Click HERE to register now exports are all squeezed vertically - FCP 5.1.4 - 8 years agoHi; far from a video editor (sound guy who does basic stuff in video) - Working on a project I shot with my phone and everything looks fine video aspect ratio wise as I'm working and even in the preview window for outputs (have tried Quicktime, Compressor and various settings). But yet the final output is ALWAYS squeezed vertically. Any hints? Thanksby SoundDude - Café LA Re: New user "how do I quickly move between spots in my timeline?" - 8 years agoI figured the easiest was to create custom quick-keys for moving to next/previous marker and just moved markers along where I needed to. Thanks.by SoundDude - Adobe Premiere Pro CC New user "how do I quickly move between spots in my timeline?" - 8 years agoHi folks; real newbie question here -- I'm editing a 6hr presentation down to selected clips and building at the end of the current timeline in the suggested in-house format (rather than just putting clips into another sequence) and I'm finding myself wasting---sorry, 'expending' time trying to find my way back to the sliver of an edit that I was at prior to taking the clip to the end of the timeby SoundDude - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: Codecs for Export in 23.98 / 29.97? - 14 years agoI just looked in the apple system preferences (AND also see what you said under QuickTime preferences within QT itself), under QuickTime, from information given by another colleague. Sys Pref has Register, Browser, Update, Streaming, Advanced. In Advanced is Default Synth and Transport Setup. Enable Kiosk. MIME Settings. Media Keys. Too much trouble for me to keep up with it. I'm not the editby SoundDude - Café LA Re: Unusual Audio Sample Rate - 14 years agoThat it "pulled down" audio rate -- usually happens after a telecine step. You should still be able to use it, no? You won't hear the difference by .01% the only thing that 'might' happen if it is a long take or segment, is that video sync might be off. But then what do I know. I'm a sound dude. Jeffby SoundDude - Café LA Re: Codecs for Export in 23.98 / 29.97? - 14 years agoI am on QT7 Pro. My preferences options are General, Fullscreen, Recording. That's it. Oh well-- I'm not a video guy. Not my problem. (chuckle) Nick--your sound folks didn't care if you threw a window burn on your picture? Sucks to be THEM! I insist on a window burn and 2-pop/tail pop. The thing goes out of sync after it leaves my platform... again, "not my problem" Hahby SoundDude - Café LA Re: Codecs for Export in 23.98 / 29.97? - 14 years agoThanks, Nick. I'm copying/pasting that info into a document I'll keep on hand. Strypes-- are you talking the standalone QT player? Which version? I'm not seeing any Advanced options in mine--version 7.0.0 which is a stable release for our purposes. Nick-- my limited skills in Final Cut-- so you'd create a new sequence, go to your sequence settings, set M- JPEG-A in there, then drag your oby SoundDude - Café LA Re: Codecs for Export in 23.98 / 29.97? - 14 years agoThanks--I appreciate all the responses, guys. Personally, I'm aware of the processor-stress when handling a codec plus 120 tracks of audio, and yes we audio personnel stick with machines that work, hahaha (ie: older). I'm still not getting the answer to my original question, as to whether the two codecs I mentioned (which are my receivable requirements) Motion JPEG-A, and DV/DVCPRO are availabby SoundDude - Café LA Re: Codecs for Export in 23.98 / 29.97? - 14 years agoThanks for the info. I'm really surprised anyone is using an Mpeg4 (surely not H.264?) for sound work. DV / MJPEG-A have been the most common for users of Pro Tools I've spoken with. All I know is what does not work for us and H.264 is definitely a no-go for us. Anyway...by SoundDude - Café LA Re: Codecs for Export in 23.98 / 29.97? - 14 years agoSorry-- it is kind of irrelevant because my base question is just if those two codecs are available in the different timebases, but: "friendliest" was in reference to use with Pro Tools. Those are the two codecs we ask for when product comes in. And because I just had someone tell me they couldn't do an MJPEG-A, I had to come looking for answers. I know it used to be an option in theby SoundDude - Café LA Codecs for Export in 23.98 / 29.97? - 14 years agoHi folks; Mr. Sound Guy here again asking a pretty basic question, I'm sure: For our Pro Tools, we have found Apple Motion JPEG-A and DV/DVCPRO to be friendliest but I've been told in newer versions of Final Cut that Motion JPEG-A is no longer available? Or is as a Legacy Codec? Can someone please give me information on whether those two codecs are available in both 23.98 and 29.97 editingby SoundDude - Café LA Re: 23.976 vs 24 OMFs - 14 years agoYes, there's a local guy here who has created quite a dailies/rushes workflow for himself (and has connections with the RED folks) which is nice because he also rents the cameras. He's a bit of a computer programming geek and has his entire network crunching things I think 40x real time. No, I agree---it isn't (doesn't seem?) inherently more or less complex (I think...again, I'm a SoundDude)by SoundDude - Café LA Re: 23.976 vs 24 OMFs - 14 years agoI agree---RED is a 'work in progress' at the best of times. And that's coming from a SoundDude... I'd love to go down to the set, sidle up to the DP and say "sayyyy, mind if I peek at your viewfinder for a moment?" It is his first time shooting RED, but it will right there in the upper left corner of the monitor. And we were all told to work 23.976 across the board. But we'll see.by SoundDude - Café LA Re: 23.976 vs 24 OMFs - 14 years agoThanks, Jeff. That's it exactly---the online conform house is the same place handling RED rushes and transfers so they might be doing things to make their life 'easier' in the end and just not letting the rest of the players know? It is being investigated right now by the post supervisor. I just wanted to ask since I'm working on the project right now. But film would shoot at 24 fby SoundDude - Café LA 23.976 vs 24 OMFs - 14 years agoHi, folks. Video question from a sound guy again. Working on a project that had OMF come in to Pro Tools as 24fps. Quicktime picture supplied is 23.976 and the entire project is supposed to be shooting in 23.976 on the RED, 23.976 for sound, 23.976 for video and audio post. So my radar went "bing!" when the OMF opened at 24fps. Of course, when I do a test personally, with bby SoundDude - Café LA Which version allowed audio level export to OMF? - 14 years agoHi folks. As an audio editor/mixer, I have a question: which version of Final Cut began allowing volume levels to be exported in OMFs? I know the most recent version does (6.0.5?), but wondering when the change started so I can begin to inform clients about using levels. Thanks very much. -Jfriahby SoundDude - Café LA Re: Time Code Window Burn start time??? - 16 years agoNick- Thanks for that, but way ahead on the QT Sync. That's the reasoning for my last couple posts: why couldn't it just be this simple all the time?!?!?! QT Sync is what we used to hit our spotting session on time with a window burn. Thanks to all the pro FCP users out there who gave tips and tricks for this window burn headache!!!by SoundDude - Café LA Re: Time Code Window Burn start time??? - 16 years agoSorry, Jude and J.; needing the TC for a reason 'other than sync'? I'm a sound editor / re-recording mixer. Sync is God... so to speak. It just so happens that I'm trying to CREATE a burn, plain and simple. The editor on this project was unable to do so (unaware how to do this) so for two reasons, I'm trying to get an easy way to do this: 1) for our own spotting session with clients, and 2)by SoundDude - Café LA Re: Time Code Window Burn start time??? - 16 years agoOh Fudge. I think I got it. a) set session start time in FCP b) import picture c) drag it to timeline d) select all in timeline; Nest Items e) switch Browser to Effects f) select Time Code Reader and drag it onto "(nested title)" video track in timeline That works. Any other 'tricks'? This one seems to work with me. I'm writing that one down now!by SoundDude - Café LA Re: Time Code Window Burn start time??? - 16 years agoNesting: select All, select 'nest'. Did that. Tried the blank text method. Perhaps a difference in versions of FCP but couldn't get that to do anything. For me, and for anyone who needs to address such issues as dealing with a video with no burn, QT Sync is the easiest, fastest way. Serves our purposes perfectly. HOWEVER---I would still like to figure out how to create a 'useful' window burby SoundDude - Café LA Re: Time Code Window Burn start time??? - 16 years agoSORRY! "Voila!" (phrase/figure of speech: French) ie: "Presto!" / "Aha!" Meaning QT Sync worked wonders!by SoundDude - Café LA Re: Time Code Window Burn start time??? - 16 years agoHi, Derek. I just did it again. a) brought in my picture b) applied filter (TCR) c) COPY filter d) change sequence start time e) PAST filter ....00:00:00:00 I'm a sound editor...I'm not supposed to understand how to do this, but c'mon! I don't get it. I wish Apple/FCP would just use the easy technique QT Sync used and voila. Any other hints? I did it once about a year ago, bby SoundDude - Café LA Re: Time Code Window Burn start time??? - 16 years agoNaw, no good. I tried changing the sequence start time to 09:58:00:00 as is the case here and TCR still shows from 0:00:00:00. The TCG setting adjusting frame and hour offset works but trial and error to figure out which is your correct count! C'mon there has to be a better way, Apple! Any other suggestions?by SoundDude - Café LA Time Code Window Burn start time??? - 16 years agoHi! I'm a novice FCP user (full time audio post editor---ducking the bottles and cans...) who can generate a window burn in FCP 5.1 but: is there a way to create a burn that has a different start time than O OO OO OO? ie: The session start is 00:58:00:00 for this project and the counter still runs 00:00:00:00 onward. Is there a way to change the start time/punch in some kind of offset?by SoundDude - Café LA |
