I use a a**kicking 3GHz Mac Pro with 4GB RAM and the quad core intel and found it to not really be the sharpest tool in the shed. Cheers Philby Phil - Café LA Monitor wierdness.. - 17 years agoNot a direct FCP issue but one I have never encountered and one I cannot solve. A G5 and a Samsung flat screen monitor. My son messed with the settings and now when the computer is booted up the screen goes black with a floating window saying 'Not optimum mode - optimum mode 1280 x 1024 60 hrz.' I cant get the machine to power up so I cant access the macs System Preferences. In the mac I have the boot drive plus a dormant 500gb hard drive. I will install two more 500 gbs and hopefully stripe the 3 of them. The firewire/10 bit issue of beachballing and frame dropping is a real pain in the a**. Cheers Philby Phil - Café LA Installing further internal SATA and RAM - 17 years agoI recently asked about dropped frames (using 10 bit uncompressed SD) and was told it is a cool idea to buy and stripe extra drive in the mac pro's empty slots to avoid using firewire and having ample drive speed. I am doing this but..do I need extra RAM? (I have 2 gb) Is 4 gb enough? When 16:9 is squeezed vertically..I believe the pixel shape changes..in my country I have to deliver alot of stuff like this. Then it is broadcast at 16:9 via an aspect ratio corrector. Apparently it provides better picture quality.by Phil - Café LA mac pro dual core fcp 5.2 G RAID dropping frames - 17 years agoI have a new dual core mac pro 3 ghz (it is not up to speed) with 2 gb RAM, FCP 5.1.2 and a G RAID and using AJA kona 3 card at uncompressed 10 bit and FCP keeps beachballing and giving me the dropped frame box. This should not be happenning really..I'm not convinced with this particular model of mac. Is there anything I can do to improve this situation? Cheers Phil UKby Phil - Café LA question for Ben King (Kona 2 card) or anybody who really knows - 17 years agoHi Ben, I have spoken to you before..I work in London..I have a Kona 2 card in a G5 going to a Sony Digi beta. I cannot get the card (or computer) to lik with the deck servo. I use only SDI with no black burst generator ( I never needed one with a Black magic card) and I would hope I would not need a BBG with this one. I have spoken to Aja support but the instructions the gave me via email have nby Phil - Café LA Connecting a Broadcast monitor via Kona 2 - 17 years agoI am using FCP 5.1, I have a new Kona 2 card which is taking some getting used to..does anybody know how to connect a broadcast monitor to it without having to use a digi beta deck..the breakout cables have only SDI in/out, ref in and a whole load of audio cables. Thank you...Phil in the UKby Phil - Café LA Re: Do I need ref/Black burst generator with Kona 2 card? - 17 years agoI've been doing it for a long time with no problems, everything frame accurate and passing broadcast spec...in the old days I just used to use a ref in and it to was cool...by Phil - Café LA Re: Do I need ref/Black burst generator with Kona 2 card? - 17 years agoShould not SDI in/out do that?by Phil - Café LA blue dotted lines appearing on FCP exports. - 17 years agoHi again, I have been getting intermittent blue dotted lines on exports from FCP 5.1 with Quicktime 7 on Tiger 10.4.6. Any ideas? Thanks..Phil in UKby Phil - Café LA Very Scarey CRASH!! - 17 years agoIm working on a G5 2 x 2.5 Ghz, 2 Gb HDRAM, FCP 5.1 with a Blackmagic Deckilink and a LaCie Big Disk of 1 Tb. It has always worked well except with HDV. I just had some quicktimes sent on another Lacie, imported some footage in. I noticed on some of the ruches weird grouping of white pixels flashing intemitently then the first time I brought a clip onto a timeline the machine crashed with all theby Phil - Café LA Dip to white transition with 16:9 - 17 years agoHi beloved Cafe LA...How do you do a dip to white transition on 16:9 footage without making the black bars go white without having to export the section, import then crop? Thanks...Philby Phil - Café LA Importing Motion pareticle transitions into FCP? - 17 years agoMotion has a couple of particle transitions that look really cool. My colleague uses AfterEffects to use Motion transitions but I was wondering whether I could do the same with Final Cut? Could I export them and place then in a timeline?Chheeers...Pby Phil - Café LA wierd scan lines/quivering 16 by 9 black bars? - 17 years agoI am editing a commercial that was HDV but we had the footage tranfered to digi beta 16 b 9 FHA as HDV was a pain in the ass. I also had to use some DV CAM footage and noticed a whiteish scan line at the bottom of the picture where the picture meets the bottom black letterbox which I cropped out but why is it there? Also, I slowed down some of the Digi beta footage and notice a slight quiver agaiby Phil - Café LA Re: FCP 5.1 straining using HDV? - 17 years agoNegative...I had it all dubbed to Digi beta ... the whole operation was a drag and according to some of my maverick genius Avid friends they reckon that niether Avid nor FCP handle this whole HD/HDV thing well...One fella uses this axion?? Is that the name? It's an ass-kicking card that does it in real time...The UK is still struggling with HD..Phil UKby Phil - Café LA FCP 5.1 straining using HDV? - 17 years agoI've got a G5 2 x 2.5 Ghz with 2 Gb SDRAM on Tiger 10.4.6 running FCP 5.1. I am capturing onto a Lacie Big Disk 1 Tb the Firewire 800. I also have to render everytime I drop a clip into a sequence set for HDV 1080i 50 in a project set for the same. I think it's the Lacie, it can't handle it but why do I have to render in the timeline? We have a G RAID so I will transfer the footrage to that andby Phil - Café LA |
