yeah. the two options i suggested is a combo. the first is the card that provides you with the eSATA (e = external) capability and the second is the eSATA raid drive to plug into it. what eSATA is is simply the most affordable of the "uber-fast" solutions that shane mentioned earlier in the discussion.by wayne granzin - Café LA

paulina, here is the typical setup i use in my octocore macpro. its VERY simple, not uber expensive and works great: gives you 4 eSATA ports and be sure to stay with the QUAD interface (gets you all the eSATA port)by wayne granzin - Café LA

i dont recall installing the latest OS update or anything else abnormal but lately im getting a rash of FCP "unexpectedly" quitting... and whats new is that when i restart fcp, about 1/3 of the clips in my browser (that were previously saved) are just not there. not missing, not disconnected. just no longer in the list... is it just me?by wayne granzin - Café LA

framestore = cool industry speak for "the drive youve assigned as your scratch disk." if you did not manually assign a scratch disk, fcp automatically assigns it to the documents folder on your boot drive. be it a secondary internal or an external drive setup. it is HIGHLY advisable to have a separate physical storage volume for your scratch disk.by wayne granzin - Café LA

if you need it to build from the actual smoke clip you have. you could export a pict sequence of the smoke. do a hi-con in photoshop. batch it. then reimport that as a mask. or you could do several layered maskshape+feather processes in FCPby wayne granzin - Café LA

i have 3 maxtors purchased in the last 18 months. two of those have mounting problems. one of which gave me a message saying it was about to fail. i have 5 iomega drives that all work great, though two of them have REALLY noisy fans. to iomegas credit they have agreed to replace those enclosures for free.by wayne granzin - Café LA

you have opened THE most passionate topic in lafcpug. lacie and mybook products have THE HIGHEST failure rates out there - at least on a word of mouth basis. you could argue that they have the most failure reports because they are the most available products out there (they can be purchased at just about ANY retail store you can think of). with that many more products in circulation, it onlyby wayne granzin - Café LA

back in the early days of digital video. it was pretty much a rule not to have ANYTHING on the machine that wasnt REQUIRED for video. but that was because it was just barely possible in the first place and you didnt want to overtax the system. but in the last 5 years or so. its no longer a voodoo situation. i frequently have an ftp transfer going and am responding to email while im renderinby wayne granzin - Café LA

thats an odd question. im not sure the array of answers are going to give you any kind of solid information. at the times in life when ive been employed, my mac was provided. BUT i still always had a (usually better outfitted) self-purchased one at home. if i were currently employed by someone i would NEVER have ANY personal email on that machine. id keep a yahoo/gmail/personal webdomain/by wayne granzin - Café LA

there is an organization holding a raffle of some pretty decent video gear. buy in is reasonable, gear is good and it seems to be a worthy cause. they are trying to buy a van for their education/community center they are posting at the sponsor level over at dvxuser. just thought id pass the info on to the lafcp gang. sure, the more tickets purchased the lower my chances are to win - but i fiby wayne granzin - News and Announcements

brilliant thought shane. i didnt know i could go out to cam/P2 like a VTR... that's going to be my next experiment. but only for my own education though - as to be honest, that process is WAY too much effort on my part (that i wont be compensated for) for people that arent making ANY effort to make my life easier. im sure weve all been there before... : | as a side note. there are like 80+by wayne granzin - Café LA
