Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: Uncovering a title in motion - 9 years agoWhy was the topic moved to LA-X? I thought all things FCS2 belong in FCP. Sorry... Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: Changing playback speed with no timeline effect - 9 years agoHi Nick, yep, the "old way" is what I've been doing up til now. Seems like a workaround, especially with longer timelines. But if that's what people in FCP land do, it's fine with me Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: Lots of photographs - looking for a good approach - 9 years agoI'm an old fashioned guy and use GraphicConverter. You can see the folder structure, thumbnails of an entire folder, and use the cursor keys to view them quickly. (Of course, you can also use it to convert your source media to whatever you require in terms of scale/size/crop/aspect...) The interface is a bit clunky, but it works well and you can try it in demo mode (I don't remember how long. Befby stefangs - Café LA Changing playback speed with no timeline effect - 9 years agoHi guys, when I want to change the playback speed of a clip to be faster, the other clips move in to close the gap. This may or may not be what I want. In particular, other tracks may have a conflict here and prevent that operation altogether. Can I still perform that operation if I don't mind the resulting gap? Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: What is the last version of MAC oS X which works with FCP7? - 9 years agoAndreas Kiel Wrote: > So Nick's advice plus a clean install would be the > best choice. I thought that to clean install you need a PPC because the installer discs are not Intel native, yes? Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Uncovering a title in motion - 9 years agoI'd like to reveal a title with a light effect in Motion (3). As my skills are rather limited, here's what I tried. I have the title (which is an imported png) on a layer and I'm using the lens flare effect which pans across the screen left to right on another layer. In its trail the title is supposed to gradually appear. Initally, my idea was to simply animate the crop of the title and followby stefangs - Café LA Re: Optimizing green screen - 9 years agoGreat Dennis, that's it. Now that I think of it, it makes sense. Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: For insomniacs. - 9 years agoOh nice, that thread predates my forum registration and I'm glad I saw it. I suppose this was the precursor to the ellipsis. Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Optimizing green screen - 9 years agoHi all, I've set up a green screen in my studio and am generally quite happy with the results. The spill is reasonable, nothing that can't be fixed with the tools the chroma keyer in FCP provides. One funny thing though is that when I move my hands, there's a rather large halo of green spill. As soon as I hold still, that goes away. Why is that? I know that increasing the distance to the screeby stefangs - Café LA Re: Known Working FCP7/OS combinations - 9 years agoI just installed FCP 6.0.6 on a MacBook Pro (MBP6,2 - Mid 2010), running OSX Mavericks 10.9. I migrated the App from a 10.6.8 partition on the same machine. and will keep that until I'm confident it doesn't crash (too much). But it opens and runs fine. As it is, I find Logic to be pretty clumsy for posting, so I decided to do it in ProTools. I exported the locked audio tracks, like dialogue, as a complete file and I will replace wild sync stuff like FX and ambiances from scratch. It's painful as a general workflow, but for this particular project sort of acceptable, as there aren't a zillion audio bits and I hadby stefangs - Café LA Re: Extracting a bunch of audio tracks - 10 years agoHi Randy, thanks for answering, but actually it's the other way around. I already have two mono tracks and would like one stereo track instead. For testing, I now renamed a copy of one such pair with the endings .L and .R, respectively. That was correctly recognized as a matching stereo pair (although it got munched as far as the finder is concerned). But the handle/pointer info is gone. The fby stefangs - Café LA Re: Extracting a bunch of audio tracks - 10 years ago3rd post on this today - sorry guys. It's turning into a bit of a 80s style adventure game where you solve one puzzle only to see 'You can't go north' on the next step. Ex- and importing OMF worked, but all tracks are now Mono. It's not rocket science to convert the appropriate tracks into interleaved stereo files, but it's still quite a task to figure out which files are actually supposed toby stefangs - Café LA Re: Extracting a bunch of audio tracks - 10 years agoWhoa...not so fast. Logic can also import OMF. Glad I just noticed that before choking on the dust on my G4! Happy Easter again!! Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: Extracting a bunch of audio tracks - 10 years agoWell not much happened actually! Trying to open the OMF file did nothing. Searching the help file tells me I need DigiTranslator 2.0. Searching Avid/digidesign tells me it's built in to PT, but not available for PT M-powered which is precisely what I have since I retired my larger PT rig about 10 years ago. Now I'm left wondering which is likely to take longer - extracting the audio from thby stefangs - Café LA Re: Extracting a bunch of audio tracks - 10 years agoThank you guys - never used OMF except once in the late 90s and it was a nightmare. Curious to see what's going to happen! Let's all remember this. That is one fantastic tip!! Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Extracting a bunch of audio tracks - 10 years agoHi, I'm about to finish up a larger project and going to audio post. As I'm facile with ProTools and Logic, I don't really want to learn another audio editor. Instead, I'd like to bypass FCP/STP for audio mixing and just bring in the final audio tracks for rendering. Most of the ambiences etc. will be replaced, because the camera sound is lacking, but obviously there are lots of clips whereby stefangs - Café LA Re: Transparency in Motions canvas - 10 years agoThanks Lore, I haven't been 'on' for a while and just saw your shortcut. Very nice indeed. Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: Transparency in Motions canvas - 10 years agoGreat tip to drag the Motion project file to the FCP timeline. Worked perfectly fine, although for this project, I've rendered out with the Animation codec, because I have more direct control of the sequence that way. And reducing the open sequence tabs to about 10 helped with the reordering mess ;-) Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: Transparency in Motions canvas - 10 years agoHi Vance, thanks for your input. I rendered in normal ProRes 4:2:0 which explains the missing alpha channel. I'll try again with the animation codec. I didn't know you can use the Motion project file directly in FCP, so that's a good idea, too. Regarding the dragging of tabs, that doesn't work for me. Whenever I drag, FCP will tear off the tab and make a new window from it. Dragging it backby stefangs - Café LA Transparency in Motions canvas - 10 years agoHi all, I've created a little animation in Motion which I'd like to overlay on a clip in FCP. The project in Motion is set up so that the canvas is transparent, but displays in black (the default actually). But when I import the clip in FCP, it is not very transparent at all, it looks just as solid black as it does in Motion. Just to be sure, I switched the display color in Motion to whiteby stefangs - Café LA Re: Fade shortcut wanted - 10 years agoGreat guys! The shortcut combination of Nick's parking and selecting and Derek's -Cmd T works great. That's all I needed. I do appreciate questioning my motivation for shortcuts where none exist... this is useful in many cases for me, though certainly not in all of them. Not everything I edit is for the masses (actually just very little). Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: Fade shortcut wanted - 10 years agoThanks for these helpful tips, Derek! Still learning this outdated software, but feeling more comfortable with it every year ;-) Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Re: Fade shortcut wanted - 10 years agoYes, but that does not include the audio track and it also requires handles to dip, just like the Fade in/out. Looks like I need to keep doing it the long hand way. It's not terrible, just a bit convenient. Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA Fade shortcut wanted - 10 years agoHi all, I often want to make a transition between two clips by fading one out, then the new one in. So, not a crossfade, but a short dip into black. Aside from the looks, I see a difference here in that there do not need to be handles beyond the in/out points. When the clips are already side by side in the timeline, as they usually are, I do the following: - confirm again, that still noby stefangs - Café LA Re: Keying out the sky - 10 years agoOh man, how many trees does it take to hide the forest? Just dragged the luma key on the clip on V2 - done. I keep talking about keying but then I don't use a key filter! (shaking head) Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA |
