Damn, I'm getting old. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Plugins and Upgrading to FCP X - 12 years agoI have spoken to many of the 3rd party plug in companies and none of them are under NDA with Apple and are waiting, just as we are, for X's release. Though past versions of FC always stepped on the previous version, since X is an entirely new application, it should be able to be downloaded as a separate application. Jon Chappell makes a good point though in terms of the name of the download.by Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoOne thing I will say about Adobe. At least they bend over backwards to communicate not only with their 'Influencers and press people' but with the general public as well. Apple does the complete opposite. Think of how many Apple products are sold enriching the company because of the lafcpug and kenstone site as well as others like it. But does Apple communicate with the people who contributby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoWill it grow over the next ten years to become a Final Cut Pro Stallion? Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoThe date that I heard was June 11th. Who knows if it is accurate or not but in todays paper it said the Steve Jobs would be showing off Lion this coming weekend. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: ProKit 7.0 - 12 years agoIs the Black Magic card and settings the only negative thing that has occurred with this download? Personally, I am not using BM but I am still wary. I didn't have any problems with the 6.0 download myself but am holding back on this one. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoI am most definitely going to be getting it. Just hope I won't hate it. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Pro Kit 7.0 update - 12 years agoSo, here is something new other than the FCX monster thread. I have heard that the new ProKit 7.0 update has caused some problems with Aja devices. I don't use one of them so any other issues that have come up before I install? Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoAnd that is what I intend to do. I have already been asked to address a few groups on X and I haven't even played with it yet. Did practice with iMovie a bit though.;-) Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoHey Tom, I know you're an extremely knowledgeable editor and all that but you've raised some issues that I have thought about. Unless you already have it under NDA, you, as well as other instructors and trainers will also have to learn the new application. Unless you have instant genius with it, how can your classes begin to teach an application that you yourself are just beginning to leaby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoHey Christoph, From speaking with many of the companies, they are waiting for the release just as you are. My guess is that 'PERHAPS' Boris FX may have an NDA but that is only a guess. Red Giant and many of the other companies I have spoken with are waiting just like you and I. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoNo 3rd party software companies that I have been in contact with have gotten NDAs as yet. This means that no plug ins that you may regularly use will probably be compatible with FCX. That will take awhile so just hold on to your Studio 3 and work in it while learning the ins and outs of X. We all have different workflows and some need certain tools more than others. I wouldn't want to have to wait for another version just to get back my waveform monitor for example. Never theby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoAndy, And so will X, eventually. The whole point is the one you made. FCP was built up and fortified over the last ten years. Do you really want to wait for another ten years to go by in order to have access to the tools you already have in FC7? Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoFor one thing, there is no need or cause for anyone being rude to eachother on here. Flaming is usually banned on most forums and I hold to that. For a second thing, I hope everyone can see the humor in this whole thread. It is developing the same paranoia found in 'the Invasion of the Body Snatchers' . Bottom line, no one really knows anything and if they do, they're not talking. It'sby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoWent to the Apple Store this morning on another matter but thought I would ask around. None of the stores FC trainers have received training as yet and no one seemed to know a thing about it, not even the release date which I thought was June 11th. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: You knew this was coming - Final Cut X Parody - 12 years agoLoved both of them....and I hate rap but that was soooo cool. steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoKeep in mind that Apple is playing catch up to Adobe's 64 bit, all the ram and cores you can afford CS5.5. Thus, they're rushing X out and will probably make the rest of the studio available until they can get those apps up to speed as well. Back to a la carte until all the studio apps are 64bit and then we will probably see it sold as a studio again. Yes, this is just more speculation. Stevby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: How do you move a clip from Viewer to canvas without its audio? - 12 years agoYou don't really need to detach A1 and 2. Just lock the audio tracks.by Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoBen, I understand your thoughts on this, however, I was recently up at Howard and Michelle Hall's home. They are the leading producers and shooters of all the IMAX underwater films. I wish I had his budgets (and skills). Never the less, he has thousands of hours of archived tapes. Even he doesn't have the time or drives to put them all on cards and, if he should ever need to go back andby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoWhile the media may now be stored with the project, there must be some way of using clips from one project in another. Some way to transfer clips from tape captured in FC7 to one of the new projects created in X. Or is this a naive assumption?by Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoThe workaround regarding tape should be easy enough, I hope. Use FC7 to ingest tape and then transfer over the media files to FCX's capture scratch. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoHey Jeff, Maybe you can explain to this to me because it is really something I am a bit ignorant about. Why was QT X introduced in the first place if it didn't work properly? What was its purpose unless, as you suggested, it was just a preview on a postcard? I really don't know. I was asked to speak about underwater filming for a Media Association Group recently and gave them a data diby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: Capturing Apple Pro Res 422 Proxy - 12 years agoWhenever I capture HDV tape, the first thing I do is transcode each clip to Pro Res SQ or LT. In the beginning I hated the time wasted with the HDV conforming issue and that is never a problem when working in Pro Res. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Archiving with a Drobo - 12 years agoI've been using the Data Robotics Drobo Pro for a couple of years now, 5 bays being used, 3 empty right now. No matter what I have on the DroboPro, it is backed up on another external drive as well. I haven't had any drives die on me yet but backing up is only common sense. To date, the only problem I have had that really can be annoying is that sometimes the Drobo Pro doesn't mount after tuby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Complete FCP Studio Package - 12 years agoYou don't say which Studio it is. Steveby Steve Douglas - lafcpug Market Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoBeen playing in iMovie the last few days and it feels like an app I would use for teaching my 8th graders before I retired. No waveform or vectorscope, not really frame accurate...heck, all I wanted was to use all my ram/cores and 64bit. Hate the thought of putting all these years of learning to the side only to have to start over again learning a completely different workflow and lexicon. I opened the latest version iMovie. Never used it before so this was the first time in all these years. I imported both some pro res and hdv clips. Some of the clips kept their aspect ratio and others did not. Haven't a clue why. The prefs in iMovie are set to actual size. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA |
