I am going a bit crazy here and am already past my deadline. I am making a sort of "slideshow" to a classical music concert on FCP7. So I have a music track from the sound engineer all finished and am editing still tiff photos to this with zooms and cross fades. Thanks in advance to anyone reading this. I will be renting a Canon XF305 and a Canon XF205 for a 2 camera shoot. The camera records in 50Mbps MPEG2 codec. I have never worked with this before and am trying to figure out how to convert the footage so I can edit it in my FCP7.0.3. Many thanks in advance to anyone reading this. I am making a "slideshow" for a classical music concert. So I am taking still photo tiffs and am editing them into the timeline over the music. I am setting the timeline to Apple Pro Res422HQ, 30p, 1920x1080. (Just to be clear there is no video image to sync to the music.) In the menu I go to Export>Using Quicktime Conversion and use Apple Pro Res 422 HQ. The colors and contrasts are not the same as in my edit which is also in Apple Pro Res 422HQ. It is very frustrating as I spent hours color correcting my film and the output does not look as good as the video I see in the Fby Robert - Café LA Re: tif or jpg for photos used in video? - 4 years agoHi Dennis, Thank you for your reply. You are right, the jittery is only on the vertical edge/border of the photograph against the light gray background of the frame. The photo (on V2 track) does not fill the frame and I made the gray background (on V1 track) using Solid Color Matte. On some photos I go in motion from about 88% to 92%. Others are 80% to 84%. My photos are usually about 1300xby Robert - Café LA Re: tif or jpg for photos used in video? - 4 years agoHi Nick, Thanks for your reply. Yes I have rendered. In my sequences I have Motion Filter Quality: Best Render 10-bit material in high precision YUV. I also tried motion filter quality in "Normal" but it is not better. The edges of the image, which is smaller than the frame, are wobbly/shaky as FCP zooms in using motion tab functions. I made my files much smaller, about 2100px wide. I show the complete photo and when I do a 4% zoom in over 5.5 seconds, the edges of the picture wobble and jitter. Is there any way around this? Best regards, Robertby Robert - Café LA Re: tif or jpg for photos used in video? - 4 years agoHi Nick, Thank you very much for your help! I have tiffs. I scanned old prints on a flat bed scanner. So yes, staying with tiff sounds good. A few files I have as jpegs and yes it makes no sense to convert those to tiff. You say that if the images are very large, that FCP could struggle with the downscaling to 1920x1080px. My biggest images are 5200x3600pixels. Thank you for your experimentation Dennis. That is a very smart way to test it with the clock. I agree with Nick, that the duped 25 to 30p looks smoother than the dropped frames.
