Any mouse will work! Whether it works well is a matter of the quality of the mouse, not its compatibility. I use, among others, a Microsoft Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse that is comfortable and functional (and inexpensive). The scroll wheel not only scrolls up and down, as usual, but right and left juby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Having trouble burning a DVD of HD footage - 12 years agoI always love it when someone says: "... it stops and says "NOT ENOUGH DISK SPACE" or something like that...." "Something like that" is not good enough! The exact text of the error message was right there in front of you, and every word of it means something. I think it's actually telling you you're running out of disk space during this process. You say you have 10 G RAM, but check About This Mac to see what it says right now. Twice in the last several months I've had ugly slowdowns (across the board) and discovered that instead of the 5 GB I physically have installed, About This Mac reported only 1 GB. I had to reseat the RAM cards and it all came back.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: FCP slowed to snail pace - 12 years agoAn important factor is how full any of your drives are, including and especially your system drive, even though you may not think you are using it for FCP processing. Report on ALL connected drives, with percentage of free space on each. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Batch Export Problem - 12 years agoYes, DVstream (as from iMovie) requires an audio render every time you so much as touch it. Video seems pretty happy. And I know that from hard experience.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Garbled audio on playback - 12 years agoWild stab, because weird audio behavior has on occasion been solved by: resetting your Easy Setup. Click to another one, then back to the one you use. It's happened to me, and there have been a couple of threads about it. The other cases were more sporadic screeching, I don't know if that's what you have or if this will touch it. And I couldn't tell you why it works! But I hear it too....by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Install 2X FCP on a single machine? - 12 years agoIn any case, the second instance of FCP would refuse to launch because it would have detected that the serial number is already in use. This will happen if you have two different computers on a network, trying to run the same S/N FCP at the same time. It is legal to install one copy on your tower and another (of the same S/N) on your laptop, but not to run them simultaneously. So you couldn'tby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Imported Text from Photoshop won't superimpose right? - 12 years agoYou don't have to use something like Photoshop to get different size type on the screen. Boris Title3D comes with FCP and lets you combine different fonts, sizes, color, etc. on the same title clip. It might make your whole job a lot easier. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: OT-creating thumbnails for Finder for QT movies? - 12 years agoThe easiest solution is to upgrade your OS to Leopard 10.5.x or higher. The Finder in that OS shows thumbnails (playable even) in column view, just like it does for stills.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Strange shimmerings... - 12 years agoI'd have to say if that 20' screen is what you're tailoring your production for, it doesn't really matter what it looks like on a broadcast screen, except to have a clearer sense of what your tweaks are doing. Others have suggested the Flicker filter for this, I've never tried it. Keep cranking up the blur, ugly as that sounds, until the flashing goes away. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Strange shimmerings... - 12 years agoHow clicking on the link reacts depends on which browser you are using. Don't just click on that link, right-click (or control click) and choose Download Link Target or similar. That will download a file called Deflickerator.atn to wherever your downloads go. Double click that file to install it.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Strange shimmerings... - 12 years agoI have it here, download the link "Photoshop Deflickerator action." If I remember correctly, double-clicking the file after you have downloaded it will automatically install it in PS. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Strange shimmerings... - 12 years agoMany, many people have "had the exact same problem", it's well known. How are you viewing it? I have found that shimmers that look really bad in the canvas on my computer monitor look a whole lot better, even perfect sometimes, on a real broadcast monitor or a TV. What are the pixel dimensions of your images? Too much resolution at this point makes the problem worse; try scaling theby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Redux question: high Quad-core vs low 8-core? - 12 years agoQuote Only works with DV He never said what format he was working in.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Redux question: high Quad-core vs low 8-core? - 12 years agoI don't quite understand why you say an iMac can't interface to a broadcast monitor. It would work the same way I drive mine from a Mac Pro: FW to camera/deck to monitor. Did iMacs drop the FW port? Direct analog video out from the computer to a BC monitor has never been the right way to do this.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Markers in Browser!!!! - 12 years agoWait, this is a well known problem with the Browser. DIfferent limit for different people, maybe, but there is a limit to what the Browser displays and it's real annoying. But there is a solution! Double click your bin to open it in its own window, and now you have lots more room to work with your markers, and the Browser is much more accepting of them. Don't know why it does this, and it sby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: beginner keyframing problem - 12 years agoQuote I'm wondering if FCP has inserted extra keyframes It's not that. It all comes about when you add ease in/out to the mix, to try to smooth out the start and/or end of the scaling change or the motion. If you step through the timeline (while the clip you're watching is selected) and watch the canvas (in image/wireframe mode) you'll see that the path has been "automatically" modby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: beginner keyframing problem - 12 years agoCongratulations, you've discovered the "evil snake of doom" (a term coined by Graeme Natress). I had this problem when I first started, and I still have it because it is a basic limitation in FCP when you try to make 2 kinds of moves (scale and center) while adding ease in/out. Rumor has it that you can overcome this with very careful adjustment of the bezier curves and the "dotsby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: QT files = "Exec" files - 12 years agoFiles that have been recovered often lose their application-specific icons with no other consequences, and giving them an extension will often restore the icon. However, recovered files can never be guaranteed to be complete; there may be fragments or whole sections missing, which usually but not always renders them unusable by an application that would normally read them. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Sudden screeching Audio with headphones on - 13 years agoLet's narrow this down a little. My experience with this was on earlier versions of FCP, QT and OS than you have, but that may mean nothing. You talk about headphones, but can you confirm whether you also can hear it out of the built-in speaker without the headphones? Just to humor me, go to Easy Setup and reset it - select a different setup, save it, then go back and select the right setup.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Sudden screeching Audio with headphones on - 13 years agoI'm having a little flashback - something about resetting your Easy Setup.
