preferred gamma is 2.2 for many applications. And i don't want to be mixing 1.8 with 2.2 for my displays. Has anyone come up with a solution to control this It's sort of silly for the image to go brighter on the same display when it was fine in the app that created it to begin with.by larkis - Café LA Luminance confusion - 17 years agoDoes anyone have a problem where quicktime movies rendered to some apple formats become brighter ? For example I have an animation rendered out of After FX to pro rez and in quicktime player is looks brighter than it did in AE. When i bring it back into final cut it looks correct again. Apple animation on the other hand stays the same regardless of which application i open it with, same with photby larkis - Café LA editing stills - 17 years agoThis is probably a very basic question, but what is the best approach for editing stills with final cut ? When i load in a bunch of jpegs (al the same size) final cut wants to render them before it can play it back. Any way to prep still so it does not do that ? Or do i have to save stills as DV (or other format) quicktime movies out of after effects ? I'm trying to edit storyboards to a sound trby larkis - Café LA Replacing multple cuts - 17 years agoI'm working on an edit that has a ton of quick cuts, 2 and 4 frames, sometimes 1 frames. This goes on for over 3 minutes and i have a TON of cuts. I need to select a bunch of them randomly in the timeline and be able to replace them with another piece of footage from my bin without going one by one as this would take forever. Are there any tricks or tools for doing this ? I know i could swap my sby larkis - Café LA |
