I am working on a MacBook Pro (OS 10.8), FCP 7.0 and have shot a video with a Sony HXR-NX5. This camera stores everything in AVCHD format. For editing I have already converted each clip to Apple Pro Res 422 using Log and Transfer in FCP. I need to send 2 of the long clips (about 4 hours in total) to another country. I am working on Final Cut Pro 7.0.3. I shot with a Sony HXR-NX5U - NXCAM camcorder for the first time. I set the camera to 1080 30p. The footage is all lumped together in one AVCHD file. I am using log and transfer to convert the individual clips to Apple Pro Res 422 (HQ) format and the audio to stereo. The place where the trailer is being screened only has a dvcam deck. This is why I need to output to a dvcam tape in 16:9. Thanks for the advice - will try what you guys said. It is of course in 16:9 anamorphic. Now we are trying to "print to tape" to dvcam on the Sony Z-7. We see the image on the camera's screen. BUT THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE IMAGE IS SQUASHED WITH A LETTER BOX ADDED IN THE ALREADY 16:9 SCREEN. Yes the weird thing is that when I put the .aif stereo file into the viewer I do see to waveforms for left and right. BUT in the patch bay I only get an "A1" tab, and NOT A1 and A2 tabs. Weird, huh?! In the viewer I see both the left and right tracks. BUT the problem I have is that when I drag the .aif into the timeline it only occupies one audio track and not two. I noticed that happening when I tried it - ie that the shutters speed changed on its own. The salesman told me it must just be some setting that needs to be changed but I guess it is built in that way. You are really helping me out a lot with my decision. I guess I will go for the older one. There is also the new 2.8ghz model but probably again .3Ghz is not that much faster I assume. It feels awkward to buy the older model when the new one came out. My Powerbook G4 (with FCP HD 4.5) has died and I now want to buy a new MacBook Pro and FCP6. I use FCP mainly for editing documentaries.
