Thanks!by stefangs - Café LA Re: DJI Spark footage in FCP? - 6 years agoOf course I transcode everything to Prores, just didn't know if the old compressor can even read what the Spark puts out. But if it can, then all is well! Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA DJI Spark footage in FCP? - 6 years agoHas anyone tried using footage from the Spark in an FCP timeline? I normally use 25 fps, the Spark does 30 fps only, but conforming with with Cinema Tools should only help the footage. But what about the codec? Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Slipping video only - 6 years agoCan you slip the video content of a clip without moving keyframes? Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Frame size mismatch - 6 years agoI have shot some music video footage in 1080p. I also want to add some slow motion footage from an iPhone which can only do 720p (when it's in slomo). The slomo shots make up only about 5% of the entire project. Normally, I'd say that I keep my timeline in 1080 for better overall quality and upscale the 720 clips. However, the project is for Youtube and it seems to me that going the other wayby stefangs - Café LA Re: Mavericks vs. Snow Leopard - 6 years agoThanks Nick, that was it. Now I even recall having set that on the older partition, but it was just so many moons ago! Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: White canvas - 6 years agoThanks Nick, it was the latter in the canvas. Works again nowby stefangs - Café LA Mavericks vs. Snow Leopard - 6 years agoA real dinosaur question perhaps, but I have created a partition with Mavericks on my late 2011 Macbook Pro. I have a project on the SL partition where the render bar shows orange for the clips with plugins, but playback is smooth. I have now booted into Mavericks and opened the same project. All the orange sections are now red and won't play. Is Mavericks slowing down FCP or should I copy allby stefangs - Café LA White canvas - 6 years agoHi guys, I'm editing with my laptop and I have inadvertently hit some keyboard shortcut I don't know about. Now my canvas window shows only white when paused. Playback is normal. How do I cancel that? Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: Stamping a logo - 6 years agoGosh, it's been so long since I've visited the forum - shame on me. Thanks Nick for your help. I thought there must be a way - now I know! Cheers, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Stamping a logo - 6 years agoHi guys, I'm editing part time at a new work place. We use Sony Vegas on Windows (duh!). It's quite a change from my FCP environment, but I also like Vegas for some of its features. When the finished clips are uploaded to Youtube, we also have to create a custom screen shot which is a still from the timeline with the channel logo stamped to the lower left corner. The logo itself is actuallyby stefangs - Café LA Re: Can Color 1.5 do more in terms of color grading than FCP7's own tools? - 6 years agoInteresting topic, since I also want to learn to get better color, but learning the outdated Color seems like a daunting task. The DaVinci site only shows the most recent version, it seems. Anyone know where I can get a legacy version for my FCP 6? Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: How do you change the track order? - 7 years agoThanks for the tip, Nick. Hard to believe that a compositing editor with a 99 track capability wouldn't allow for changing the order! Quite absurd, actually. Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA How do you change the track order? - 7 years agoHi guys, It's hard to believe that I never ran into this. Searching the iindex of the manual doesn't turn up anything... so how do you change the track order in the timeline? I've tried all sort of key combinations, but obviously I missed the winner. My workaround was to add a track up top and then move everything, but there must be a better way. Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: Basic AVCHD question - 8 years agoGreat suggestions, Dennis! Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Basic AVCHD question - 8 years agoSometimes I'd like to go back and clean up archives of AVCHD files, like when there's a ton of useless footage in between the stuff I'd like to keep. Normally, I put the files back on a media card, put that into the camera, then delete the unwanted footage inside the camera and back up again. It's slow, I know, but I'm not sure if I can just delete the mts files on my hard disk, because I don'by stefangs - Café LA Re: transcoding XF-AVC to ProRes - 8 years agoNick Meyers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > do a standard down-res first, then revisit the > selected portions and do a "best" quality down-res > later. > Ok - I didn't think that my old Compressor would even know what 4K is. Good strategy though to do a 2part process. Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: Lumix GH2 footage - dropping frames? Need to match with the audio - 8 years agoNever happened on my GH2. Perhaps the SD card was on its way out or not formatted beforehand. Have you put the footage back in the camera? You can watch it there or plug it into your TV. That will tell you if the camera has recorded the problem which will be probably next too impossible to fix or if it was a transcoding problem. Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: Need color corrector help - 8 years agoThanks Nick, I had forgotten about the 'paste attributes' function. That will do. Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: transcoding XF-AVC to ProRes - 8 years agoNot that I want to hijack this thread, but I'll be another one of those dji drone pilots that pop up everywhere and that cam puts out 4k video which I'm not so interested about at this point. Can this be converted also with the FCS tools (or something else) for the same workflow that AmyF uses? Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: Need color corrector help - 8 years agoNick, adding more yellow, some blowout fixer, and also the great Lyric shadow-highlight makes the clip not exactly great, but quite acceptable for the casual viewer (the target group). Now I don't see a way to copy this plugin-chain to the entire angle. I have already made most of my edits and it looks like I have to apply everything for each cut to C2 individually. Do you know how to apply itby stefangs - Café LA Re: Need color corrector help - 8 years agoNick, I do have the blow-out-fixer. I'll give it a try, although it's not so much the blown out part that bothers me (well, that too), but the different color. It's almost like a mapped color table. In a static image I'd probably try curves, but I don't think there's such a thing in FCPs tool box. Yes, I'm already using very little of that camera, but I do need to use some, otherwise I can'by stefangs - Café LA Re: Ideal Audio Level Range - 8 years agoWhat you learned in that sound class is certainly correct. If you set the levels as high as possible without overloading, you'll get the cleanest sound. If your Zoom recorder hovers around -36, it's badly underrecorded. Even that is still better than overrecorded, but for the future you want to make sure you set levels properly. Boosting gain later will introduce noise, as you noticed, and theby stefangs - Café LA Need color corrector help - 8 years agoHi guys, I've shot something with 3 cams. The colors are so different, it's not even funny. I've attached a screen shot of a matching frame from C1 which I think is decent: Here is the same frame OOC from C2 (which I suppose is inferior in quality to begin with) with blowouts and everything: And with some correction using the color corrector 3way (which is a wee bit better, but sby stefangs - Café LA Multiclip audio question - 8 years agoHi guys, after all these years, I've arrived at Multipclip editing for the first time. Works quite well for video, but I'm having troubles setting up the audio the way I want. I shot with 3 cams/angles: C1: has the best audio, useable audio for V1/V2 C2: only reference audio C3: partly usable audio for V3, otherwise also use A1 So I'd like to set it up so I can link V2 with A1 alwayby stefangs - Café LA Importing Sony files into FCP - 8 years agoI've recorded some video with a Sony EXCAM. Obviously, they play nicely with Vegas, but at home I still have my FCP7 on a Snow Leopard machine. The Mac/Quicktime complain that it can't read the files. Neither the QT player, FCP, or compressor recognize the files. The VLC player has no problems, however. Is there a particular trick or setup I can use on my system to edit with FCP? Thanks, Sby stefangs - Café LA Re: Greenscreen spill - general question - 8 years agoGuys, thank you all for enlightening me on all ends of this problem. If anything, it's comforting to hear that it's normal to have to deal with spill and not my particular noob problem. I'll try backlighting next time, although probably more so indoors, because I don't have lights that can give the sun a run for its money. Cheers, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Greenscreen spill - general question - 8 years agoHi all, I've experimented today with a greenscreen setup outdoors in bright sunlight. The spill was quite heavy, so I increased the distance between the subject and the screen to about 4 m. This was only a test though, because my folding GS was now just about large enough to cover head and shoulders. To my surprise the spill was just as large as before. Is it because the bright sun bouncesby stefangs - Café LA Re: Animated map in FCP? - 8 years agoJust an addition in case anyone stumbles upon this in search of a how-to. There's a great tutorial here: Cheers, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA |
