Do you have any actual actual experience using a Dreamcolor in a color grading suite as I do or are you just saying that based on your looking over the specs and staring in disbelief? I'm not asking you to agree with me opinion here but at least give me the respect of having hands-on experience with this particular piece of gear. Noahby NoahK - Café LA

You can go component into the Dreamcolor from a Kona card and it rocks. These are in lots of color grading suites. Believe me I used to be a CRT purist as well but if you've actually seen one of these working with Scratch or a Color suite you'll realize they are a great option. And I say that without any reason to other than personal opinion because I'm not an HP dealer. Now I'm not saying aby NoahK - Café LA

I dunno about 50K- the HP Dreamcolor LCDs are totally usable for color grading and they're more like $2-3K. Noahby NoahK - Café LA

I like Bose speakers for semi cheap laptop speakers. Also Audio Engine makes some affordable stuff in that range. Noahby NoahK - Café LA

Yeah depends what you have in mind- I'm running it with RED footage with no issues. But say if I wanted to transfer P2 footage with a duel adapter- that would be a heck no to upgrading. And truth be told there's little new in SL that affects FCP from a general user's POV. In other words you're not missing anything big... Noahby NoahK - Café LA

Yeah it's just getting stupid now. Make them all shoot ProRes and be done with it already. It's becoming a battle of who can have the least difficult codec to work with that otherwise flattens out colors and adds motion artifacting. Noahby NoahK - Café LA

Sometimes this used to happen whenever a DV or similar device was connected. Just happens randomly. But if you can repeat it on command- send in a bug report. Noahby NoahK - Café LA

Most definitely you'll get more streams with a faster processor, more RAM and faster hard drives. But XDCAM is one of those codecs that requires a lot of processing power so once you start tossing oddles of streams and effects onto it you'll get bogged down ultimately... Noahby NoahK - Café LA

I wouldn't completely discount the opinion of the DP. You don't want to force the editor's decisions onto the DP, especially if they're vehemently in disagreement. That results in a grumpy DP who shoots less enthusiastically- or you shop around for a DP more in step with the production on a technical level. If you simply played that out to a DV deck through Firewire from FCP it would add the proper pulldown and be good to go. Drop it into a 24p DV sequence and render if needed. Noahby NoahK - Café LA
