Click HERE to register now Inexpensive Mac Laptop for use on set - FCP capturing - 12 years agoHello everyone I am looking for a laptop, used, that I can take to set to capture footage, check file format, quality, spec captured footage, and basically backup all the SD cards I'm shooting with, Canon 60D Anyone recommend a Mac laptop that would not be too expensive, like under $1,000, but can still do the job ( all editing will be done later in suite, 2010 mac pro 12 Gb Ram, 4 TB, Blacby rockin ron - Café LA "finishing" in SMOKE vs FCP - Are there obvious visual differences? - 13 years agoHello all I am intrigued to find out what are the differences between Autodesk Smoke and FCP as far as the actual final appearance of a project? Image quality etc. Can the average client see a difference? Is it worth both the expense and mental effort to learn the program, very weird structure BTW, in order to continue to compete in today's market? It is my understanding that certain new macs do just that. Does anyone know what to type into the terminal that will tell you whether Snow Leopard is running under 32 or 64 bit? What is the value of 64 bit? The footage looks good. What is the best way to take the corresponding quicktime movies, which I have, and reduce them to fit on the 4.7 Gb disk? Do I reduce the quicktime quality and then re-export or should I reset the compression settings in compressor? They are great. In my opinion part of the trick is to ensure that there is no latency between the video and the audio when you play the timeline and that the lips are always in sync. Right now it exists as 1920x1080 Prores 422 HQ on the timeline and as 2 70Gb quicktime movies, pt. 1 and pt. 2, 110 minutes total I know diddly about doing a film out but if I can help the client prepare the movie for film out it would be a feather in my cap. I have PAL assets ready to go. What is best way to alter a project to be PAL? Do I remove all the NTSC assets first, then change settings to PAL and import PAL files? The big problem is the Arabic subtitles, 700 of them. Moving them to the new project.
