Now I'm using it with 3 ProRes422 angles, and it will work for about 30 seconds and then begin to freeze up, cough and wheeze, and then finally stop working. Any thoughts on this? It works fine if i use any of the two angles, but three seems to do 'er in. I'm using FCP 7.0.3, and media is on LaCie Rugged, 7200 RPM drive. Tby jcblalock - Café LA Best web compression for a feature film - 12 years agoHi all, I have a 45 minute film I put on Youtube, and unlike my other videos on Youtube, it freezes about every ten seconds. Just for a moment, but it's enough to make it annoying to watch. The original format is DV NTSC. Here it is: I usually compress using MPEG Streamclip to MP4 and don't have a problem, but this video is much longer than usual. I have Compressor as well. Anyby jcblalock - Café LA HVX and Print to Video / Edit to Tape - 14 years agoHi folks, I used to work on Sony cameras and decks, and didn't have too many problems with Print to Video or Edit to Tape. With my Panasonic HVX-200 it's a different story. I recorded TC on the tape (starting at 58:50:00), the ETT/PTT functions find it, but then I get a message that says: "Timecode appears to be missing from the tape. Please verify that tape is timecoded correctly.&qby jcblalock - Café LA Re: Larry David, compressed - 14 years agoI got it. The DV50 NTSC option sounds like the best option for boosting my titles and subtitles quality. Made it! Thanks all around! Now, this guy with his XL2....by jcblalock - Café LA Re: Larry David, compressed - 14 years agoWhoa is right! My timeline is not set to H.264. It's set to DV/DVCPRO NTSC. Thanks "mattsilfen" and "John K" for the export advice. But let me ask, when I choose "Export > Quicktime Movie" with "current settings" selected, there is no quality information regarding compression given, so I don't know if I'm getting the highest possible output. It alsby jcblalock - Café LA Re: Larry David, compressed - 14 years agoThank you for the thoughtful answer! Of course I agree, HD is better. I shot this documentary over the course of a few years, before HD was available to me. I'm not quite clear on the ghosting issue being related to shutter speed, since it's titles and subtitles that are ghosting--and I created them in post, using both Motion and FCP title tool. The Larry David point I was trying to make isby jcblalock - Café LA Re: Larry David, compressed - 14 years agoYes, the Larry David bellweather is a bit tongue in cheek. If Larry can export/encode it, I should be able to as well.....by jcblalock - Café LA Re: Larry David, compressed - 14 years agoThe "eh" is that the picture on my computer lacks the sharpness of my TV--it's pixelated. And most egregiously, the titles and subtitles all have a bit of strange shadow. A "ghosting" might be a better term, as the shadow is the same color as the letter--a subtle pixely blur! Not extremely bad, but not as good as same film on TV... or Curb Your Enthusiasm on my computer.by jcblalock - Café LA Larry David, compressed - 14 years agoHello, I'm putting the final touches on a film, and the DVD looks great on my TV. However, when played back on my computer, it looks.... "eh." The picture lacks the sharpness of my TV. And most egregiously, the titles and subtitles all have a bit of strange shadow. I wouldn't let this bother me, such is life, but... Last night I was watching Curb Your Enthusiasm, and the DVD lby jcblalock - Café LA Re: audio mysteriously disappears - 14 years agoThanks! The audio mixdown worked. -Jasonby jcblalock - Café LA audio mysteriously disappears - 14 years agohi folks, I have been working on a doc for two years (FCP 5.1), and just watched the final output DVD, and then went back to color correct a few shots. After color correcting, I let it play for a minute, and the audio on tracks 1 and 2 suddenly disappears in the middle of a shot--not on a cut or anything. The audio level reader also goes dead. This lasts for a minute, then it mysteriously rby jcblalock - Café LA output to tape is out of sync - 15 years agoHi all, I have a 29.97 NTSC project, and I've tried to output it to tape, using my camera as the deck, and it's out of sync. First I used Print To Video, and it was off by more than a second. Second I used Edit To Tape, and it was off by about 5 frames. To verify it is indeed out of sync, I captured the tape back into FCP. I know this is probably an easy fix, but a quick search didby jcblalock - Café LA Re: Compression for HD DVD - 15 years ago1. All I know is SD projects in DVDSP seem to be automatically compressed (that's how you can fit an hour SD QT onto a 4.7 gb disc), while HD DVD projects are not. I will look into the user prefs, thanks for that. 2. I'm burning an HD-DVD, because I shot in HD, and DVDSP Preferences gives you two options: SD or HD DVD Project. If it's obsolete, DVDSP should provide an updater that removes tby jcblalock - Café LA Compression for HD DVD - 15 years agoHi folks, With SD projects, I've been able to export a full res QT, up to an hour (about 12 gigs), and DVD Studio Pro will automatically compress it to less than 4.7g to fit on a standard disc. I'm making my first HD disc, and DVDSP doesn't compress the media at all--so I have a 30 minute film that remains 5.3 gigs, and won't fit on the disc. Any ideas on how to do a slight compression tby jcblalock - Café LA Re: random P2 files won't import into FCP - 15 years agoSOLVED!! I called a bunch of HVX owners I know, and here's what I had to do: 1. In the Log & Transfer (or Import P2) window, go the the Preferences menu at the top right. 2. DE-select "Remove Advanced Pulldown and Duplicate Frames" PRESTO!! Thanks to all for your help. -Jasonby jcblalock - Café LA Re: random P2 files won't import into FCP - 15 years agoOh sorry, let me rephrase: Various SHOTS, recorded in succession onto a P2 card, won't import into FCP. The first two shots came in fine, the next three fail, then a few more come in fine, etc. There seems to be no discernible pattern, and with no explanation to the failures other than the "!" symbol. Any ideas?by jcblalock - Café LA random P2 files won't import into FCP - 15 years agoI shot a verite doc yesterday, and ended up with 60 clips. I copied them from the HVX200 to my LaCie drive with a Firewire cable, and then used Import to bring into FCP. A random selection of 25 clips did not import, but instead jut remained in the queue with a red stop sign and "!" symbol next to them. Retries failed as well. They all play fine in the camera. -A friend mentionedby jcblalock - Café LA Still images are still moving! - 15 years agoHi there, I made a few still images from master clips using the "make freeze frame" command, and they look great in the timeline. However, when I burn to DVD, and play it on my TV, the people in those frozen frames shake and convulse! It looks like the freeze frame is caught between two frames. Should I export my still and bring it back in as a jpeg? Do I just need to deinterlaceby jcblalock - Café LA Why Mono Mix? - 16 years agoI captured footage and cut a movie at work, using separate audio channel settings (ch 1 and 2), and it worked fine. Then I put all the media and project on a LaCie drive and brought it home. A month later, on my home G4 tower, I've created a new project and imported some of that footage, but it's all coming in "Mono Mix"--one channel of audio. As an experiment, I brought in otherby jcblalock - Café LA |
