A leading space on those names would mess up the sort order too, but I can't see one. Can you rename those clips, carefully re-typing what they should be, and see if it makes any difference? Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: remote video production... - 14 years agoQuoteHarry ponderedA couple or three years ago, on this board, there was a mountainier gal who had a similar issue ... wanted to send live stuff from Mount Kilamanjaro or whatever it was. Does anyone remember that? Yes! original thread: original Follow-up thread: follow-up The web site for the production is: www.themountainwithin.com, but there's not a lot there. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: dip to color dissolve...having trouble with white not being white. Help! - 14 years agoWhy aren't you butting the clips together on the same track? That's how a dissolve is intended to function. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Canvas Playback Sticks - 14 years agoIf I read your description right, the same thing happens to me on occasion. If it's the same thing, I have an easier workaround: close the sequence, then open it again, no need to restart FCP. I have associated this on my system with doing other work on my computer besides FCP (with FCP and my project open), then coming back to FCP. I don't recall it ever happening in the middle of an editinby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Can I import movies from Itunes into FCP? - 15 years agoI love threads like this. It's always fun to get Derek charged up enough to give lessons on editing artistry. As well as everyone else. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Using Render Files for reconstruction - 15 years agoNothing needs to be done to the render files, they are already in exactly the format/codec of the timeline they were originally rendered from (after all, they are what play in the timeline when you've rendered something). I just dragged some old render files into FCP 5.1.4 and they are good old DV-NTSC. I would recommend copying/renaming them into a source folder so they don't get confused withby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Making a tape - 15 years agoI am happy to report, a little late, that re-establishing my Easy Setup solved my bad audio/good video through firewire problem also. All I had to do was click "Setup" in the Easy Setup I already had established, didn't have to set something else/reset or anything like that. I'm surprised that this is the first time (that I'm aware of) that this problem was raised, and so many chimedby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: FCP 4.5/computer will not open - 15 years agoThe remarkable thing about this problem isn't so much that it's an FAQ or RAQ, but that it's a RAA (Really Arcane Answer).by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Making a tape - 15 years agoI have glitches like this as well. If I view my work via Canvas or Digital Cinema Desktop Preview, through computer to an amp and speakers, all is fine. When I send External Video through firewire NTSC to my little Sony digital 8 camera that I use as a converter, video into my PVM14L monitor and audio into the same amp, the picture is fine but the audio is unlistenable garbage - scratchy and chby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Problem capturing CCIR 601/DV PAL 5:4 tape in FCP 6 - 15 years agoIs there an error message, or does it just stop capturing? In Preferences, confirm that no restrictions have been placed on "Limit Capture Now to ____ Minutes" or "Minimum Allowable Free Space" that would account for your capture to hit a limit. Might be worth trashing preferences when you run out of other options. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: OT: Macbook Pro owners... - 15 years agoWill we be editing video on the iPhone soon? Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: General error 34 - 15 years agoQuoteRonwhere is there a list of Apple Error Messages? I put a link in my reply, but here it is again. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: General error 34 - 15 years agoAccording to this source, Error 34 is "Disk Full". Yeah, might be a corrupt project, but you say "this is currently only project linked to MediaArray (Sonnet RAID 5) which just rebuilt." I'd check the health of this device real carefully, and of course see how full it is. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Date and time stamp - 15 years agoPiero's comment brings up an interesting point - FootTrack seems to have no trouble extracting the date/time metadata from DV files, why is it a stretch to expect FCP to be able to do the same? Granted, different media/codec formats may require different translations, but capturing itself has to deal with the same issues, so why not this particular metadata? Very often the date/time something wby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Date and time stamp - 15 years agoI assume you mean date/time the shot was taken. That's been a request for a very long time, so far unfulfilled AFAIK. Confoundingly enough, that metadata is preserved during capture, it would seem, since that is apparently what Start/Stop detection uses to detect shot boundaries. Why that info isn't easier to get at for other purposes is a mystery. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: My Plugins will not install or show up properly. - 15 years agoYou do need to restart FCP after putting the plugins there before FCP will see them. Sorry if that sounds elementary bit it's one of those things that's easy to overlook. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: UNABLE TO RENDER FILE - 15 years agoAccording to my trusty Mac Error Code wizard, error 48 is "Duplicate filename (rename); File found instead of folder." Check your disk for a folder in the media/render paths with the same name as a file in the project. That will confuse the OS no end, and by implication, FCP. Easily something you could have done inadvertently since you last put that project to bed. By the way, howby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: 3 frames out of sync at my place - all's fine elsewhere - 15 years agoMonitored the same way? Audio follows video, both being monitored through the same pipeline? Easy explanation for synch problem on everything, not so much for "just this one clip." But something to think about. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: I cant see external drive on desktop. - 15 years agoAnd just for grins, first check your Finder preferences. You can turn off showing Hard Disks on the Desktop, something I'd never want to do, but if it got unchecked by accident it might lead to what you're (not) seeing. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: OT- Good site for Manuals -- - 15 years agoCouldn't you remap that key in FCP and make it do ... something else? Or nothing?by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Fit to fill bug? - 15 years agoI have no idea if that helps! But it's good information and documenting the details of occurrence is the only prayer we have of figuring it out. But I wonder if you and I are going to be the only ones who care.... Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Fit to fill bug? - 15 years agoMaybe it's one of those things that won't ever happen again if you talk about itby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Fit to fill bug? - 15 years agoOK, it's not an exact copy (including speed effects) of the original clip, but it is the same clip, right? And does it respect the same In/out points of the original clip? I don't know what this tells us, but I have my doubts about the sticky mouse theory also. It's also interesting that FCP sees it as two distinct actions as well, since it lets you undo the second instance. Same thing when iby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Fit to fill bug? - 15 years agoIt might be interesting to know if that second inserted clip is identical to the intended one - is it formatted as fit-to-fill also, i.e., same length, same speed adjustment? My sense of it is that it was doing the same thing twice, "like" a key bounce, but not necessarily even using keys. So that might answer whether it is performing the same operation twice when you only wanted it oby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Fit to fill bug? - 15 years agoJames, are you saying that the operation is essentially happening twice - once the way you intended, then immediately repeating itself? I've had this happen doing overwrite edits on FCP 3 on a Powerbook, but not at all with FCP 5.1.4 and a Mac Pro. It was random and unrepeatable (but very annoying), and always reminded me of keybounce, where a key executes twice when you only pressed it once.by Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: FCP Studio 1 and QT - 15 years agoJim, I'm running FCS 1 (FCP 5.1.4), same OS, QT 7.5.5 on just about the same hardware you're using, and have not had any problems. I went to the latest QT sort of accidentally, having the same fears you are having, but everything has been fine. Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: SmoothCam clips won't stay rendered - 15 years agoCasey, there was a recent thread that sounds similar to this. Any help? Scottby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Getting "out of memory" error when rendering - 15 years agoQuoteDo you know what memory it's referring to? Not really, and that's the problem. That error message is always misleading. "Memory" normally means "RAM", of which you have plenty, but there is also the factor of "virtual memory" which is memory space that is swapped out to disk during processing. Rendering is a big user of virtual memory, and that is why we asby Scott Taylor - Café LA Re: Getting "out of memory" error when rendering - 15 years agoCheck available disk space on all connected drives.
