It just might be what I have been looking for. This post started out with H.264 and went to the better (for FCP) AVCHD. Jack Lindauerby Jack Lindauer - Café LA Re: Canon SD960 Digital Camera - 15 years agoI'll keep researching for a $500 consumer HD camera that uses "flash cards", and that has files and a CODEC that I can import and edit in FCP. Does anyone know of a consumer standard def camcorder (Brand & Model), that uses "flash cards", that creates files that can be imported and edited in FCP6? Thanks All -- Jack Lindauerby Jack Lindauer - Café LA Re: Canon SD960 Digital Camera - 15 years agoIf I wanted to edit well, without any work-arounds, what codec should I look for in a consumer camera? Would AVCHD be a good codec? Or any other? Which brand name and model number (under $500) of consumer digital camera or camcorder should I be looking for? I am looking for something that has a "card", and not Mini DV tape. Thanks -- Jack Lindauerby Jack Lindauer - Café LA Re: Canon SD960 Digital Camera - 15 years agoI did not know that the H.264 codec does not work with FCP. It does, however, work with iMovie. Thanks for all the good information. I did a search (before I posted) on LAFCPUG for H.264 and got no results. Later, (after I posted), I did a search for H264 (no period between the H and 2) and got about 90 results. I found-out that H.264 is not an editing codec. In trying to run through this problem with other editors over the phone, checking settings, re-starting, and going through all the steps, the last thing we would have thought was; that it would be in the model of Apple keyboard one would be using. If I were to hook-up a second monitor, would I get a "DCDP - Full Screen" in that menu? Thanks -- Jack Lindauerby Jack Lindauer - Café LA Re: Full-Screen Playback - 16 years agoMystery solved!!! The secret depends on what style of keyboard you are using; The older traditional keyboard, or the newer Apple thin aluminum keyboard. 1. For the older style keyboard: View > Video Playback > Digital Cinema Desktop Preview - Main. Command, F12. This will take the image in the Canvas window and make it Full-Screen. 2. Again, thanks -- Jack Lindauerby Jack Lindauer - Café LA Re: Full-Screen Playback - 16 years ago(Follow-up to above post) About six months ago, I saw someone with a 15-inch MacBook Pro blow up the Canvas window to full screen, so people around him could see the image. At the time, I did not ask him how he did that, as I thought this was a common short cut key stroke. (Besides, he was busy editing). I know it can be done; just trying to find the secret key stroke. The iMac cannot edit uncompressed Standard Def (NTSC) or High Def, and cannot support an external RAID set of drives as it only has a Firewire 800 port. When I look at the display, I need to know if a scene has been shot too dark or too light. Some non-Apple displays alter the brightness if the display is tilted up or down. Get the 3.06 GHz model with the 512 MB graphics card. Also, get 4 GB of RAM (better for FCS2). Put your Operating System (it's already there) and FCS2 on the internal drive (the OS uses about 9 gigs, and FCS2 uses about 114 gigs of space on the drive), and all your captured footage and edited footage on an external Firewire 800 drive).
