That way you spend only a few minutes to output a sample to see if it meets your needs. 2. This past year I did quite a bit of HDV-60i stuffby boydmcc - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Mastering issues. - 14 years agoCarpboy, are you in CA? My suggestion would be to talk with the authoring agent, write down exactly what he needs, then for you to find a professional compressionist in your area (hopefully on a Saturday there should be some post houses open) and have them to the compression for you. Pay what ever $$ you need. If necessary, bite the bullet and push back your delivery a day or two to get it doby boydmcc - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Deauthorizing Final Cut Pro - 16 years agothis is actually pretty funny from a karmic standpoint. As bad as it is to pirate software, it's even worse to give your software out to be pirated! If he can afford a new computer, he should be able to afford a new license. And hopefully learn a valuable (and expensive) lesson at the same time.by boydmcc - Café LA Re: FCP Universal Q... - 17 years agoIf you're going from 5.0.4 to 5.1, it's actually considered a "crossgrade" and the $49 really covers cost for S&H. You should do it quickly, I believe the special pricing ends 12/20. Here's the link:by boydmcc - Café LA Re: HD Post - 17 years agoHow much footage to you have? Instead of renting a deck, it might be cheaper to go to a post house and have them down convert your footage to SD; you might even be able to bring in a firewire drive and have the footage captured directly to your hard drive. Beyond just the deck, DVCProHD will eat up a lot of disk space. Of course the nonprofit may feel entitled to HD at no cost and think their viby boydmcc - Café LA Re: Sony A1U/A1P/A1E - 17 years agoI haven't really used it yet (only a couple hours), but we picked up the A1-U earlier this year. My wife took it to China and shot some stuff. The footage looks pretty good - the biggest caveat is the low light performance is not very good. Also be careful with fast pans. My wife loves the camera because it's small and easy to handle. I wouldn't say or think "unfortunately" at all! You have a gig and Canon is supplying the cameras. That's cool, plus you'll learn more about the H1 (and HD) to boot. Can you be more specific? Is it bad acting, bad camera work, bad script, incomplete footage? I don't even know if your film is a comedy or drama or thriller or horror flick. "Cut it in half? Whenever you use the statement "it sounds better when...", then there's your answer. That's pretty much what the professionals do. There are numerous ways to control the levels of individual tracks. 3. Mixing audio is similar to cooking food. Restart in "safe mode" to see if that works. Copy the iMovie 6 you have installed on the other computer you mentioned to a CD/DVD, then copy and paste that onto your G4. It might be a conflict issue with FCP, but it's just as likely to be a conflict issue with some other app oby boydmcc - Café LA Re: ripple delete won't work - 18 years agoThere's nothing wrong with your system or FCP. The Ripple tool does not work on just one track (except the very end clip). You need to have both the video and audio track(s) selected at the same edit point for this to work. If you want to use the Ripple tool, lock any track that has audio on it. Sounds like you are only using audio track 1. So lock A1 (and A2 if you v.o. is in stereo) FCP defaby boydmcc - Café LA Re: OT - New Intel/Mac commercial - 18 years agoLooks good full screen on my 30" cinema displayby boydmcc - Café LA Re: another..log & capture problem - 18 years agoA couple other suggestions would be: 1. try capturing with another camera or deck to eliminate that as a possible problem. 2. Disconnect any other FW devices so only the one coming in from your camera is active, and turn that on first, then launch FCP. 3. Swap your FW cable with another one. I'm currently working with over 50 hours of source material for 3 documentaries (the source material was caught on 2 cameras during 10 days of shooting on location) and CatDV is a great help. I have more experience with v3, but 4.0 looks similar and improved.
