All goes swimmingly until I have to digitize from tape (Panasonic DVCProHD deck.) The clips are about 18 frames off (audio leads video, always.) I've been on the phone with AJA help as well as AppleCare and noone seems to have any ideas. I've trashed preferences, trashed cache files, and we're on our third re-install of the operby adelena - Café LA Re: tablet anyone? - 14 years agoSome day, when I have my own studio, I'll try just that. Hearkens back to the old flat-bed days. I've convinced my boss to go to bat for me and see if we can get a tablet in here sometime in the next month or so. Thanks again for all the input and advice.by adelena - Café LA Re: audio output problem (Panasonic HD1700) - 14 years agoV, Nailed it, thanks for the teach! I was using the Panasonic 59.94 VTR preset. It will let you choose to output 8 channels but it defaults to four. Shane, thanks, check and check. Sorry if I didn't make that clear in my earlier posts. Andreby adelena - Café LA Re: audio output problem (Panasonic HD1700) - 14 years agoNo, it does not. I just tried that and I double checked to make sure the Kona card was behaving. Sometimes it does not follow my setups.by adelena - Café LA Re: audio output problem (Panasonic HD1700) - 14 years agoHmmm...I did allow eight channels in sequence settings. 1&2 are stereo vo, 3&4 mono nats sounds, 5&6, 7&8 are stereo music. How does this make a difference?by adelena - Café LA audio output problem (Panasonic HD1700) - 14 years agoI've been working on my first few HD projects over the last two months. This problem has stumped everyone I've spoken to. I have a 720p60 sequence with 8 channels of audio. When it came time to lay off the first piece to our DVCProHD deck (Panasonic HD1700) I could not get eight audio channels. The deck's audio inputs are set to digital and AES, all channels. I've checked and re-checked myby adelena - Café LA Re: tablet anyone? - 14 years agoI have seen a doctor. He confirms that it is bersitis (sp?) probably brought on/aggravated by my job, and I have been taking Celebrex (and it seems to be working.) I notice that my arm fatigues much more quickly now then it used to though, and I would like to be less dependant on a very expensive anti-inflammatory to do my job well. The ergonomics of my work station are great. My only complby adelena - Café LA tablet anyone? - 14 years agoI've been having some trouble with my mouse hand and forearm, bersitis apparently. I've been tossing around the idea of switching from a conventional mouse to a stylus and tablet setup. Does anyone have any experience editing with these? Does it make it any easier on your hand and forearm? If not, am I missing out, should I try it anyway? Thanks FCP 6.0.4 4 Core Mac w/4GB RAM IPD/EVSby adelena - Café LA Some thoughts for now - 16 years agoSome thoughts for now: Being able to edit in Panasonic's P2 format natively. Also, when you convert to quicktime for import from an EVS or P2 you lose much of the meta-data (from EVS the only thing that comes through is the memory location in the EVS.) It would be nice if at least the file name could be preserved. I like the interface but it needs to be bigger. Size the jpegs down to no more than twice your frame size. Worked like a charm for me. Got this advice from Derek a while back.by adelena - Café LA Re: exporting 4 track audio - 14 years agoIs downmix on? And, check the audio routing in the Audio Mixer tab. In the upper left under Tracks. Right click or control click each channel and make sure it's routed properly. Oh, just realized that part of the Audio Mixer may be closed. It's to the left of the faders. Click on the triangle to open up the little routing panel.by adelena - Café LA time lapse & standard motion in same frame - 14 years agoHave you seen the commercials where they record a time lapse shot and cg a person or persons into the same shot in real time? I can think of a couple of ways to get the two shots together using two locked down clips and a couple of 8-pt garbage mattes. My thought is there would be no depth. The real time shot would have to be "on top." I want a timelapse of a city street, crowds walby adelena - Café LA Re: Editing DNxHD in FCP - 14 years agoYes, you may want to try REDRushes or one of the other pieces of software RED offers for transcoding R3d files. That might give you a cleaner result. I'm not sure how it works with Avid? Can you straight import the RED proxy quicktimes? We've had mixed success importing different quicktime formats into our Avids. It may be just a question of finding the right recipe? Good luck. Andreby adelena - Café LA Re: EDIT to tape not sending audio - 14 years agoDo you have downmix on? Edit to tape won't send audio sometimes if it's on.by adelena - Café LA Re: 16:9 footage not being captured as 16:9 - 14 years agoBen, As soon as I sent that message I knew I'd hear from someone about it. Thanks for the info. Obviously I meant it shoots an anamorphic image, not letterboxed.by adelena - Café LA Re: IMX files... - 14 years agoI work on a 4core with 4GBs ram off an internal software raid in FCP and IMX 50 (the highest data rate) works great. Most of our production company is Avid however and we use IMX 50 as our SD codec and it imports easily into our MCs (quicktime or otherwise.) Andreby adelena - Café LA Re: 16:9 footage not being captured as 16:9 - 14 years agoI shoot with the PD170 and it shoots true anamorphic. I have no idea why you're experiencing this problem? Try using the Firewire cable to digitize. FCP will recognize the camera and automatically change your ingest settings. It shouldn't matter if you digitize 4:3 or 4:3 with a "squeeze" setting, 16:9 anamorphic is basically 4:3. Just to make sure, perhaps you need to check theby adelena - Café LA Re: Editing DNxHD in FCP - 14 years agoDefinetly sub-optimal but it does raise some interesting possibilities re: AVID/FCP workflows, like strypes was saying. On a related note. I've just installed the RED FCS package and the RED Quicktime codec but the Log & Transfer plugin isn't showing up in my L&T prefs? Is this a common problem? Is there a step I'm missing?? Andreby adelena - Café LA Re: Editing DNxHD in FCP - 14 years agoDNx and FCP? I had no idea one could do this?by adelena - Café LA Editing DNxHD in FCP - 14 years agoSo, I work in a post house that is 99% Avid, but we utilize a couple of FCP stations for different jobs. I am the operator of one of these aforementioned machines. Lately we've been using our FCP Macs to transcode RED footage to DNxHD Quicktimes and ingest them into our Avids to do the finish edit. I had some spare time this morning so I started playing around with these rendered files and I cby adelena - Café LA Re: OT: Slates and Countdowns - 14 years ago"Unity!! I'm Rick James biyatch!!" Anyone ever busted out an old 3/4 inch where the "timecode" is a computerized voice actually saying the time of day on one of the audio tracks? Blew me away. I had no idea!? Andreby adelena - Café LA Re: OT: Slates and Countdowns - 14 years agoWe add the traditional 10sec slate and pop on 2 to everything that goes to the networks...actually everything. It's just a good way of keeping track of who did what, audio config, etc...you never know who's going to be cueing the thing and on what system?by adelena - Café LA Re: Editing with Avid DNx Codec - 14 years agoWe have two XT2 and generally we run one in DNxHD (I'm gonna say 220Megs maybe 145??) and the other in IMX50. Our production house is basically run on Windows Avid (I'm one of two FCP stations in-house. As you know, DNx is Avid's HD codec and IMX is their SD codec (or at least the one we chose when setting up the system.) I feed off of the IMX XT for what I'm doing and the rest of the house caby adelena - Café LA Re: Editing with Avid DNx Codec - 14 years agoV, I've played around with this as well as we have many Avids and a couple of FCP macs. Same as above. I read about MXF4QT used in conjuntion with an EVS (with IMX not DNx) and it really got my wheels turning. I wonder if it would allow a FCP mac to cut with DNx EVS mxfs?? I'll have to go back to the site and look at the specs. We've had pretty good sucess feeding our Media Composer staby adelena - Café LA Re: Effect How to?? - 14 years agoTrails baby! Like when you slow the shutter speed way down on a video camera? There's probably a plug-in out there for that?by adelena - Café LA Re: remote video production... - 14 years agoHere's a good article from this month's tv technology magazine: The article is called "A Workflow Seachange for ENG" Basically what Andy said.by adelena - Café LA Re: remote video production... - 14 years agoThere are backpack/trunk size units you could hump into a jungle. Ku band uplink that can carry data, video, audio...whatever you want. Not cheap and not easy to use. Research what news types use to file stories from the field. I'm pretty sure they use a satellite phone with a data modem and laptop to file print stories, video and audio from really remote locations. These setups are more useby adelena - Café LA Re: Template for TV show - 15 years agoSo, what was your answer? Just curious? I've worked on a couple tv shows and the specs were all a bit different. Aby adelena - Café LA Re: Trying to understand anamorphic - 15 years agoSimpler: there are only two aspect ratios (I know there are more than that but for our purposes only two) 4:3 & 16:9, a square and a rectangle. Anamorphic footage is a 16:9 picture "squished" into a 4:3 box that is displayed in 16:9. 16:9 & 4:3 are a ratio not the frame size, this is how you can have 1080 video that is 16:9. Clear as mud right?by adelena - Café LA Re: ken burns...more of that - 15 years agoI have Motion but not AE. I'll knock around in there. Decca, thanks for the link.
