We are having serious problems with an EpsonStylus Pro 7600 printer. Is there a good trouble shooting forum for digital photography or other that might help us with it? Thanks. -Russby RJ - Café LA Re: Clone System HD to another Mac via "Target" mode? - 12 years agoGuys, thanks for the great ideas. Shane, you're right about pulling out the drives of course, but I'm just amazingly lazy. Guess I'll have to get out of my chair. Ben, is it possible to manually navigate to the FCPS registration and delete it? Somewhere in the user's library? Thanks again, -Russby RJ - Café LA Clone System HD to another Mac via "Target" mode? - 12 years agoWe are setting up a number of FCP7 systems in new MacPros and are interested in setting up one system and then cloning the system HD to the other machines via firewire by putting them into "Target" mode. Will cloning with Carbon Copy Cloner work using this method? We have purchased FCPS licenses/installation DVDs for all machines, but we think this might save us some work instead of iby RJ - Café LA Re: OT: Seagate Barracuda 1 TB jumper question - 12 years agoIt's in the garbage. After whacking it with a hammer that is, since it had backup data on it from all my machines. :-)by RJ - Café LA Re: OT: Seagate Barracuda 1 TB jumper question - 12 years agoThanks for your responses, guys. I downloaded the installation manual from Seagate and the configuration notes indicate that it should be off and if the drive doesn't load then the cpu's motherboard needs the jumper to be present. I've used this drive for a year in a firewire enclosure as my local network Time Machine drive with no trouble. When I put it in the MacPro it started to act flakeby RJ - Café LA OT: Seagate Barracuda 1 TB jumper question - 12 years agoHi, I'm putting a Seagate 7200.11 1TB SATA drive into one of the sleds in my "early 2008" MacPro. The drive has a jumper on it and I've forgotten whether that should stay on or come off. On = "Limit to 1.5 Gb/s Operation" and Off = "3 Gb/s Operation." Can somebody tell me what's right for installing in my MacPro and alternatively if I put it into an externby RJ - Café LA Re: Display card replacement advice - 12 years agoI tuned out on this, because I didn't think anyone was going to comment... was I wrong. Thanks to everyone who entered the discussion. I went ahead with the 5770 because there are no 5870 to be found. Thanks again. -Russby RJ - Café LA Display card replacement advice - 12 years agoThe ati 2600XT display card in my 2008 MacPro went belly up over the weekend. I found an ati 5770 at the local MicroCenter, but I was wondering about the ati 5870 which is hard to come by right now. Anybody have experience with it and hazard to guess if it's worth waiting until the 5870 supply loosens up? I can get a loner 2600XT for a couple of weeks from a friend. The machine is primarily uby RJ - Café LA Re: XDCAM EX Workflow? - 12 years agoRe: the Z systems tutorial. I've just got to say, LOL! Love it when the MacPro ejects from the desk. -Russby RJ - Café LA Re: 24P Animation Question - 12 years agoDavid, Just a thought... Your problems could be associated with the lack of applied motion blur when you rendered your piece. You could do a quick test by applying a minimal slow motion effect and rendering out and testing it on a system where you previously had poor results. Also, how where the stills compiled into one file? In FCP or in QuickTime Player? I've never gotten into encoding, but I'm doing a freebee for someone and I'm going to have to build the DVD for them. They want to put as much footage from a series of workshops onto one DVD, but not degrade the visual quality too much. The material will be originated in DV, shot on a PD150 and DSR-300. It will be welby RJ - DVD Studio Pro Re: New Mac mini OK for FCP6? - 14 years agoThanks for the info guys. After reading the review on MacWorld I might pick one up for myself to replace my old G4 I'm using as an office/internet machine.by RJ - Café LA New Mac mini OK for FCP6? - 14 years agoHi guys/gals, I have a friend who's an experienced producer (mostly PBS) who needs a simple, low cost system for FCP6, Compressor, and DVDsp. No need for heavy lifting with Motion or AE. I know the previous generation of Mac minis wouldn't work due to the integrated Intel graphics chips set. Does anyone know if the new minis will work since they switched to the Nvidia graphics set, the saby RJ - Café LA Re: fixing echo - big room - 14 years agoAttenuating low frequencies can sometimes help.by RJ - Café LA Re: Oh, no.. not Seagate drives!! - 14 years agostrypes and grafixjoe, Thanks, you guys are the greatest. -Russby RJ - Café LA Re: Oh, no.. not Seagate drives!! - 14 years agoI have one of the affected drive models, but I can't figure out how determine the firmware version on a Mac. Disk Utility doesn't report it. Any other ways I can see it? thanks, -Russby RJ - Café LA Re: OT: D-SLR Movies... - 14 years agoIt is impressive, but... only 24p and you have to physically hold down a button if you want to lock the exposure during movie capture, no manual exposure mode - the deal breaker for me. It does bode of future things to come. The hot rumor is that the, to be released later in the year, Canon 5D Mark II will have a HD video mode. -Russby RJ - Café LA Re: Anyone using the Highpoint RocketRAID 2640x4? - 14 years agoSprocketz, Thanks, once again, for the great information. You're 4-perf, all the way. -Russby RJ - Café LA Re: Anyone using the Highpoint RocketRAID 2640x4? - 14 years agoSprocketz, Thanks much for the reply and information. I'm probably going with a plan similar to yours. Did you move your system drive to the empty optical drive bay? If so, did you use the MaxUpgrades kit? Best of luck, -Russby RJ - Café LA Anyone using the Highpoint RocketRAID 2640x4? - 14 years agoHi folks, I finally put my Sawtooth G4 out to pasture for use as my office machine and bought a 2.8GHz 8 core machine (wooey!). I'm doing my first HD project and looking into setting up an internal Raid. The CalDigit Raid card looks sexy, but I'm trying to stay under budget and looking at the Highpoint RocketRAID 2640x4. Anyone have experience they can share about it? Thanks, Russby RJ - Café LA Re: 5.1 audio card or firewire unit for STP? - 15 years agojgourd, Thanks for the reply, I was thinking no one was interested on this forum and just noticed your post. Your setup looks like a good one, I'm an Event user myself. I tinkered a bit with Soundtrack Pro recently and I am impressed with it so far. It seems like an able app for 5.1 and I have decide to start teaching myself surround editing and mixing in it. I presently have an Mbox 2 and I've been thinking about upgrading to an Mbby RJ - Soundtrack Pro Re: NAB - anyone get a sense if Apple improved MM reliability? - 15 years agoThank you Nick. So far, I haven't seen any posts regarding this, so I thought I'd ask. It pretty much made my day when I saw on the Apple site that FCP6 would export OMFs with pan and volume adjustment meta data. thanks for any info, -Russby RJ - Café LA Re: Radeon 9200 PCI card in old G4 w/2X AGP? - 16 years agoBarry, Yes, there is a currently shipping version for "Legacy" Macs. I want to get a graphics card with more video memory to enable Quartz Extreme and Core Image in the operating system. My question is: can I upgrade the graphics card to an ATI Radeon 9200 PCI graphics card ($129) rather than the ATIs Radeon 9800 2X/4X AGP card ($258)? I upgraded the processor to a 1.2Ghz a couple of years ago and it's currently running 1.5GB of ram. Your problem is going to be the display card. Mine is an ATI-8500 with 64mb of vram which ATI no longer makes. It supports Quartz Extreme, but not Core Image. As I said, I have no problems running FCP5.by RJ - Café LA |
