Hello All! I am working on a MacBook Pro (OS 10.8), FCP 7.0 and have shot a video with a Sony HXR-NX5. This camera stores everything in AVCHD format. For editing I have already converted each clip to Apple Pro Res 422 using Log and Transfer in FCP. I need to send 2 of the long clips (about 4 hours in total) to another country. The converted clips in Apple Pro Res 422 are huge (about 240 GB)by Robert - Café LA

Hello Everyone, Thank you in advance for any advice. I am working on Final Cut Pro 7.0.3. I shot with a Sony HXR-NX5U - NXCAM camcorder for the first time. I set the camera to 1080 30p. The footage is all lumped together in one AVCHD file. I am using log and transfer to convert the individual clips to Apple Pro Res 422 (HQ) format and the audio to stereo. SO my question is what sequence prby Robert - Café LA

Sorry to bother you with 2 more questions but it would be a great help, especially Q1: Q1>As I said I had started editing with the h.264 clips. Hello Everyone, I have been trying to read up on this but still have some questions to you. I am feeling a bit lost here and am grateful to anyone with some advice. Computer: MacBook Pro 15inch, 2.7GHz Intel Core i7, with OS10.8. Editing on FCP 7.0.3. Thanks everyone for your replies. THe footage was shot in hdv (16:9) and edited in hdv. The place where the trailer is being screened only has a dvcam deck. Hello Everyone! we have edited an hdv trailer on final cut pro (final cut studio 2.0), shot on a sony z-7. It is of course in 16:9 anamorphic. Now we are trying to "print to tape" to dvcam on the Sony Z-7. We see the image on the camera's screen. BUT THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE IMAGE IS SQUASHED WITH A LETTER BOX ADDED IN THE ALREADY 16:9 SCREEN. We tried all possibilities in the mby Robert - Café LA

Hi Strypes! thank you so much for your response. Yes the weird thing is that when I put the .aif stereo file into the viewer I do see to waveforms for left and right. BUT in the patch bay I only get an "A1" tab, and NOT A1 and A2 tabs. Weird, huh?! Thanks, Robertby Robert - Café LA

Dear All, thanks in advance to anyone reading this. My sound guy mastered my sound and has sent me a stereo aif file. In the viewer I see both the left and right tracks. BUT the problem I have is that when I drag the .aif into the timeline it only occupies one audio track and not two. When I play the sound off of the timeline I only get one audio level, eg only left but not both left and rby Robert - Café LA

Hello Everyone, thanks to anyone in advance who reads this and who has any advice. Years ago I edited my 52 minute miniDV ntsc documentary on another computer with an older version of FCP. All I have now is the old quicktime from then onto which I will put the new soundtrack which has been updated. Now it will be broadcast in Europe. Thank you everyone for all the info! Jeff I agree with what you say. I noticed that happening when I tried it - ie that the shutters speed changed on its own. The salesman told me it must just be some setting that needs to be changed but I guess it is built in that way. Jeff or anyone, is there a way to convert the integer 30p (bad design - I agree) to a format that FCP can work with???by Robert - Café LA

Thanks guys for all of your generous advice. You are really helping me out a lot with my decision. I guess I will go for the older one. There is also the new 2.8ghz model but probably again .3Ghz is not that much faster I assume. It feels awkward to buy the older model when the new one came out. Thanks again everyone for your emails. Eric the 1199$ deal I found is also at a college campus. Hey Dave you mention "an anti-reflective coating for the glossy surface that Apple puts out. Iknow some people have asked about some of these issues in the past but I just wanted to get the most recent updates on how people feel about the new macbook pro. My Powerbook G4 (with FCP HD 4.5) has died and I now want to buy a new MacBook Pro and FCP6. I use FCP mainly for editing documentaries. Onby Robert - Café LA
