I seem to remember using it for exactly the same thing a few years agoby JTProds - Café LA Re: playback and capture issues HDV - 9 years agoYes - this works. I had to do the same thing last year with an entire tape (a continuous seminar recording). The tape would only play back without dropouts using the camera's (XLH1) slow motion mode. I set FCP to non-controllable device and hit capture now, then I played back the tape in slo-mo. I seem to remember I had to keep hitting the play button on the camera to keep it playing - maybby JTProds - Café LA Re: Arabic Text - 12 years agoI had this problem recently and one of our Graphic Designers saved me by directing me to the following website... Go to Then you can paste the Arabic into the top box and copy it from the bottom box. (I found the button on the website didn't always work -use CMD+C) Then you can paste the text into Photoshop text layers and export as .png or .psd One important thing to bear in mind:by JTProds - Café LA Re: EFX Handling the shadows - 13 years agoIt looks like you also might have a problem with the lead singer's mic cable intruding into your (screen) left crop... From what I can see, rotoscope (in the sense of precise, keyframed masking) is not going to be necessary here; you just need to draw a feathered bezier or b-spline to mask out your trouble spots. If you take the keyboard player's shadow as an example, I'd image if you feathby JTProds - Café LA Re: Recommedations for Batch Resizing of quicktime videos - 13 years agoTo confirm, you're wanting to make lower resolution editing proxies to make the cut and then reconnnect to the original media? MPEGStreamclip has a batch function (Cmd+B) that might do it for you. www.squared5.comby JTProds - Café LA Re: Red Workflow - 13 years agoI normally generate low res offlines with RedRushes, edit, then use Clipfinder to replace the prores offlines with R3Ds before grading in Color. Sorry if this is obvious advice but the one immutable fact I've gleaned from researching RED workflow is that there are a lot of opinions and options around!by JTProds - Café LA Re: DVD camcorder and Video_TS - 13 years agoHave you by any chance upgraded to Snow Leopard? Follow this link to see how to reinstall the Mpeg2 component: (Roll over the "Snow Leopard and MPEG-2 Playback Component" heading.) Hope this helps.... Jamesby JTProds - Café LA Re: OT: Remote Monitoring of JVC GY-HM100U -- Component to Firewire Converter??? - 14 years agoI'm only suggesting this because it is a (nearly) zero budget option... Can you get a webcam aimed at the JVC's LCD screen? Or indeed at an external LCD/Portable DVD player connected to the JVC's AV output? OK it's not going to be great but provided you get the whole LCD within the webcam's frame you will be able to check framing and have some idea of lighting/WB. Another advantage is yoby JTProds - Café LA Re: how can I make the psd layers visible? - 14 years agoAgreed Derek -and a specific example: When I only had Photoshop 5 (PC version), the .psd files it created only showed as single layer in FCP. When I got Photoshop CS3 (Mac Version), not only did .psd files created in CS3 import into FCP as multi-layer but I could open and re-save the PC .psd files in CS3 and then they would import as multi-layer in FCP. I've never tried with a laterby JTProds - Café LA Re: Re-capturing ProRes (from HDV tapes) - 14 years agoThanks Jeff -that makes sense. For projects where I've used this workflow I'll stick to keeping backups of the ProRes files.by JTProds - Café LA Re-capturing ProRes (from HDV tapes) - 14 years agoHi All, For certain types of project, I use to capture a whole HDV tape as ProRes, from the very start of the tape (via Firewire). (Respectfully, I'd prefer not to discuss the pros and cons of this workflow -it works for me for certain projects.) My question is... If I rewind the tape to the beginning and use again to recapture (assuming the original capture is now offline) am I guaraby JTProds - Café LA Re: How do I make .flv(flash video) file from a quicktime .mov? - 15 years agoThen you could use a .flv downloader (e.g. Moyea) to download the .flv file for yourself. Or in fact there is a way to do it with Firefox... In Firefox, just go to the page the vid is uploaded, wait for it to buffer completely. Go to Tools>Page Info>Media and find the file that is a .flv, highlight it and . N.B. it doesn't always work!by JTProds - Café LA Re: Cmd+W (or File>Close) closing inspector instead of project - 15 years agoOK, thanks Mark. Still seems a bit odd to me. I can understand why Cmd+W would do that but surely File>Close should close the file -unless Motion thinks each window open is a different file!!by JTProds - Motion Cmd+W (or File>Close) closing inspector instead of project - 15 years agoHi, Has anyone else seen this? I've had the problem since Motion 2 (now on Motion 3.02) Often, if I have the Inspector highlighted, when I try to close the current project only the inspector closes and the project remains open. Not the end of the world I guess but really annoying when you're changing one attribute in a load of files. BTW I trash Motion's preferences more often thanby JTProds - Motion Re: MP4 (320x240) to FCP (1440x1080) timeline?? - 15 years agoOr (and sorry if it's getting too complicated) use 2 instances of the footage: One as Derek suggested (small image in the centre of screen -maybe with a border). Then underneath it, one fullscreen, blurred (Gaussian Blur) and desaturated (Colour Correction>Lower the saturation).by JTProds - Café LA Re: CONTOUR DESIGN ShuttlePRO: Any lovers or haters? - 15 years agoI've had one for about a year and I find if I 'm editing in someone else's studio I do quite miss it. 3 issues I've found: 1) It does not sit flat on the desk and it tends to slip around -some extra rubber feet sorted that one. 2) As the jog/shuttle commands are sent as repeated keypresses the playhead often carries on moving long after you've stopped spinning the wheel -then you spin it bby JTProds - Café LA Re: FX Plug Effects fail to render on MacBook Pro 15" - 15 years agoI guess it must a result of the different graphics card then Tom -thanks for the confirmation.by JTProds - Café LA Re: FX Plug Effects fail to render on MacBook Pro 15" - 15 years agoTom, I have tried both with and without the MXO and using Opt+R -no luck. Just to be sure I'm explaining properly, I'm only getting the error message when I try to render FX Plug effects in the Prores timeline -all other effects render ok. >The default render settings for an 8 bit sequence is to render in 8 bits.< Sorry -that is my error -I realise now I was changing the compressor tby JTProds - Café LA Re: FX Plug Effects fail to render on MacBook Pro 15" - 15 years agowayne granzin Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > wow - i wonder if the 17 would have the same > issue? (ProRes422 Timeline, MXO/23"ACD, FCP6.05, 3GB Ram, ATI Radeon X1600 256MB) I have been getting a "Cannot be rendered with the current graphics card" error so I searched the forum and came up wiby JTProds - Café LA Re: looking for a personal use "handycam-ish" camera... - 15 years agoI second the HV30 (which I also use as a VTR for my XLH1!). Great price and really good images for the size. The other day I was testing some new lights I got for chromakey background lighting and I just grabbed my HV30 instead of getting out the XLH1. Captured then viewed on a 23" ACD via MXO the images look really good. Plus the HDMI out might be useful and certainly a cheaper uncompresby JTProds - Café LA Re: Pulling fonts from logos (maybe never asked before) - 15 years agoI know you found another solution but here's something I did... >make the 4 or five characters available to motion so that behaviors can be applied. < I had to do exactly this recently. All I had was a .gif of the logo and I couldn't find the font with Identifont (for example). So I imported the .gif into a Motion Project and traced round the letters with bezier shapes. I've had a look at MovieMaker (Vista Home Premium) and it seems to only capture to avi and wmv unfortunately.by JTProds - Café LA O.T. Capturing to DVPAL .mov on a PC - 15 years agoHi, I realise this is quite outside the scope normally covered here but I had a situation yesterday where my Mac was tied up rendering and I had access to 2 miniDV tapes only for a couple of hours in order to capture them. (I couldn't pause the rendering as that project had to go out that day!) I ended up copying the tapes using my deck and my XLH1 but that meant I then had to capture theby JTProds - Café LA Re: Deleting Easy Setups - 15 years ago<if you want you can hack around in the Final Cut Pro x.x Prefs file in the ~/Library/Final Cut Pro User Data/ folder and try to excise the offending setup, but be sure to back it up first> I'll give it a cautious try -thanksby JTProds - Café LA Re: Deleting Easy Setups - 15 years agoPatient: Doctor, it hurts when I raise my arms above my head. Doctor: Well don't raise your arms then! Nevertheless, that is a good, pragmatic solution. So (just to make sure) are we saying there is no way to directly edit the Easy Setups list like you can with Sequence and Capture Presets? Jamesby JTProds - Café LA Re: Deleting Easy Setups - 15 years agoI will do so. I am fairly sure the last time I backed them up was before I got my MXO -the reason I was creating Easy Setups anyway. Oh well, I think I will wait until tomorrow when this project is safely out the door! Thanksby JTProds - Café LA Deleting Easy Setups - 15 years agoHi, can anyone help please? I saved an easy setup with an incorrect setting so I corrected the setting and saved again but I mistyped the Easy Setup Name (idiot!). Now I have 2 very similarly named Easy Setups and I keep selecting the wrong one from the list. I tried searching for the Easy Setup and Spotlight directed me to Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Suby JTProds - Café LA Re: OT: Leica Video - 15 years agoI love the bit where the camera is panning left off Dr Kaufmann (about 1/3 of the way through) and just as he is about to leave the frame he looks (rather mysteriously) at the camera -it feels like something from Police Squad or a Shaw Brothers film!! I was thinking while I was shooting the third day in a row of interviews this week of getting a baseball cap with "Not me, look into the leby JTProds - Café LA Re: HDV to 422 to Web... major issues - 15 years agoYou can always select in the movie properties in Quicktime -that is what I normally do.
