Thanks Walter, I am working on a matrox box and a HDMI monitor but guess I need to get another camera so. Where will it ever stop?

I shoot my movies with a Canon xha1s Camera (records on dv-tapes with the 1080 25p HDV standard). When I connect the camera with a component cable to the monitor I see a perfect quality hd-movie. To capture the movie I am using the common FireWire connection. I choose the HDV capture settings in the project to capture the movie to FCP. When I compare the quality afterwards,in FCP there is

Try cleaning the heads using a cleansing tape, that did the job for me.

Hi it must be something I missed but since last week my cmdZ does not work. I thrashed the prefs, In users prefs I have 20 undo's.... Now what??

Thanks everyone , that was very helpful. I ll will def get a matrox box for creating DVD's. Working in prores 422 would be an improvement too I guess, Now I just have to figure out which one, mxo, mini or mxo2

I am capturing hdv video with firewire 400 from my canon xh a1s straight into log and capture in FCP. Would capturing with an mxo (2) box increase the quality of my end product? Or would the only benefit of the mxo box be the ability to color correct on an ACD for broad cast quality?

xh a1 footage looks squashed in FCP - 15 years ago

I just imported stuff from my new XH A1s (replacing PD 170 ) into FCP and it looks as if the image is squashed: Legs and bum of the talent look bigger than in real life. However if I play it straight from the camera to the TV it all looks fine. I am shooting in: PAL 25F HD 1080i/576i I use: FCP 6 Mac pro 10.4.11 Audio/video settings are: HDV-1080i50 preset: HDV HDV 1080i50 f

Thanks a lot guys, That's very helpfull. Indeed when capturing it 'dialoged' that the scratch disk is full.Could that be the problem ? What can I remove safely than? Sorry, I am really green... (I Live in Ireland )

Hi, I am still a beginner here with FCP. And this keeps happening to me: Often after opening my project some files went off line and I can not trace them back what so ever. Today I had to clear some scratch space and removed other titles and render files, most of them nothing to do with the project. I realised my mistake and dragged everything back from the trash into the disk. How will

I found a way around it: I closed my project and opened a new one. Captured it in the new project , no problem. Than I copied it to the existing project , et voila! It should not be like that should it? But at least I can continue... BP

I tried to capture from tape,> set ins and outs >log > batch capture> than the dialoge shows up , but does not tell what those items are. I stopped using capture now because everytime I did that, loads of files went off-line forever and ever... Thanks, BP

Sometimes when I try to capture footage I get this box showing: Additional items found. If I continue half my files go offline. It is only 5 clips with a total of 6 min.and it found 98 items Now what ? will I add them ?

It is a 6.0.5 I think it has to do with "capture now" which I sometimes use because of another weird problem: If I set all the ins and outs and batch capture the clips, they remain red-slashed and I can't connect them . If that Happens I give up and ' capture now' Why is that ?

I am capturing in the "log and capture". And yes, sometimes I use "capture now", and I suspect there could be a link.. I am using a 200G second (but internal ) drive which came with the mac, with 80G available. I am recently backing everything up on a ext drive which is formatted to osx extended(journaled) But the problems started before I got that.

Hi everyone, I am still very new here and aI have a problem: I am working on a project and nearly every time I am capturing new footage into it , half my clips ,in a sequence where I am working in, have gone off-line, by the time I got back to it. And no matter what I try, I can't reconnect them. They're gone. pfft! I am working with FCP6 mac osx 10.4.11 Sony pd 170

Thanks for all that, As far as I am aware the sony shoots real anamorphic however the pixels are still 4:3 , stretched into 16:9 with loss of quality. So in the log and capture I set it to 4:3 letterbox instead of "anamorphic" ? Does that mean that I can start editing all over again? Are there any filters and effects you would recommend ?

Hi, I am making an educational DVD ,using a PD170 with 16:9 anamorphic settings. As I understand from many posts in this forum this is not ideal cause it is native 4:3. And to be honest it looks pretty mank and blurry What filters or effects should I use ( FCP 6 ) to make it look acceptable ? OK thanks a lot, You guys have no idea how delighted I am with this. and the de-interlacing for the web is a matter of checking the progressive box in the output fields in compressor right?

Strypes just sent me an article learned to check the de-interlace box in movie properties in QT That seems to have solved the problem instantly. I must have unchecked it along the waysome time. Would that be it ? That simple? Thanks!

Hi, The funny thing is that the slightest movement creates the lines, any movement. I ve never noticed a progressive setting on my pd 170.

quick time conversion - 16 years ago

Hi I just bought my first FCS2 a few weeks ago and tried to compress a few videos for you tube. I exported to QT and than to MPEG4 and followed the instructions I found on your user group . All went well but the video ended up cropped on the sides with a black bar on both sides.I noticed that my previous video's , edited with imovie ended up with 320x235 dimensions , now, they end up 300x24
