And depending on the class, you also get VPN-license access to software for use in your classes during the term. I'll stop going on and on. But more than once I've paid a lot more for less up here in SF, CA.by fgiraffe - Café LA Re: What's the best place in LA to learn - 14 years agoQuoteFxphd is for motion graphics. No. If I were to do what you tried to do and grossly oversimplify what fxphd is I would say it is "the best bang for the buck visual effects and post-production training". Check the current course listing: fxphd courses October 2009. I took the DSLR Cinematography course last term and it was excellent.by fgiraffe - Café LA Re: Time & Date stamp from P2 card problem - 14 years agoOoo, double thread-jack alert: Just what conditions will reset the time of day clock on the HVX series of cameras? I would think that it would take more than a battery swap, but judging from some crazy times I see on the footage I come across I wonder....by fgiraffe - Café LA Re: Panasonic DVX100A and Flip Ultra HD Camera (I know don't ask) how to multiclip? - 14 years agoQuote Has anybody tested this with footage that has very little movement I've run it almost exclusively on interview footage and it works like a champ. As for speed, I don't have any hard numbers. But a typical interview scenario for us is: 70 minute interview two cameras (HVX200s shooting 720p) 30 clips for each camera, 60 clips total. Version 1 takes around ~15 minutes on my 2.5ghzby fgiraffe - Café LA Re: Panasonic DVX100A and Flip Ultra HD Camera (I know don't ask) how to multiclip? - 14 years agoThe PluralEyes application won't be able to multi-clip, but it WILL create a synched sequence for you when you have non-matching types of footage. Think of it as "old skool multi-clipping". It's $129 and worth every penny to me, and also has a 30 day free demo:by fgiraffe - Café LA Re: FCP 7: Motion 4 : Color 1.5 ect :-))) - 14 years agoQuote you have any questions about the release, I can probably help you out I'll take you up on that, thanks! Specifically what if anything has been done to improve media management. The Apple white paper says that reconnecting is now based on Spotlight, but little else. Just curious, how are the Gold/Silver/Bronze categories used by the station? Is this just for shows in the larger Discovery network, or for cable in general?by fgiraffe - Café LA Re: Expresscard 34 eSATA card on a MBP - 15 years agoI'm running the $49 card from MacGurus (that uses the Silicon Image chipset) with no issues on my 2.5mhz MBP. (10.5.6). A co-worker is using the same card on his older MBP, also with no issues. Not sure why we are lucking out, but no complaints.by fgiraffe - Café LA Re: FCP Studio 2 and Avid MC3 on Same MacBook Pro... ? - 15 years agoI'm running OS X 10.5.6/QT 7.6/FCP 6.0.5 and Avid 3.x on the same MacBookPro with no issues. I am just using DV and DVCPro HD, so I can't say every codec combo will work. But so far so good. BTW, make sure the MacBookPro seller includes the master discs for Final Cut Studio when they send you the laptop. If not, you're not getting a legal version of FCP.by fgiraffe - Café LA Re: system choking on ProRes - 15 years agoJust guessing, did you add a lot of footage to the drives today? It's easy to forget that hd performance drops as the drive gets more full. Maybe you were just squeaking by before, and when the drives got more full and slower you reached the limit of non-raid performance. ProRes should be OK at lower res (1080i or 720p) on non-RAID eSata, if that is an option.by fgiraffe - Café LA Re: OT: Announcing the 8th Annual Macworld FCPUG SuperMeet, Jan 7, 2009. - 15 years agoLooking forward to it, this is THE reason to go to MacWorld SF. One thought: if Apple isn't going to present anything new, do they need stage time? Last year it felt like the guy came out and read a press release of old news. Given the tech level of the audience at the Supermeet, is this serving any purpose? I don't know what caused it. In my case I had to delete the master clips and the media files, re-log to re-create the clip and then re-capture the clip.by fgiraffe - Café LA Re: Lacie 500GB Invalid Node Problem - 15 years agoAFAIK Disk Utility should work fine on external drives if you booted from an internal drive. But yea, you do need to boot from the install DVD to repair your boot drive.by fgiraffe - Café LA Re: Searching For Movie Data????? - 15 years ago(blowing the dust off this old post...) We're getting this on our project now, every since we re-orged our project. It pops up for every DV dialog track we have round-tripped through STP back into our FCP project. In our case it does NOT go away quickly, it hangs there for about 5-8 seconds. We have 40+ files like this, it GOT tedious. I think this dialog comes right from QT (not FCP) whenby fgiraffe - Café LA Re: What makes project files so freakin' big? - 15 years agoThanks for all the ideas, everyone. Shane, your DVD is great, I own it and have made some friends buy it! My only suggestion would be to make a sequel (maybe even better: a book!) that went even deeper into the issues with very large projects. There is definitely an opportunity between that DVD, the APTS "Optimizing Your FCP System" and the manuals.by fgiraffe - Café LA What makes project files so freakin' big? - 15 years agoHello- I'm fighting a losing battle trying to keep our FCP project file under 100M. We're a feature length doc, 99% NTSC standard def, ~4000 unique clips, 1.8 TB of media. ~ 20% of the clips are multiclipped (almost all 2 camera, a few 3). No nested clips. No subclips. Typical sequences are very much "PBS-style" instead of "MTV style". Very very few fast cuts. Project properties are the same in both the old and new project. I coped the sequence via the browser, and verified that the sequence settings are the same in the old and new project. I checked out the threads on reconnect problems in 6.0x, and upgraded from 6.0.3 to 6.04. All of the master clips in the original bins (corresponding to tapes when logged) have been copied from the original old, fat, broken project into a new, empty 6.0.4 project, and reconnected. Works fine. Yay! Project can be opby fgiraffe - Café LA |
