For some freelance projects, however, there's nobody to do that. I occasionally have to remove some noise, compress interview audio and voiceovers, and mixdown voice with music in a way that doesn't suck. And mostly, it has been sucking. A lot. Are therby plugues - Café LA Cutting using media stored in a Windows 7 share: doable? - 9 years agoI'm trying to setup a simple workflow using a Macbook Pro for editing, plugged to LAN via ethernet RJ-45, and a Windows 7 desktop computer with two big Raid arrays that are being shared via wired connection. So far it's been faulty, and I can't reliably edit on Final Cut. The media will disconnect a bunch of times, I'll get timeouts, and even Finder will crash. The network connection is cleby plugues - Café LA Re: FCP7 and After Effects Windows: best codec? - 9 years agoCinemartin's seems to be on my budget, I'll give it a try, thanks. I find it strange that there doesn't appear to be a perfect native solution with already available codecs. Isn't it common for people to work with those two platforms?by plugues - Café LA FCP7 and After Effects Windows: best codec? - 9 years agoI still do a lot of FCP7 editing using Apple ProRes codec on my Mac. Since I recently acquired a very fast PC, I plan on using it for work on After Effects CS6 (soon CC). I'll be moving rendered files from FCP7 to AE and vice-versa. I noticed AE on Windows lacks the ProRes codec. I've tried rendering in AE using Lossless in both QT and AVI but when importing to FCP there's a very noticeable cby plugues - Café LA FCP7 and AfterEffects-WINDOWS: best codec? - 10 years agoI'm about to start working on a project that files will transit from FCP7 to AE on a Windows 7 machine and vice-versa. What should I look into codecs-wise? I'm sure my usual darlings ProRes and AIC on QuickTime won't do me much good. There's QT on Windows, but AFAIK no ProRes. QT Animation appears to work just fine, but file sizes are huge. What's the common practice here? Cheersby plugues - Café LA AIFF problem - 13 years agoI've been having some problems with .AIFF files on FCP 7.0.3. When syncing these AIFF files with a reference in-camera audio I get a delay even though the waveforms are PERFECTLY aligned. This does not happen, however, if I use .WAV, even though it's all 48Khz/16-bit. Route is Mp3->AIF on Compressor / MP3->WAV on Quicktime Player. What could be wrong? Cheersby plugues - Café LA Best editable video format for PGM delivery - 13 years agoHi, It has recently become part of my duties to deal with MPEG2 files on a daily basis, and as I'm sure you'll all agree, editing with MPEG2 video as a source is a pain. It's rare they I'm asked to perform serious edits on these files, so I've been dealing just fine using MPEG Streamclip for the occasional trim and the removal of some video segments, hoping that the GOP structure won't get inby plugues - Café LA Re: Help! Audio Lag on 23.98 sequence - 13 years agoJeff, with the waveform. Suppose you have a beep in the audio track, if you scrub over the waveform at the precise point, you'll hear the beep right? This works fine on all editing timebases but 23.98 This also means if I add video it's out of sync on 23.98.by plugues - Café LA Re: Help! Audio Lag on 23.98 sequence - 13 years agoOK, if this is not a nasty bug, I don't know what is. Suppose I create a brand new sequence from scratch and add nothing but this audio clip, then I try the following steps, keeping every other setting but editing timebase: - if editing timebase is set to 30, audio corresponds to waveform - same for 29.97 - same for 25 - same for 24 - PROBLEM if it's 23.98. audio lags FCP version isby plugues - Café LA Help! Audio Lag on 23.98 sequence - 13 years agoMy audio is lagging on a 23.98 timebase sequence. Even if I create a new one, add no video, only audio (it's 17 min long) it lags behind its own waveform, noticeably after the 5 min mark and VERY noticeable after the 10 min mark. If I create a 30p sequence, audio is fine and corresponds normally to its waveform. It's definitely not the rate, because both sequence and file are 48khz. Whby plugues - Café LA Best way to capture content on DVD Video - 14 years agoWhat's the best way to capture content on DVD video? So far we've been using a standalone player and an Osprey capture card, but my guess is that's not the best way to do this, since you have to wait for the DVD to be played in its entirety, and you're converting the digital video to an analog format (output via RCA/Scart cable) and back to digital on the capture card. Is it better, in term ofby plugues - Café LA Encoding software tip - 14 years agoMy company's in need of an encoder pack that supports multiple formats. Something like Compressor, but for Windows. The catch: it has to support Real Media (.rm) video. Ideally, we could really use something that would convert .VOB files directly from a DVD to many formats (mpg, rm, wmv). Any tips appreciated!by plugues - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: External Video - Broken? - 14 years agoapparently this can be solved by replacing the file DesktopVideoout.component from version 7.0.1 with the file that originaly came with 7.0. how can that be done without an extensive and lengthy reinstallation process?by plugues - Café LA Re: FCP 7.01 broke my Desktop Preview! - 14 years agoOSX 10.5.8, FCP 7.0.1, 7300GT video card, QuickTime 7.6.4 desktop preview is also broken here.by plugues - Café LA External Video - Broken? - 14 years agoIs External Video broken in version 7.0.1? I can't get any sequence to be displayed on my second monitor using cmd+f12, and I've checked "All Frames", refreshed a/v devices and restarted the computer. It's a regular computer monitor (dual display), and I'm used to cutting while watching the results in full screen. What could be wrong?by plugues - Café LA Separate Audio Track - 14 years agoIs it possible to join audio and video using compressor? I'm not talking about sync, just muxing. Got a bunch of clips separated from the audio, and I need to join them, that's all. If compressor can't do it, how can I do that in a batch process? Problem is i had already sync'd all my clips dragging audio and video to a "problematic" Sync sequence, so basically now I have an edited video with out of sync audio. Basically I have to re-sync everything using new perfect 30p sequences and create new master clips. For this to work, first I have to make the raw audio and video indeby plugues - Café LA Audio sync issued - 5dm2 - 14 years agoI'm having some weird audio sync issues. My syncing method is currently to merge clips on FCP (is there a better one?). Now, for some reason, after a couple of mins of video, audio starts to go gradually out of sync, and after 5 min it's totally off. I've checked the sampling rate and it's 48Khz on the clips and on the timeline. Sometimes I want to switch apps (cmd+tab), you know, email, msn, the usual, but everytime I do this I lose sound from the video. So I'm guessing I want an external program to watch video.
