Phil...and thanks as always..by Phil - Café LA capturing audio from DAT player into FCP 5.1 - 17 years agoI need to capture audio (only) with timecode using a Sony PCM 70 40. The deck has a remote which has linked timecode to FCP which is great but I'm uncertain of the settings in prefs to get the audio in to FCP. I am running audio out into the XLR audio inputs fo a Decklink Extreme. The Decklink input settings are set to NTSC/PAL analog XLR. Can anyone exstrapolate on the remainder of the settingsby Phil - Café LA Re: FW Drives Any Preference - 17 years agoI enjoy the forums directness, from their advice we got a G RAID - happy as Larry but it has to be said, after numerous Lacie calamity's, the big disk extreme his holding it's own. However, the inputs etc on the G RAID look sturdy and twenty first century. I just got FCP 5.1 to work in all its glory so I feel like the man.by Phil - Café LA new instalation, no video signal - 17 years agoJust installed tiger 10.4.6 and the latest Quicktime and FCP5.1. All work fine. Installed Blackmagic DecklinK for FCP 5, no video signal which does not surprise me. I have tried numerous downloads and re instalations for decklink...nothing, no video signal...I hate this... Please help whoever can.by Phil - Café LA working with HDV and DVCAM in same film? - 17 years agoAbout to embarke on cutting the Camden Crawl (check it out) shot with HDV and DVCAM. How do I cut with both formats (same Timline?) on (possibly) new G5 w/FCP 5 (THE LATEST) .. no Blackmagic/aja card, just what is already there, can it be done? Will an HDV timeline render DVCAM footage as usable in the same timeline? Thanks..Phil UKby Phil - Café LA Re: Film School at NYFA or LAFS - 17 years agoI did a degree in film at a very elite school in London and all it taught me was that I love editing and to beware the nightmare of a production and raising money. I strongly feel that the real learning starts after film school as an assistant editor or whatever. In London (post production) you start as a runner in soho then VT operator to assistant editor then up....this has nothing to do withby Phil - Café LA Re: might be a dumb question, but... - 17 years agoI use uncompressed 8 bit, this is a tilte tool issue that was to be adressed and resolved in FCP 5.by Phil - Café LA Re: might be a dumb question, but... - 17 years agoFCP does not cut it really for me when it comes to fade ups and downs. They have not as much control as other editing systems I have worked on and they stutter when using layered GFX text. FCP 4.5 that is, and FCP 3. I'm still waiting for 5 upgrade.by Phil - Café LA Re: Urgent hard drive HDV issue - 17 years agoHi wayne, do you mean gamble on the Lacie and firewire 800? Phil UKby Phil - Café LA Urgent hard drive HDV issue - 17 years agoHave a job shot on HDV and am in the process of painfull upgrade to FCP 5 (which is taking time) and need to start HDV job. Have FCP 4.5, going to install Tiger 10.4 and use a friends FCP 5 disk as temporary measure while we wait for our new FCP disk from Apple. We have a Lacie big disk Extreme 1 TB but will get a G RAID due to the passionate recomendations I have recieved from this Phorum. FCP 5 apparently has fixed this.by Phil - Café LA Re: monitoring type - color correcting - 17 years agoBroadcast monitors sometimes need to be professionally re set - I work on a Sony and it needs re setting - there is adjusting that goes beyond the monitors menu system so if this persists seek advice from the suplier or a camera hire company.by Phil - Café LA Re: for Jude... - 18 years agoHi Jude...We all had this debate on the merits of being a musician and how it provides a good grounding for editing and you said you were a drummer. I still am a drummer only pure country..Alan Tyler and the Lost Sons of Littlefield is my band and we are amazing (if you like soulful country music)...see webpage...I'm on the campaign trail. I liked all the messeges sent on that particular thread.by Phil - Café LA Re: for Jude... - 18 years agoJude...Thanks...just what the doctor oredered. What music do you listen to?by Phil - Café LA Re: nattress film "older effect" tip - 18 years agoI second that, they are working amazingly well....the control over things like scratched and flicker etc..is ridiculously cool...as for the rest...man...by Phil - Café LA for Jude... - 18 years agoHi Jude, you mentioned a plug in from Digital heaven concerning cloning and tracking. We try our hardest but occasionally get flagged for small glitches and whatever (it's busy here) from our broadcast trafficker. All I need to do is remove the glitch with cloned patch (if possible) although this is only in the case of a real emergency. Could you elaborate - on these plug ins? Are they worth theby Phil - Café LA Re: Syncing video events with audio waveform spikes - 18 years agoYou are definately on the right track, that is what I do and I never mess it up. It is almost the same as having a clapper board. The snare will strike on 2 and 4 of the bar and thus the audio waveform will give a spike that is as tight as a nats whisker. phil...by Phil - Café LA Re: Importing DVD-video/audio ts files?? - 18 years agoI use hand brake to rip DVD and streamclip (it's quicker than FCP 4.5) to convert to uncompressed 8 bit. Works great and has audio.by Phil - Café LA Re: cloning & Tracking device in FCP - 18 years agoHi Nick...Cloning can remove glitches or whatever from a master tape. It happenned to me with an ad with after effects layers and footage. We used Photoshop to clone a piece of a layer and remove the unwanted bit. Tracking could provide cloning and repairs without having to do everything one frame at a time.by Phil - Café LA cloning & Tracking device in FCP - 18 years agoWould it not be great if FCP 5 ot whatever had a cloning and tracking device similar to Photoshop or Combustion particularly for last minute correctiuons using After Effects layer?by Phil - Café LA |
