Hi, I've been dealing with some HDV decks at work that seem to operate fine, but fcp won't recognize them. I have checked whether I am doing anything wrong about a thousand times, tried shutting down and restarting the systems, etc. To further the strangeness, originally two of the "broken" decks worked fine (fcp had no problem recognizing them). Hi, I'm wondering if there is a plug in for fcp that will allow final cut to automatically start logging three minutes from the time code break when it's marked a few frames shy of three seconds. If there is, that would make my life much easier then having to spend the time going back and forth to make sure that I marked the start point after the three second mark.by healdsburger - Café LA
exporting changes audio levels - 16 years ago
I am exporting a small mpeg4 movie to email producers and something strange started happening today. When I export fcp changes the audio level on two of the clips. It either jacks one of the levels way up or cranks the other way down. Do I need to trash my preferences or is something else the matter?by healdsburger - Café LA

I am having an issue where I can play XDCam HD quicktime footage on my computer, but the lead editor can't play it on his computer. We are running FCP 6.0.0 and I am looking for the codec download that will allow him to play it. I cannot find a link to it anywhere on the Sony site and have tried the suggestions above. Weird, The producer I'm working for doesn't ftp and wants me to email a cut to her for review. Does anyone know how to do this. She said to compress it so that it is 10 megabites, which to me seems impossibly small for watching. Any suggestions?by healdsburger - Café LA

I just installed Linotype FontExplorer X per JK's suggestion. When i was installing it, I made the mistake of selecting, "move fonts" and now photoshop can't find any fonts. How can I fix this?by healdsburger - Café LA

A director I am working for shot a scene outside in the afternoon with no light reflectors, so a bunch of the footage is seriously backlit. I know how to fix this in Photoshop with still images, so I assume there is way in FCP or color. Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.by healdsburger - Café LA

That "@#$%&" makes what I said sound a lot worse... also "@#$%&" doesn't rhyme too well with kitty. So, I just spent an hour with Apple Care jumping through hoops only to be told at the end of it that Apple is aware of the problem and that there isn't currently a work around for dealing with it. Their recommendation: Don't close the lid of the Macbook Pro and call uby healdsburger - Café LA

I have now installed Leopard four times on my macbook pro and keep getting the same issue. When I shut my Macbook Pro to use only my 30 in. Mac display my Computer stops responding. Sometimes the Display does come alive, but only in the dual monitor mode, so there is no menu bar or dock. When I open the display on the Macbook Pro again the screen is either completely black or there is a window tby healdsburger - Café LA

Thanks Joe, I imagine by "wipe it" you mean do another erase/reinstall of the whole system. Will do. This will be my fourth time doing it. I started out with an upgrade (buggy), then an archive/install (still buggy), then the erase/install/transfer (slightly less buggy), so hopefully the fourth time will be the charm.by healdsburger - Café LA

Duh... Thanks, Shane. You saved me a huge headache and a pain in my gas hole (driving home). Tonight I'm going to take your suggestion to re-install all my apps. Can I just uninstall the ones I transferred and then reinstall from the disks or should I do another erase/reinstall of the whole system? Thanks x10by healdsburger - Café LA

Hey Shane, Thanks. I went to my System ID and opened it, but I am not sure which is the serial#. On the 8th line from the top their is a long "number" with a lot of upper and lower-case letters, digits and forward slashes. I thought this was it but when I tried it (using copy/paste) FCP says it is the wrong Serial#. I tried putting in dashes instead of the forward slashes, but stillby healdsburger - Café LA

I performed an erase/install of Leopard last night and then transfered over my old settings, accts, apps and everything else from my old sytem that I had stored on an external drive. I left for work today, before logging into FCP and now i am greated by a window that wants me to re-enter my serial # and acct. info. Is there anyway to find this on my old system (stored on my G-drive) without drivby healdsburger - Café LA

Hi all, While there are plenty of threads that deal with external storage, I can't seem to find one that discuss how to link back up to fcp templates, themes, etc. stored externally. Recently, I installed leopard and to free up more space for it I moved some DVD studio pro items onto an external hard drive. I am making my way through Michael Wohl's "Beyond the Basics FCP 6" book and I have run into a problem. Wohl says to loop the playback while adjusting the parameters of the Compressor/Limiter filter. Trouble is whenever I do this while looping, keyframes get set instead of applying the adjustment to the entire clip. Is there anyway to stop keyframes from being set?by healdsburger - Café LA

oops "reel." I dont spel so good. So casting offices would still view it on a crappy DVD player and crappier TV? I would have imagined they would pop it into a computer or have a flat screen by now. So how long until there is a significant price drop in Blu-Ray players? I'm assuming someone who doesn't have one, like me, should still wait a few months or a year till the prices come down and the BR players become better due to all the companies now only competing against each other to make the best BR player for less $$$.by healdsburger - Café LA

Hey Loren, I am currently using two G-drives - one for back up and one containing the project files and set as the scratch disk. By "separate scratch disks" do you mean separate from the boot drive or do you mean separate from where I keep the project files? The G-drive I operate from has 100 gbs of 300 free, which seems ample enough. The corrupted file was having issues onby healdsburger - Café LA
