It is PAL or NTSC compatible as well as playing both Mini-DV and full sized 184 minute cassettes. For the price it is not possible to find a better unit (and it is sturdy) but no timecode readouts are problematic for some. Then use the Canvas to make Picture in Picture sized clips by reducing the top clip to 1/4 size and then the next clip to 1/4 size and moving them around until they are all visible in the Canvas. FCP 5 has an awsome implementation of multicam editing - up to 128 streams of video for each edit. HDV looks better than you can even imagine. FCP timeline extended to 12 hours for a sequence.
