If you can get the install disc into your computer, do a hardware test and find out where the culprit is. Good luck!by camshaft - Café LA Re: Repair shops near Ventura County? Dog lifted leg! - 14 years agoThanks for your responses, people. I replaced two of the ram modules, got to a hardware test which reported everything fine, started up off of external drive, ran Disk Utility which reported bad volume, tried CC Cloner but could not clone, so back to Disk Utility, erase disk, THEN cloned, and right now it was successful. So, hopefully I will start up and get running smoothly again. It's nicby camshaft - Café LA Repair shops near Ventura County? Dog lifted leg! - 14 years agoHi, all, G5 Dual on floor, lots of ram, upgraded video card, second internal hard drive, classic........... and my new dog frigging peed on it!! Got inside and onto fans, drops on mother board, and one ram module, and lord knows what else. Have taken it apart and cleaned what I could find with rubbing alcohol. Cannot get far with video displays sometimes coming up, then computer freezing,by camshaft - Café LA Re: OT: OSX.6 - 'Snow Leopard' due next year - 15 years ago<<Build yourself a "hackintosh">> How many folks have built a computer from scratch, and installed Mac OS as the operating system? Interesting, wouldn't have to depend on Apple for their choice of hardware. My son's best buddy at age 14 built himself a computer from scratch......14??!! Damn, if HE can do it, I should be able to figure this out. Any thoughts?by camshaft - Café LA Re: Compressing for the web FAST and BEST quality - 15 years agoMan, have things changed in just a few years. Wasn't so long ago that the questions were, "Is this for broadcast? No? How do you want it, Beta or VHS?" Calling different compression set-ups as a "recipe" is apt. Little of this, less of that, now, how's it look?by camshaft - Café LA Re: Compressing for the web FAST and BEST quality - 15 years agoMy two cents worth: I've had the best luck with this guide using Compressor. You can see my results: However, be ready for looooong compression sessions. One of those set it up at night, and post the next morning things.by camshaft - Café LA Re: encoding for the web - 16 years ago<< When I went through compressor the whole piece looked "washed out" >> When using Compressor, try playing with "Restore Black" "Restore White" and "Gamma". It makes a world of difference. I learned this from Philip Hodgetts "Encoding Recipes for the Internet". If you crop in compressor, it will also cut down on file size. It seems to be the least painful and most consistent.by camshaft - Café LA Re: Battle of the Bands - 16 years ago<<it seemed as tho who filmed it was scared to get in the face of the bands>> Well, I had my hands full at the time. My girlfriend was running the B cam (wide shot) and doesn't know anything about shooting, and I was starting out each bands performance by helping the guy on the mixer making sure he had the drum mics placed correctly before I picked up my camera and started shootinby camshaft - Show and Tell Battle of the Bands - 16 years agoMy son's musical department at the high school threw a battle of the bands for a fund raiser, and here's a video of performance excerpts. Yes, I'm ready for the flaming about the audio, BUT.....all of my microphones were used for the stage, and I was left with only camera mics. Thankfully STP was a help even with things being totally overmodulated. And kudos again to Nattress for his Filmby camshaft - Show and Tell Re: FCP to Avid help - 16 years agoI use the Avid keyboard when I space out and forget where a function is. Also handy to have your "Command Pallette" open if you want to remap a key or two. Opening the keyboard from Bins might also help. Avid doesn't go as deep into the keyboard as FCP does, not a lot past what is visible on the keyboard and using "Shift" combo.by camshaft - Café LA Re: Marching Band - 16 years agoWas able to edit initial post, never mind this, sorry.by camshaft - Show and Tell Marching Band - 16 years agoThought I'd share a video of my son's high school marching band. It started out as, "I need to get some of this on camera", and then the more I shot, the more involved I got. It took on a life of it's own. It's more for the parents, than a casual viewer, thus the long length. The half time performance is pretty long, so you may want to scroll through it. Most are grab shots, run-n-by camshaft - Show and Tell Re: Dealing with interview sound mixes in FCP - 16 years agoTo throw my two cents in: You didn't mention if your camera mic is the built in, or not. I use a shotgun mic on my camera, and for stand up interviews (working by myself, no sound person), getting within three feet of the subject, you will get pretty decent audio.by camshaft - Café LA Re: Major Thanks!!!!!! - 16 years agoI appreciate the thanks, but cannot take any credit for this. Shane found this, and posted his findings. I'm a Scotsman, so anywhere I can save a buck, I will. This workflow for archiving material just makes sense, plus, how cool is it that you can make use of a bare hard drive?by camshaft - Café LA Re: Major Thanks!!!!!! - 16 years agoSave your money, and buy the cheaper one. It works right out of the box, and Macs read it. Pops up on the desktop like any HD.by camshaft - Café LA Re: Major Thanks!!!!!! - 16 years agoHere's the link: For hard drives? I bought one from the same place, but, I'm sure there are other, maybe even cheaper places. If anyone knows of better HD suppliers, let us know.by camshaft - Café LA Major Thanks!!!!!! - 16 years agoI'm pretty sure it was Shane Ross who posted this tip. If I'm crediting the wrong person, please forgive me. I just got my USB to SATA/IDE power/connecter kit with my 200GB bare HD, and am archiving some material. Unbelievable!! $12 for the kit. $50 for a HD which is purring away, happy as you please. My girlfriend is blinking her eyes in shock, "But, what if you drop it? For those who have posted on YT, could you look in " My Account>My videos>edit video info" and see what sizes you have in the" Embed HTML" box? Is 425x350 the size for YT, or is it 425x318? Survey says!!!!!!! Thanksby camshaft - Café LA Re: YouTube recipe variations - 16 years agoI thought they were finished with the cross over. I did email YT and am waiting for their response. Will post if I find out anything.by camshaft - Café LA YouTube recipe variations - 16 years agoI know this has been beat to death, but, there seems to be a new question I put out to you all. I have worked with the Hodgetts recipe with success for non-YouTube video, and have read Brian Gary's article who brings up a point. YouTube wants the size to be 320x240 of which Hodgetts also uses in his recipe. However, Gary discovered that his videos were actually 425x318 after uploading.by camshaft - Café LA Re: re: My turn to get my tuchus kicked on YouTube - 16 years agoMy two cents worth. The Hodgetts version looks better. I know that I have had to play with the Gamma Correction, and BlackWhite Restore filters. He gives a good starting point, but I played with them even more, and it helped. I went to I think it's "Better" on the de-interlacing, and it made the compression time longer, but the file size was still small, and the quality was better.by camshaft - Café LA Re: LP footage......stuuuuuuupid! - 16 years agoOh, yeah, been there, done that. How about twenty minutes recording the inside of a camera bag!!? Again, stuuuuuuuuuupid.by camshaft - Café LA Re: LP footage......stuuuuuuupid! - 16 years agoThanks, guys for the input. It always amazes me how just ONE switch or menu item can throw things into the dumper.by camshaft - Café LA LP footage......stuuuuuuupid! - 16 years agoHi, all......and, yes, you can all have a good chuckle at my expense on this one! The only good thing is that I am the client, so no biggie. I am in the process of collecting footage of pre-game prep and half-time activity of my son's high school marching band during the season. While scrambling through the menu on my Panny DVX-100 I inadvertently switched to LP. My deck does not play LP, sby camshaft - Café LA Re: pivot in Motion2 - 16 years agoTom, It's v 2.12 Staying out of the heat, eh?by camshaft - Motion pivot in Motion2 - 16 years agoTrying to do a simple move of having a still "pivot" back and forth on a vertical axis (like hanging from a string) The only rotate is either clockwise or counter-clockwise in 2D. Am I not seeing something? Thanks!by camshaft - Motion Re: Cam Question for the cam page - 16 years agoThe blue hue is incorrect white balance......there is a switch on left side of the camera towards the bottom....there you'll find white balance A/B/Preset.....the Preset will toggle between 3200k and 5600k by the AWB button on front of camera, which gets you in the ball park......you can manually white balance by switching to either A or B, framing on a white piece of paper, and holding the AWB bby camshaft - Café LA Re: Cam Question for the cam page - 16 years agoThe auto iris function will move the iris so that the exposure is at a default level.....unless you are doing a lot of moving around, I would stay on manual, especially if it's a sit down interview.....if you are going for a shallow dof, set your exposure and leave it. I found the DVX100's auto functions pretty good except for the auto white balance, there is a definite lag. I only use auto wby camshaft - Café LA |
