I edit using my MBP all the time using DVCPRO HD and Pro Res 422. Best make sure you have adequate drive space and definitely consider getting an additional monitor. At least 22". Things can get a bit cramped on a 15" or 17" screen. Oh, eSata is very helpful, but when I use FW 800 I have not had any significant issues with playback.by Barry Rosenberg - Café LA

The definition of being a good editor encompasses so many different qualities, it is so hard to define in just a paragraph. Every post in this thread is essentially right. How the process works on Feature in Hollywood is not the same in a reality environment or commercials and in corporate/industrials. I've had problems with similar issues using HDV shot on a Sony HVR- V1U. I was used extensively on the beach and when captured using a different camera it would like your footage have playback issues. I would play it back on the camera it was recorded on and would have the same playback problems, but not in the exact same places. Dave, I am not far from where you are. I am in Westlake Village. Anyway, I use Pro Res 422 mostly. I cut lots of HDV and cut on a Pro Res timeline. Considering what it looks like before I edit it and when it airs on the network I do the series for it is more than suitable. Dgage, I use my MBP w/2.5ghz. Intel Core 2 duo, 4gigs ram, daily to edit HD Pro Res 422 or DVCProHD. I have to say I love it!. I have very little problems. The only issue is the occasional out of memory flag when I am doing way too much rendering and not closing other sequences on the timeline. I was assuming that, but was holding out some hope. So Strypes, what would you recommend as a proper workflow assuming the audio and video will be separated? Joey, my pleasure on the clip. When we shoot these things, inevitably there is always something that happens (usually things popping out that shouldn't), but never as classic as a gal getting nailed. I had no choice but to put it in the show. Share that clip with all those that would appreciate it. Anyway, I never thought of using Quicktime Pro for the conversion. For those that care. As an Editor, I am more or less a producer that does not receive credit as being one. I am also a caretaker/babysitter for someone's "baby". I don't get credit for that either.... usually. At times, I am a "Therapist", having to dispel distribution, marketing, marital, financial, medical and whatever else advice. I found the tech that worked for Gmax Solutions that went over to HDD Disk. He kept the HDD website in hopes he could make money as tech support. Anyway, I am most likely not going to get the drive replaced if in fact there is a problem with the components of the drive. Hopefully, it is just corruption in a partition and wiping it clean will do the job. It won't mount on the desktop, butby Barry Rosenberg - Café LA

Thanks for your help. I found what I was looking for in a different project. Derek, I do have it backed up on more than one drive and when the day is over, which seems like never, everything gets saved manually. I was looking for a specific sequence that could have been saved in any of 14 projects. Was wondering if a sequence could be found using the finder. I am running 6.06 on a MBP 2.5ghz 4gig ram. I know I cut this footage, I just know it. I am convinced I it lost in another project (or did I?) I just don't know which one. So I went through all the auto saved project of stuff that was worked on around the same time and nothing. Here is what I have done. I have my laptop connected to an external monitor via dvi. Mouse and Keyboard are set up via blue tooth. Separate user set just for the kids. The big thing is this: The laptop is closed and far enough away from the keyboard and mouse that when accidental spillage occurs, even I am guilty of it, the laptop itself is no where near the spill.by Barry Rosenberg - Café LA

Thank you Mods! Without this site, I would have had hypertension, heart problems, a divorce and more alcohol in my body than is necessary. I made the switch from Avid to FCP a little more than a year ago. After 10+ years of strictly being an "Avid" guy I took the plunge and am grateful for this site.
