This is a marketing nightmare and the how and why of Apple introducing X this way was just plain stupid. I am, unfortunately, not at NAB this year, however that there was no Q & A after the presentation was obviously a mistake. People left and right seem to be panicking and I don't really blame them. Ignorance is difficult to deal with and editors have questionby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X FCP to Soundtrack - 12 years agoTried the Soundtrack Pro forum but it doesn't seem to get much traffic. Don't use Soundtrack Pro very often but highlighted a sequence in the FCP browser to send to Soundtrack Pro as a multi track project but I consistantly get an error message. Does this call for trashing SP's prefs? Not sure what is causing the issue in the first place. My problem is that I am in San Diego and LA is a long drive away Steveby Steve Douglas - lafcpug Market Re: where's the easter egg - 13 years agoThe missing Yak, haven't seen it in some time. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Is OS X Update 10.6.7 ok? - 13 years agoJon, What seems to be the issue with the 4000 card? I do know that the card created a flickering with any of the Apple Acrylic displays but I thought that had been taken care of. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: So Motion 5 then - 13 years agoI'd like to see more characters in Motion....I am sick of butterflies and crawling ants. Why not cars, fish, sharks, animated animals that can be scaled or replicated. There are all kinds of possibilities. Just wish I had the ability to draw and animate myself but I can barely draw the same T Rex I used to draw in 1st grade. Steveby Steve Douglas - Motion Re: OT: I hope you are ready for the Tsunami on the west coast... - 13 years agoI have my surfboard and scuba gear at the ready. I was in the water in 2004 outside of Phuket, Thailand when the Tsunami hit there. It wasn't a pretty sight but I was glad neither I or my guests were hurt. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: FCP editing 3D? - 13 years agoKen Stone told me that some of the 3D T.V. manufacturers are now putting warnings on the sets/boxes not to allow children under 7 to watch them as they can cause brain issues. Sounds weird but toddlers brains are in a developing state so perhaps this makes some sense. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: iMovie Pro... WHY? - 13 years ago64 bit, yep, that will be great. Changing the whole interface....why? Pointless IMHO. Haven't opened iMovie in I don't know how many years, do I really want to learn a whole new workflow? Nope. But right now all is just speculation anyway and we can cry later if need be. No point in seeing the negatives without knowing what they are. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA - X Re: OT: Essential Mac software we couldn't or shouldn't be without... - 13 years agoEvery one has named my 'have to have' apps though I was unfamiliar with R-Name. Would like to add: Super Duper which I use once a month and either App Delete or App Zapper as they find all those little hidden caches and files when I need to delete an app. Great thread. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: OT: The variable pricing of After Effects CS5 - 13 years agoOf course, I do remember getting an old version many, many years ago for $1.00 when I was in Thailand. Hardly legal tho but it worked. Would never do that now. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Render Manager - 13 years agoCompletely agree with you Derek, remember that initially I found that he had over 52 gigs of render files. I walked into his editing bay, the size of a small country, and just did basic maintenance first with the drives. It wasn't until after some would not repair that I did tell him to eject the drives and install one by one. It did not occur to me that they might be full. The obvious is oftby Steve Douglas - Café LA Render Manager - 13 years agoI was trying to help an acquaintance with his system recently. He was complaining that just opening a clip up from the browser to the viewer brought up the 'out of memory' warning. He shoots primarily using footage from the Red 1, Canon 5D and the IMAX cams. I discovered that he had over 52 gigs of render files that he no longer needed and a trash that was also full. Used the Render Managerby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Larry Jordan has seen the light... - 13 years agoUnless it is 64 bit and can assess all your ram and cores in FC, it will be pointless to have a new version. I believe it will be. (I hope) Ironic that I just got an email ad from Red Giant yelling success that they now have all their excellent applications caught up and compatible with CS5. Now they have to start from scratch, as will all 3rd party software companies, making it compatible wby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: FCP Matrox O2 - 13 years agoJust to get my 2cents in. I have been using the MXO2 for a couple of years, at least, with never a single problem. I love it and don't use half of what it is capable of. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: THE NEW MACBOOK PRO'S ARE HERE!! THE NEW MACBOOK PRO'S ARE HERE!! - 13 years agoNot to mention that Larry Jordan announced on his blog that he was able to preview the new Final Cut Studio due out this spring. If it is also 64bit as Adobe had done, there will be a huge rush on purchases. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: What are the softwares used in hollywood movies today. - 13 years agoMuch mention of where the industry has been and where we are now. How about your visions, as you see them, for the future? I would be interested in how others might see where we are headed in terms of both hardware and software. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Nikon D 90 video - 13 years agoMaybe someone here will be able to fill me in. I got a call from a client who needs help with audio drift that he is getting off the video of his Nikon D90. I looked the camera up and it records at 720p at 24fps but I am not sure if it is a true 24fps or the proper 23.98. If 24, I suppose I can take the footage into Compressor and change the frame rate. I believe the Canon 5D had the same issue wby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: FCP not recognizing additional RAM inserted in Mac Pro Intel tower - 13 years agoDoes anyone really know just how much ram FC can access? I've always believed it was 2.5 gigs ram while others here say 3 or 4 gigs. I only know that I am praying FC goes 64 bit so I can assess the 20 gigs of ram and 12 cores I now have. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Capturing without hearing audio - 13 years agoUncheck the audio in the capture settings tab and it won't capture. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Monitor Recommendations needed - 13 years agoRight now I am using the KDL XBR6 which I connect to the MXO2 via the MXOs HDMI out to the in of the Sony. The Apple Cinema Display uses a DVI to ADC adaptor. If I did get a new monitor to replace the ACD and it had HDMI out I could probably have it go straight from the monitor to the HDMI in on the Matrox and bypass the need for the DVI/ADC adaptor. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Monitor Recommendations needed - 13 years agoCraig, Do you think the resolution differences between the HPL2475 and the 30" make much of a difference. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Monitor Recommendations needed - 13 years agoThanks for everyone's input. I had been thinking of the HPZR30w 30" monitor because of its greater resolution but, maybe that is not really necessary. Right now I am using a Sony 32" Bravia as my external monitor coming out of the MXO2 box. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Monitor Recommendations needed - 13 years agoActually Loren, nothing is wrong with my Acyrilic monitor and Ken Stone has convinced me to stay with it. I was under the mistaken believe that getting one of the newer monitors whose contrast ratio and resolution greater than 1920x1080 would make a big difference. Guess I was wrong. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Monitor Recommendations needed - 13 years agoThanks very much for the feedback. While I use an external monitor via the MXO2 box for CC, I only use a single computer monitor. Space is an issue for me, true, and I have no real need for a dual monitor system but was of the thought that the higher the resolution for a monitor when working in AE or FC would be an improvement over the 2002 Apple monitor I use now. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Monitor Recommendations needed - 13 years agoWouldn't a monitor with a 2560x 1600 resolution serve better in the editing bay? More costly but the Acylic I have now is also 1920x1200 so I don't see how I would get more out of the one you suggest. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Monitor Recommendations needed - 13 years agoStill on my 2002 23" HD Cinema Display Acylic and desperately need to get a new monitor. I don't want Apple's 27" glossy and I remember that there were a few Dell's that people were recommending awhile back. Thinking also of one of the higher resolution HP monitors as well but sure would appreciate your suggestions here. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA |
