I had a project that required Quicktimes to be in ProRes Lite whilst running FCP6. The way I got round this was to get hold of the QT component from a friend who had FCP 7, then in the Library/quicktime folder moved the following file to the desktop (just in case) AppleProResCodec.component, in fact I copied theby FindonChrispy - Café LA Eye spy Kona drivers...... - 12 years agolooking to see what Kona had to offer for my older FCP and saw this I hope that FCP X does work out, I have yet to try it and in no way ready to panic and jump ship....by FindonChrispy - Café LA - X Re: OT: An Editor's Lament - 12 years agoYeah Apologies to all if I have started a bit of a cheapening of the topic, was just trying to relate a viewpoint that isn't often heard of or expected from my area of work and i'm getting used to people casting aspersions without having seen a specific example of your work. We had the CEO of the music library that we use (the biggest in the UK that many big broadcasters also use) contact us a lby FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: OT: An Editor's Lament - 12 years agoTons of Editing goes into our stuff and i'm happy to say that what we do here is about 1000% better and more interesting than your usual porn. Because it's made by people who like filming and editing and not in porn for more ahem *personal* reasons! Magic bullet looks diffusion comes in handy with Models skin and Full HD.....by FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: OT: An Editor's Lament - 12 years agoHey Joey, I'm working mostly as a Porn Editor- luckily its for one of the bigger more arty companies over here in europe and pretty much everyone i've spoken too about this work has had a really positive response. Even from my nan. She saw it as a way for me to work as an editor and support my wife and two kids. So I can't be too negative about the industry! All the usual maintenance has been done but i'll take a look at onyx. We even run an File system check in unix after big updates or if things get really buggy, as well as PRAM and SMU resets. Disk Warrior is also done regularly (just to check) and our directories are tidierby FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: long project file opening times - 13 years agoHi Ben, I work a few feet away from Mr Cox and can vouch for the amount of drive space that there is on the drives he is using and there is plenty of from, over 50% free give or take a smidgen. But this has been an issue over the last few months on and off. We get 3/4 of the way through a project and it'll take 5,10 maybe even 20minutes to open a project file. Oddly enough, and i though this might happen. All is better today. I shut the machine machine down after work and went home, came back to work this morning and i have had none of the issues that i described yesterday. Very odd indeed. At a post facility that i work at full time, i use mac pro's with kona card setups and full monitoring and have seen how upgradable the towers are, allowing us to install e-sata cards in the pci slots for example and upgrading video cards. However at home, i tendby FindonChrispy - Café LA FCP crashing at the end or project? - 14 years agohello, every time i get towards the end of a project, FCP decides its going to crash at very inappropriate times, meaning i have to go trawling through auto-save vaults looking for the right project file. which doesn't seem quite right to me. I was working on a G5 which suffered from the same problem but have since upgraded and i am now working on a 2x 2.66ghz dual core xeon with 5gb of ramby FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: Audio Issue - 14 years agoI've been experiencing this problem for a long time now, the audio all being set and correct settings wise, but having the audio jumble itself up due to bad renders. The newest problem i have encountered since updating to 6.0.6 is a random 1 frame blast of white noise writing itself into the audio that on playback peaks off the chart. A fellow editor also using the same equipment (quad intel, maby FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: Problems with G-Drives? - 14 years agoI have had Two G-Drive Q's go bad on me in the last few months, causing my whole system to crash when connected to the machine. Luckily the hard drive was fun and it was just the board that went peculiar. In the end due to deadlines i had to take the drives out of the casings and put them inside my mac pro where they now happily reside. I do have to empty casings too that make good paperweights..by FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: OT- What to reckon of this.......... A Free NLE...... - 14 years agoThat can be a problem for any new app that gets developed, some, like open office seem to maintain a steady momentum and gain a steady fan base. I use open office all the time instead of microsoft office and both are fully compatible with the other. I wonder if kdenlive will cut a open source niche for itself in the same way...... A Free NLE...... - 14 years agoI have to admit to having a soft spot for the whole open source community and take my hat off to their dedication and hard work. I used a free app called 'Audacity' in college for all my projects and it worked just as well as Soundtrack pro in the aspects i needed it too. It will be interesting to see how it develops.......by FindonChrispy - Café LA OT- What to reckon of this.......... A Free NLE...... - 14 years agoSaw a review of this in a Linux magazine, just thought it'd be interesting to see what people thought of it, not a serious contender for the likes of FCP and AVID but for the hobbyist/IMovie/Windows Movie Maker user?by FindonChrispy - Café LA Re: Discreet HD cameras? - 14 years agoThe Sony A1 is a cracking little camera, i have used it on a couple of occasions and was really impressed with it. More so because of the XLR attachment that comes with it allowing balanced audio recording. Plus it can record both HDV1080i and DVCAM..... But it's a little above the budget you've listed, the cameras in that range will be more consumer orientated with built in microphoneby FindonChrispy - Café LA OT: May be relevant to someone- GRAID2 DRIVES - 14 years agoJust about to eat my lunch today when i get a call from the boss asking me to disk warrior his GRAID2 drive as it had been playing up. Now he has sent off his quicktimes but is being told they are in XDCAM not Pro res and upon checking this appears to be true.
