Importing it back into FCP7, it's the same.by MetalGuru - Café LA Exported file changing run time - 6 years agoI have a ProRes 4444 24p film master, which I'm exporting from FCP7 to ProRes 422. However, the exported file is running almost 6 seconds longer. Any ideas why this is happening? I'm baffled. 4444 file = 104:25:14 Export -> Quicktime Movie -> ProRes 422 1920 x 1080 24p 422 file = 104:31:21by MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Latest tool for ripping DVD to desired codecs? - 7 years agoI find that when I rip to ProRes with this, it's not the exact correct codec for FCP 7. I'd like to keep the running time the same. I just tried an export from MPEG Streeamclip, setting the frame rate to 25fps, but I'm sure there's a better way.by MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Converting SD DV PAL (25fps) to 1920x1080 (24fps) - 7 years agoHi Nick, I followed a guide I found here. I've also set the frame rate in the video section to 24 fps. The result is a lot better than what FCP7 gave me. Sadly there's no way of recapturing any of the material as it was shot and captured 12 years ago. Luckily I still have it on an old archive drive. Another problem is that fact that the documentary includes mixed quality footage - some is fby MetalGuru - Café LA Converting SD DV PAL (25fps) to 1920x1080 (24fps) - 7 years agoWe produced a documentary around 15 years ago, shot PAL DV 25 fps. We now need to upscale it to HD in order to replace all the movie clips with newly transfered 24fps HD footage. I figured making the entire documentary 24fps would result in the best looking film clip replacement, as there will be no change. But the PAL DV footage itself dowsn't look so great upscaled in FCP7. Any suggestions as tby MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Mac upgrade question - 7 years agoThanks Jon. I'll wait until after Christmas and see if anything gets announced. But I doubt it. Any recommended adaptors?by MetalGuru - Café LA - X Mac upgrade question - 7 years agoI'm currently working in FCP 7 on a Mac Pro (Early 2009) running OS10.6.8. I edit and encode SD and HD video for DVD and Blu-ray. I have the option to upgrade to a new 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display. I'd probably go for the best spec I can afford. Or... would I be better off waiting for the new iMacs to launch in 2017? I also have a lot of Firewire 400 and 800 external hard drives, raby MetalGuru - Café LA - X Re: Should I upgrade MacBook Pro 15", Mid 2014 to new MacBook Pro? - 7 years agoThanks for your thoughts on this. We have the mid 2014 MacBook on a lease which is due to expire shortly. Do we keep the MacBook, or renew the lease and get the new MacBook? It sounds like it's not worth it at the moment. Is the Mid 2014 MacBook in any way upgradeable so we can get another year or two out of it? I'm holding off on buying a new desktop - whenever they decide to announce them. I'm concerned about migrating DVD Studio Pro over in particular, and all the projects I created. I'm not sure I'd have a clue about how to install it on Sierra, as per Dennis' post. Is there some sort of guide as to how to install on Sierra? For editing, I guess I will move to FCXby MetalGuru - Café LA Re: What's the latest MacOS I can safely upgrade to which will run FCP 7 and DVD Studio Pro? - 7 years agoThanks so much for your detailed reply. Can anyone help with DVD Studio Pro and later Mac OS compatibility? It seems that getting a new Mac may nopt be a priority if DVD Studio Pro no longer works. I had to do it frame by frame, but it looks spot on.by MetalGuru - Café LA Dupe frames when ripping VOB file from DVD - 8 years agoI'm using MPEG Streamclip to rip a movie file from a DVD we've been supplied with - it's most likely a PAL to NTSC transfer, runnng at 23.976 fps. When I play the footage in MPEG Streamclip it appears fine, with no dupe frames. However, when I export to ProRes 422 / 23.976 a dupe frame appears at around every 25/26 frames. Is there a reason for this, and a way to stop it happening?by MetalGuru - Café LA Re: FCP Blur effect? - 8 years agoJust been looking at CHV Morph - could this be the answer I wonder? Or perhaps I could do each frame in Photoshop, if I can find a suitable filter.by MetalGuru - Café LA FCP Blur effect? - 8 years agoCan anybody suggest how I can achieve this blurred text effect? Luckily the accompanying feature film itself does not have this problem. I may have to just cut these frames out, as you suggested.by MetalGuru - Café LA PAL Digibeta masters just arrived, a technical query - 9 years agoWe've had the Digibeta tapes transferred to ProRes and I'm noticing a sort of single frame print through of the next scene at every scene change. Is this a technical glitch of some sort? Or are the PAL masters poor standards conversions?
