Cachefly to the rescue? Noahby NoahK - Café LA Where's the Supermag 2010? - 14 years agoWasn't there supposed to be a Supermag for 2010 NAB Supermeet? Can't find it on the site. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: OT: monitoring and the end of CRT? - 14 years agoDo you have any actual actual experience using a Dreamcolor in a color grading suite as I do or are you just saying that based on your looking over the specs and staring in disbelief? I'm not asking you to agree with me opinion here but at least give me the respect of having hands-on experience with this particular piece of gear. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: OT: monitoring and the end of CRT? - 14 years agoYou can go component into the Dreamcolor from a Kona card and it rocks. These are in lots of color grading suites. Believe me I used to be a CRT purist as well but if you've actually seen one of these working with Scratch or a Color suite you'll realize they are a great option. And I say that without any reason to other than personal opinion because I'm not an HP dealer. Now I'm not saying aby NoahK - Café LA Re: Reference Speakers for Training - 14 years agoGenelec is also a solid brand for decent speakers. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Display Monitors - 14 years agoOne thing is they require DisplayPort- so no good for older machines without an adapter. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: OT: monitoring and the end of CRT? - 14 years agoI dunno about 50K- the HP Dreamcolor LCDs are totally usable for color grading and they're more like $2-3K. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Reference Speakers for Training - 14 years agoI like Bose speakers for semi cheap laptop speakers. Also Audio Engine makes some affordable stuff in that range. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: AVCHD footage jittery after log and capture - 14 years agoYeah when you say jittery do you mean frames are being dropped or you are seeing overlapping fields? -Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Protools users group - 14 years agoYeah that sounds lazy in terms of official forum support- but then again what else is there besides ProTools for serious post sound? Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Safe To Use Snow Leopard With FCS3 Yet? - 14 years agoYeah depends what you have in mind- I'm running it with RED footage with no issues. But say if I wanted to transfer P2 footage with a duel adapter- that would be a heck no to upgrading. And truth be told there's little new in SL that affects FCP from a general user's POV. In other words you're not missing anything big... Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Canon intros MPEG-2 Full HD codec for future pro camera (FCP compatible) - 14 years agoYeah it's just getting stupid now. Make them all shoot ProRes and be done with it already. It's becoming a battle of who can have the least difficult codec to work with that otherwise flattens out colors and adds motion artifacting. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Protools users group - 14 years agoThis is my favorite 'mod tone' link for Google. Use with caution though, it's incredibly snarky: -Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Weird: Hiding FCP makes it inaccessible again - 14 years agoSometimes this used to happen whenever a DV or similar device was connected. Just happens randomly. But if you can repeat it on command- send in a bug report. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: RT and system correlation - 14 years agoMost definitely you'll get more streams with a faster processor, more RAM and faster hard drives. But XDCAM is one of those codecs that requires a lot of processing power so once you start tossing oddles of streams and effects onto it you'll get bogged down ultimately... Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Taking a big hit in quality - 14 years agoUm yeah but the DVD will be MPEG2 no matter what you feed it... Noahby NoahK - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: OT: Delivering drafts for the client - 14 years agoHmm- maybe I'm being cynical but I'm guessing if you didn't write OT and begged for your thread to not be moved it would have stayed in FCP. Lord knows a lot of other way less appropriate stuff stays in there and who cares anyway because it's still there with the MOVED link... Rant off. Noahby NoahK - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: cutting with 30fps(Cannon H.264) and 25fps(Z100) - 14 years agoI wouldn't completely discount the opinion of the DP. You don't want to force the editor's decisions onto the DP, especially if they're vehemently in disagreement. That results in a grumpy DP who shoots less enthusiastically- or you shop around for a DP more in step with the production on a technical level. It's supposed to be a colloboration between all departments arbitrated by producers and diby NoahK - Café LA Re: Hard drive Recovery - 14 years agoHmm not sure about the go-to guy in Santa Monica. If it's really important (because it'll cost ya up to $2K) then you want to send it here: -Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: cutting with 30fps(Cannon H.264) and 25fps(Z100) - 14 years agoYeah what the heck- why do people shoot themselves in the foot like this in production? Fix it in post is not the answer... Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: OT: Delivering drafts for the client - 14 years agoPrivate Vimeo or YouSendIt file works best for me- secure and good playback.by NoahK - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: 24p to NTSC 29.97 - 14 years agoIf you simply played that out to a DV deck through Firewire from FCP it would add the proper pulldown and be good to go. Drop it into a 24p DV sequence and render if needed. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Audio Sync question - 30p & 24p - 14 years agoYeah the 7D shoots 24p so- why aren't you just shooting 24p instead of yourself in the foot? Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: OT: Blu-ray on Macs soon? Don't hold your breath. - 14 years agoAnd don't forget- we have 3D Blu-Ray coming this summer from Sony and Panasonic. So that means buying a new player, TV/projector and rebuying any movies you have that are coming in a new 3D version.... YAY! Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Alpha channel proRes 4444 difficulty - 14 years agoOr could just as easily be something fixed in 7.01 that breaks compatibility from 7.0.by NoahK - Café LA Re: Instant Final Cut Server expert - 14 years agoHA HA HA- as long as it talks like Twiki I'll be satisfied. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Instant Final Cut Server expert - 14 years agoOr sometimes even with full training.... Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Alpha channel proRes 4444 difficulty - 14 years agoWell if the guy has a workaround I don't see the harm in waiting -but yes I'd guess a versioning issue. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Alpha channel proRes 4444 difficulty - 14 years agoI suspect once you finally upgrade the laptop the problem will go away... Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Alpha channel proRes 4444 difficulty - 14 years agoWhy not upgrade the laptop- it's never a good idea to exchange FCP projects between disparate versions anyway.
