It seems every second Apple product takes an extra 3 months to get here... Do you think we might have a price adjustment soon due to the US dollar/AU dollar? I haven't seen it at 84c for 20 years... Still, I don't reckon I'd jump quite so early. Have the prices of the quad/duo's come down? Would you be better off aiming lower and going duo/quad in the medium term? I think field tests will be important - just another couple of weeks and we will know more I think. There are really three parts to this as I see it - 1. Getting the audio signal into the computer - really, this is the easy part, with a multitude of options. Nothing wrong with doing the video route as per Jude's setup. 2. The microphone (duh) - more money is (almost) always better! What mics are you all using out of interest? I just use a Roby jusrus - Café LA Re: Input for voiceover tool?? - 17 years agosome classic comment in this thread. My next mac will definitely make me breakfast. And for the record I use my Digidesign 002. a cheap second hand Mbox would probably provide the best results at a cheap price point.by jusrus - Café LA Re: Slightly OT : Location recording advice - 17 years agoThanks for the replies Koz. While its slightly redundant because I have passed on the job due to time constraints and another client, its interesting none the less. In answer to your first post, from my ProTools setup which can do 16, I was curious as to a device that could do 4 (or more) channels simultaneously. ZOOM has a reputation within the world I work in of being about the same as Lby jusrus - Café LA Slightly OT : Location recording advice - 17 years agoHi all, I've been offered a job doing location/field sound recording - those of you who know me will wonder why I'm posting, as I do this sort of thing a lot. Well, here's the thing - its for a rally car race! So no power (and no 002/ProTools rig) and probably no laptop for any decent length of time (although I'm considering investing in one of those 110/240v cigarette light adaptors).by jusrus - Café LA Re: Lights, Camera... Apple at NAB: Anybody get an invite? - 17 years agoI'd love to but no. I'm planning a tour next Feb/March including SXSW and NAB if the dates all work out though!by jusrus - Café LA Re: Lights, Camera... Apple at NAB: Anybody get an invite? - 17 years agoAre you going Jude?by jusrus - Café LA Re: Best way to go for Dual Layer burner - 17 years agoI just did this upgrade twice to two G5s last week - very easy - not as easy as a HD install, but not difficult. Process took under 20 minutes, OSX 10.4.8 recognised the drive as a native Apple drive (ie supported by iDVD etc), nothing else to do. Can't remember to model number, something like DV-116 or whatever they are up to. Easy as pie - AU$49 I think - I did it for a couple of beersby jusrus - Café LA Re: Is this the best quality for the web? - 17 years agoI actually don't know if you can do it in FCP. I'm not working today, so i can't check for you. By stereo image I mean a combined stereo file - ie 2 mono tracks panned left and right. It has nothing to do with EQ, purely about audio level.by jusrus - Café LA Re: Is this the best quality for the web? - 17 years agoCommonly (since the invention of stereo devices), the lead vocal will be straight up the middle of the stereo image - so by lowering this part of the mix, you will generally get a softer vocal from a standard audio mix. As for the compression, I am refusing to deal with Flash encoding for anything like this. I can't see the point.by jusrus - Café LA CD/DVD Burning Speeds? - 17 years agoSo I just installed a new 18x DVD burner in a G5, and I was wondering where we are all sitting with burning speeds at the moment? I used to burn audio at 4x max, I've now pushed this to 8x (I work in an audio world a lot of the time). What's the consensus with DVDs? Any speed barriers, or should I just be hammering at 18? Opinions appreciated as always. Good luck Jude!by jusrus - Café LA iTunes Independent Movies? - 17 years agoHey, Was just reading a post by Mike in another thread and I had a lightbulb DING moment! I play in a number of independent bands here in Australia, and have successfully added albums to iTunes for sale via www.tunecore.com. It has worked well so far, and the dollars are (slowly) starting to hit my PayPal account. Do you think there will be a video/movie equivilent of this service? Isby jusrus - Café LA Re: Apple to hold special event at NAB - 17 years agoAnd the whole world was filled with lovely new Macs that didn't require me to render. Ever.... _______________ Every time we get close to this a new video format or plugin or something comes up that makes us all start again... Oh, what a ^%&*^&*%^ wonderful world...by jusrus - Café LA Re: Apple to hold special event at NAB - 17 years agoI read somewhere that they think its going to be a hardware solution based Final Cut system - which would be interesting. There are so many things on the table at the moment - iLife 07, Leopard, 12/13inch MBPs, 15inch MBs, FCS6 - I reckon its hard to know. And the MacPros are definitely due a physical overhaul at least. And for the record, I've foun FC 5.14 to be OK.....by jusrus - Café LA Re: Way OT: organizing files - 17 years agoI'm with Jude. All files for video projects in one folder, and smart naming system essential. In regards to other documents, I've been using a monthly system for a while and it works wonders. IE - I create a folder called February 2007 in User/Documents. I use this for quotes, invoices, lists etc etc - anything not directly project related. Then at the end of the month I back up to CD/DVby jusrus - Café LA HD Setup Ideas - 17 years agoHey all, Thought some of you might find this interesting reading - there are some obvious holes, but otherwise I think it gives some good advice for new systems. I have no connection with dv.com etc etc. J.by jusrus - Café LA Re: Need to send roughcut clips over the web for client approval - 17 years agoSome really good points made here I think. I wouldn't really want to show a client any work at less resolution than what's been talked about. 11mb for 4 minutes is in fact a little under what I go for. The client EG I did yesterday was 16.1mb for 3 minutes. I did need stereo sound though (music clip). As for the upload factor, yep, DSL, ADSL etc generally bite. I've got a medium (for Auby jusrus - Café LA Re: FCP 5.1.3 Issues - 17 years agoHahahaha. I've moved to 5.1.3. My Boris plugins are broken, they have come un-registered for some reason. Other than that, I haven't noticed any issues yet. And after the upgrade my G5 now recognises renders done on my MBP. Happy days. No other issues of yet. Stable and happy - been at least 3 days now.
