The drive uses a FW800 cable to interface with the iMac. Success! Final Cut sees the deck! Thanks again super-much for all your help. Jeanneby Jeanne Rawlings - Café LA Re: 2010 iMac only has USB Ports, need Thunderbolt (?) - 12 years agoAndreas, Jude, Nick, Grafixjoe, Russ, bj - I wish I could buy you all a cup of coffee for your help with my problem. I didn't mention that last week I called a tech guy (B and H Photo) and he had basically told me that the new macs had made old tape systems obsolete ("if you figure out how to work around it, let us know" he said). Thanks for enlightening me. I now see the FW800by Jeanne Rawlings - Café LA Re: 2010 iMac only has USB Ports, need Thunderbolt (?) - 12 years agoThanks everyone. I do already have a 2TB Cal-digit AV drive w/FW800 that talks nicely to my iMac via the USB port. My question was if that was the standard work-around. Hopefully Final Cut Pro will see the tape deck through the system and successfully Log & Capture. Will tackle this tomorrow. Problem: I just got a new video editing job, which includes SD tape footage. Unfortunately, I sold my 2008 iMac (which had Firewire ports) and upgraded in 2010 to iMac 10.1 (intel Core 2 Duo 3Ghz). Also, thanks much on the "general" and "video processing" sequence settings. Now my last question - when I go to export, do I save as "current settings"? I would imagine so, but don't want to mess this up at this point.by Jeanne Rawlings - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Sony EX3 HD footage - already edited in FCP but not in ProRes 422 format - How to fix now? - 12 years agoThis is very, very good news. When I export to QT, do I save as "Current Settings", or select "422 ProRes HQ 1920x108030p"? Your advice is invaluable. As to colorist - I have color-corrected on my own (based on my intern-work for a post-production house). But now wondering about what you said - sending to a colorist. Any idea how much that would cost for a 20-min sequenceby Jeanne Rawlings - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Sony EX3 HD footage - already edited in FCP but not in ProRes 422 format - How to fix now? - 12 years agoI've been shooting with my Sony EX3 XDCam in 1920x1080 30p and converting thru XDCam transfer to .mov format. Then I successfully have edited them in FCP 7.0.3. Well, I just found out that I really must edit in Apple ProRes 422 codec. That's the codec that apparently FCP 7 likes the best and it's the "chosen" workflow for the EX 3. I'm adjusting "Alpha+RGB" channels. Is that the best? This is wonderful.by Jeanne Rawlings - Café LA Fixing pixel distortion in jacket on interview subject - 12 years agoHi - I am shooting in hi-def (1920x1080p) and have an issue with the client's jacket - I had no control (he's a politician) and it's a shiny tweed. We were under fluorescent lights. Now I'm editing and the pattern swirls as he moves his arm are extremely distracting. Any advice on how to fix this in Final Cut? My gratitude to you for the follow-up. Everyone's been extremely helpful.by Jeanne Rawlings - DVD Studio Pro Re: Copy Protection on DVD Studio Pro not working - 14 years agoThanks, Jake - I guess I'm still stuck with sending the DDP fileset out, as I don't have the authoring drive you're talking about. I'll check around and see if they're available, for a reasonable cost - because sending out to a facility has a such a slow turn-around time.by Jeanne Rawlings - DVD Studio Pro Re: Copy Protection on DVD Studio Pro not working - 14 years agoA 300 minimum-run is coming down to $4.89/each (includes tax, shipping and handling). Without the sales tax, etc, it's $4.28/each. I'm going with Disc Makers, and that price includes box, wrap, and labeling. Thanks for the answer - greatly appreciated.by Jeanne Rawlings - DVD Studio Pro Re: Copy Protection on DVD Studio Pro not working - 14 years agoThank you. I have contacted a replication facility and they are going to use the hard-drive master I've created to manufacture the CSS-encrypted discs. I just thought I could do one by myself. I'm sorry that once again I missed something in the DVD Studio Pro manual. Thanks for your speedy reply.by Jeanne Rawlings - DVD Studio Pro Copy Protection on DVD Studio Pro not working - 14 years agoHello, I am creating a DVD for a client and though I'm enabling "no copy permitted" in the Inspector (and double-checking under the Build/Format tab at the top of DVDSP (DVDStudioPro) and Region/Copyright tab) - it's still allowing me to copy it. It's weird, because the first time I created the project in DVDSP and checked "Copyright Management" and "No Copy Permittby Jeanne Rawlings - DVD Studio Pro Re: DVD won't play - 14 years agoThanks. I keep forgetting that you aren't just random bloggers and/or amateurs, and that I must apply your troubleshooting suggestions in a methodical way. The problem is fixed. It was a user error (how did you know?). I had spent so much effort creating the templet, buttons, chapters, several menus - that I kept going back to it to troubleshoot. I will read-up on DVD authoring more, though as I said earlier, I was able to use it flawlessly on my company's mac - now that I've got my own editing business, it's not been working. I'm just so stumped at why my two players aren't reading my DVD Studio generated copies... but do read the iDVD ones. I was thinking that you and Jeff were telling me to not use DVD-Studio Pro.by Jeanne Rawlings - Café LA Re: DVD won't play - 14 years agoDerek - Thanks I somehow missed your comment/suggestion. Could you answer what I've replied IN CAPS and that will iron out this editor's fried brain: "Export a full-quality QuickTime movie first (Export - QuickTime Movie, not Export - Using Compressor), and do it from your original timeline, not any of the movie files you've made. Or are you saying that I should avoid DVD Studio Pro all together? How do you work-around the menu/authoring goodies of DVD Studio Pro? I'm making that MPeg from Compressor at the moment...will try whatever you suggest tomorrow... Thanks again.by Jeanne Rawlings - Café LA Re: DVD won't play - 14 years agoHi Jude - checked and, no - that's not it.by Jeanne Rawlings - Café LA Re: DVD won't play - 14 years agoHi, What I mean by "won't play" is one machine (purchased in 2005) recognizes a disk, but boots it out; the other one (I bought it in 2007) simply says "unrecognizable disk" - though when I first put it in, it asks if I want to "resume" or "play from start". I've spent all of today reading through the Forum. Maybe you can help me. Why is it that when I burn a DVD using DVD Studio Pro, it will play great on my mac, but not on either of my DVD players? BUT, again, I'm listening to the footage through the headphones directly from the source recording device (the Sony v1U camera) and - exact same footage doesn't break up. It is a perfect recording.
