Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Panasonic AGX 100B Anamorphic - 11 years agoI'll make a stab at this, seeing how no one has responded at all for over a week. I have a DVX-100B myself, but I have never used this mode. My understanding is that it is emulating anamorphic digitally, not optically, and even though the output handles just like real anamorphic, the quality is not as good, much like digital zoom can't match optical zoom. Now that I've stuck my foot in it, mby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: TIPS ON UPGRADING TO "TIGER" SAFELY - 11 years agoOne more tip - have the title of your post reflect the actual OS you are upgrading to....by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: F9, F10, F11, F12 Not working on FCP 7.0.3 - 11 years agoThis is such a well-known problem I'm surprised you're having it ;-). It's in the FAQ. You've fallen victim to the default keys that support Exposé, and they are easily reassigned to some other key combo (or ignored completely). Then you'll have your FCP key combos back.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: limitation to markers in browser? - 11 years agoQuote or put it in a bin first should take care of that eventuality.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: limitation to markers in browser? - 11 years agoEasier way to get past it: double click the bin icon that holds your clip, or put it in a bin first, which will open that bin in its own browser window. Now you will be able to see all your markers.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Supermeet updates - 11 years agoWhat kind of computer horsepower is it going to take to run all this? Can a first generation Mac Pro with 2 dual cores have a chance?by Scott Taylor - Café LA - X Re: New Final Cut Pro at Supermeet, April 12 - 11 years agoThis is a big day for big announcements. From NASA is the announcement of where the retiring Space Shuttles are going, and here in the Northwest we've been holding our breath that one would be coming to Boeing's Museum of Flight. But alas, the company that has been instrumental in the development of space flight hardware throughout its history was left out. Interesting that today is the 50th aby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Where did my title go? Font disappears even though it shows everywhere else. - 12 years agoUsing FontBook on another computer with good Adobe Garamond Pro, you could export it, then import into FontBook on the problem machine, unless there are copy protections on that font (if that's possible). If it came with the OS, that shouldn't be a problem. Before importing into the second machine, delete it with FontBook. That's what I would try, anyway.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Display Full Screen - 12 years agoTry Preview in Slide Show mode (View > Slide Show). It blacks the screen and shows the picture to the edges (depending on aspect) without any toolbars (Esc to exit). Or Finder > Slide Show or Quick Look, depending on OS version. Not sure if they display "true" without distortion, but there is nothing but picture when you use one of these. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: iMovie Pro... WHY? - 12 years agoI learned a nice trick from this thread! Quotexavpil: Better example would be Cmd-` QuoteNick: you can do that with Shift Apple ~ Same effect, but the Shift is unnecessary. Never heard of this one, but I'll bet it's been around a long time.by Scott Taylor - Café LA - X Re: FCP on late 2010 Mac Pro won't communicate with Canon HV 10 camera - 12 years agoNot to hijack the thread, but I've seen questions lately about which FW ports people are using. Is there a demonstrable difference between the front and rear FW ports on a Mac Pro? Does it depend on what vintage your MP might be? Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: F9, F10, F11, F12 Not working on FCP 7.0.3 - 12 years agoQuoteBen King: Mac Pro Keyboard Fn key is above Delete QuoteTom Wolsky: The F key function that Andy showed has nothing to do with laptops or desktop keyboards or the Fn key directly. The F key checkbox MUST be on to make the F keys function in applications. I have one of the early Mac Pros (2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon) and neither the key nor the check box exists on my system. Withby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: F9, F10, F11, F12 Not working on FCP 7.0.3 - 12 years agoAndy's screen shot appears to be from a laptop; heavensvideo says he has a Mac Pro which wouldn't have a Fn key anyway. If it really is a Mac Pro and not a laptop, I'd try another keyboard.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: OT: Comcast to Wipe Out NBC logo - 12 years agoIs there a transcript of the lyrics?by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: How do I take a clip in one of my sequences, and stretch it out to slow down and take up more time? - 12 years agoI've had FCP since ver 3 and never was aware of this, but that doesn't prove anything . It just seems like a quicker way to do a fit-to-fill, and would be handy for that.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: How do I take a clip in one of my sequences, and stretch it out to slow down and take up more time? - 12 years agoQuoteBen said You can also tap the 'S' key 3 times quickly until you get to the 'Speed Tool' - then grab the end of the clip with the pointer and drag it out to the length you want. When was this introduced? Sounds like a slick tool, but I've never been aware of it.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Soundtrack Pro vs. Pro Tools - 12 years agoSo Jude, what would put you OFF Sound Track Pro? What specifically does it lack, or do poorly, that makes it less worthy? I'm sure it has fewer features, but is there a quality difference if your audio editing needs are modest? Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Warning : ProKit 6.0.1 update. Do not install. - 12 years agoHas this been addresses by Apple at all? Have they released a newer ProKit without these problems? I'm getting ready to upgrade from Studio 1 to current, what do I do about Software Update when I try to bring it all up to current versions? Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: FCP Media Manager Memory - 12 years agoPG - I asked earlier how much space on all of your drives, not just the one you have your project on. They all count for performance of your system. Please stop calling disk space "memory." Memory refers to RAM, what you have available on drives is "disk space." The distinction is important, and you mislead people who are trying to help by confusing these terms. And youby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: FCP Media Manager Memory - 12 years ago"Memory" refers to RAM, not hard drive space. How much RAM do you have on your system? And now to contradict myself, "out of memory" errors can be caused by a system drive that is too full, as it manages virtual memory. Give us the capacity and available space info on all of your drives.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: In desperate need of help! Final Cut Pro suddenly distorts audio!?? - 12 years agoBlast from the past - this has come up before, and it has happened to me. Bizarre solution (for some, anyway) is to reset your Easy Setup - change it to something else, then back again. It makes no sense, but neither does the problem itself. can't guarantee it will work in your case, but easy enough to try. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Buying advice: Mac Pro w/ one 3.33GHz 6-core or Mac Pro w/ two 2.4GHz quad-core? - 12 years agoIf you have the choice, buy it from Apple with the minimum RAM possible, and buy your additional RAM from a 3rd party - much cheaper, just as good.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: What Hardware do you use for Scrubbing? - 12 years agoFor simple scrolling back and forth in the timeline, I use the scroll wheel on my Microsoft wireless mouse, pushed to the left or right (not every mouse scroll wheel does this). It gets me where I want to go in a long timeline real quick, but it's not for precision moves. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: What Hardware do you use for Scrubbing? - 12 years agoThanks, Tom. That's how I hoped it would work. Sweet dreams, Nick. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: What Hardware do you use for Scrubbing? - 12 years agoInteresting approach, Nick. I've never done keyboard remapping, so I would probably know the answer to this, but if you remap (for example) JKL to 456, does it remove the mapping from JKL (making them do nothing) or do they still operate as expected if you happened to use them? Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Has anyone tried Footage Firm Music Library? - 12 years agoFunny, I get these offers from Footage Firm all the time but for for stock footage, rarely for audio. They keep having these special deals where you can get a free DVD of a certain theme (backgrounds, cityscapes, mountains, etc.) for just the cost of shipping, always $8.41 (regularly $249). I've taken advantage of several of these offers, and it's good quality stuff, always exactly as advertiseby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Presentation with Freezeframes - 12 years agoOne way to do it, which may be utterly impractical in your case, is to play the presentation from an FCP timeline. Make your freeze frame long enough (10 seconds?) to give the presenter time to react to it and press space to pause it. Then to continue, press down-arrow to move the playhead to the next cut (back to motion pictures) and press space to start playing it right away. Not exactly aby Scott Taylor - Café LA FCS / QT / OS compatibility - 12 years agoI know this was discussed recently, and a reliable resource was mentioned by someone, but I can't find it! I want to know which versions of FCP, QT and OS work together well. I think there was talk of putting this info in the Wiki, but I can't find it there. It would be a good place for it. Anyone?
