Is it any good? - 17 years agoI've been reading through the amazing huge Shake Manuals and have yet to really master how to integrate Shake into my FCP-ing but the best thing by far(other than access to kickass keyers) has been the Smoothcam node... It does crop the image a little so resolution drops slightly but it when someone hands you crappy footage to integrate with clean footage, there's nothing better. One thing iby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Mixing HDV formats... - 17 years agoWell, i know my computer can handle it, i edit 1080i HDV frequently and have had no problem. I want to consolidate my source material to one format, hence my posting. Im just not sure on the best process...im sure i can figure it out on my own but i'd like to have a quick turnaround on this... And its for a band and the songs will be short so web size isn't an issue. Its more that they wantby Scott Erickson - Café LA Mixing HDV formats... - 17 years agoI have a shoot coming up that is going to be shot on multiple HDV formats and want to find out the best way to make everything work properly. All of my limited HDV projects have been from Sony cameras at 1080i and those will be used again. However, they are mixing those cameras(A1-U's for in-crowd shots) with JVC HD-100s for the main stage cams which shoot at 720p. What's the best way to get theby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: 16x9 dvd questions - 17 years agoI've been able to export at 16x9 settings through QT conversion and setting the pixels to a 16x9 variant(upresing to 1280x780) which gives me the 16x9 video i want but obviously looks not too good. I guess im just looking for advice on how DVD's interpret 16x9 footage and how anamorphic footage is best transfer to DVD in the right aspect ratio...by Scott Erickson - Café LA 16x9 dvd questions - 17 years agoIm having some issues with getting 16x9 format video to look good on dvd. I have DV footage shot in anamorphic, and when i output for iDVD, it squeezes it back to 4:3. Its shot, captured, and edited as anamorphic so i know its good but when i export to QT, self contained, current settings or choosing the anamorphic preset, iDVD squeezes it back. The iDVD project itself is 16x9 and when i dropby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Motion vs Efter Effects for "Ken Burns" - 17 years agoOnly 4 people who responded... Im sure they'll host it on the front page as a tutorial so people will see it for a long time... Come on, illuminate us in why after effect's camera is so powerfull, otherwise im gonna stay in Motion all the time...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Motion vs Efter Effects for "Ken Burns" - 17 years agoYou can basically replicate the bezier or Ease in/out functions of keyframes with the curvature function and end offset. Lets say you have a 20sec graphic. Start grow shrink 5 secs in and have it run to the end. Use end offset to pause the last 5 secs and than adjust the the curvature to make it ease in and out. Watch the scale in the keyframe editor to adjust with a visual representation...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Motion vs Efter Effects for "Ken Burns" - 17 years agoMotion is very very good for the Ken Burns effect and i'll tell you why. There are two tools that make this beautiful, Grow/Shrink and Throw. With throw you set up the speed of the pan regardless of keyframes. How far you want to move and where you start is up to you, just move the layer in the canvas, no resetting kayframes. Same thing with Grow/Shrink, find a slow steady speed and just adjustby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Panasonic AG-DVX100A - 17 years agoOn the dvx, 24p is essentially 30fps converted to 24p motion in the camera or to actual 24fps with the advanced frame removal(24pa on the dvx). Blackening tapes won't affect how you record. Although i must say if your shooting a non-controlled shoot, i recomend blackening tapes. I always keep some around... If you want the film look but want to edit everything normally with dv setting, shoot onby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: flash 8 to quicktime - 17 years agoFlash 8 includes the new Flash Video Encoder program, its a mini-compressor type program but with limited presets. They also introduced a new codec(on2 VP6) which is pretty decent quality and streams pretty well. However, the best part is you have the option to encode video with an Alpha channel for use in Flash. That's my next big project, I want to walk all over my website. Just need to set upby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: flash 8 to quicktime - 17 years agoOK, when im exporting from Flash 8 Professional(i don;t know if there is a difference for non-pro), I go to file - export movie then select quicktime video instead of just quicktime i personally use the animation codec since i use it to integrate with AE primarily but DV NTSC is there, her document size will determine the video size but you can scale up or down in the video options....by Scott Erickson - Café LA reconnecting media.. - 17 years agoI have a project where half the media has gone offline. Basically, the quicktime clips are still there but it seems like FCP has lost all connection with them. When i go to reconnect, FCP doesn;t remember the clip name and only calls it "," so i have to manually search for everyone. When i reconnect the clip in the bin, it doesn't update the clips in the sequences. So now i have to updaby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Magic Bullet and color correction - 17 years agoWhen i use magic bullet for FCP, i color correct first, then apply Magic Bullet. That way the whites you diffuse are really white, or if you're tinting the video, you're properly tinting. I think its just good to have the right base to work from. There is quite a lot of processing time required tho, especially if you're in HDV.by Scott Erickson - Café LA Massive Disconnect - 17 years agoRecently I opened a project file im working on that has hours and hours and hours of footage and got a disconnected media warning for 300 clips. Yikes right? Especially since nothing had changed on the drives. Anyway, When i got to reconnect the clips, all it shows for file name is a comma, even when i try to only reconnect one clip at a time. Even the clip name is there, the reconnect menu onlyby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Matching Audio - 17 years agoOK well then it sounds like I'm just going to make do with what i got. I guess i was just hoping for that magic filter that makes audio sound great. Maybe in the next version... We picked up the job maybe 3 days before the shoot and they assured us sound and lighting were taking care of since its a semi-large theater. We talked to theater manager afterwards and he said they only used a couple soby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Matching Audio - 17 years agoOK, thanks for everything so far, here's more details: It's a jazz band that played with special guests so no master cd tracks to pull from. Plus the guest trumpet player is the one who particularly did not use any mic. Certain instruments were mic'ed that do not come across on the camera mic, i.e. stand-up bass and piano, so i can't pick one track over the other. I'd like to just pump the shby Scott Erickson - Café LA Matching Audio - 17 years agoOK, I have some concert footage that was mic'ed rather improperly. Only certain portions of the band were properly mic'ed and the other mics were set up as solo mics only. Of course, certain musicians did not use the solo mics when they were supposed to. So now i am stuck having to mix the audio from the shotgun mic on the camera and the line feed from the board. The quality of these two is verby Scott Erickson - Café LA Shutter Speed Effect? - 17 years agoI have some night city footage that i would like to make more interesting. Specifically, some traffic timelapses, crowded people shots, spins, etc and I want to make it delayed and blurred out, i.e. like a slow shutter speed. Is there something in final cut that will let me do that? I've tried adjusting clip speeds and motion blue, delayed clip on top w/ diff composite modes, etc. Nothing reallby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: POLL : Do Lacies Actually Suck Or Not? - 17 years agoi have a 1tb lacie that has been working fine for 6 months. There is a quirk where sometimes it won;t mount to the comp but if you pull its power supply for a few minutes and try again its all there. Scary tho sometimes.. I have a 250 for a project from a client that crapped out but was resolved pretty easily with disk warrior so no data was actually lost. I have a g-raid as well but not so sureby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Standard DV from a Sony HDR-FX1 - 17 years agoOK, a few questions... Are you capturing from the fx-1 directly? what FCP are you using? You are positive it was shot in DV? Are you looking on a broadcast monitor? If you are using the fx-1, make sure the camera is set up properly. On the menu for playback set format to Auto. The blue light on the side will light up if its DV or HDV. FCP should recognize the camera through firewire, if it doby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: freelancing with desktop/laptop - 17 years agowow, i use my laptop primarily now except for long projects or when designing in Motion etc and i always carry my mighty mouse with me. It is such a help i don;t know how i'd go back. I have access to Expose and Dashboard instantly, don;t have to control click things, plus the scroll ball allows me to scrub timelines without clicking, even when its playing. When dealing with a small laptop screenby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Quicktime with Alpha - 17 years agoyou could use flash 8 perhaps..they have a very decent video encoder(On2 VP6) that retains your alpha. You'd have to export as Animation first tho if you don;t have premeire. Oh, After Effects 7 should haved it as well which is mac compatabile. Free trials are available on their websiteby Scott Erickson - Café LA Render times??? - 17 years agoJust out of curiousity, will render times vary depending upon the type of drive the media is on? Im compressing some video from a firedire over 800 and it seems to be taking longer than i would have expected, at least compared to my internal SATA media drive. Nothing huge but enough to get me to post this...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: the super meet was awesome - 17 years agoI have to say i was kinda let down by it actually. Not by the organization of it or prizes, etc, but just that i didn;t think there was a lot of substance to it. The most impressive moment was watching Mark Spencers Motion creations and that was it as far as user presentations. JVC's presentation was directly from their booth at Nab, RED didn;t really say anything of use, and the Apple guys whoby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: HDV Color Correction Export Issues - 17 years agowell the Monitor view in FCP is not full res and not a good indicative measure of color balance, pixels, etc. That's why you need an external broadcast monitor to accurately judge. I can;t tell if you have one or not in your post. Another option is to go all the way to DVD and see if it looks all right as thats your target medium. Im not sure you need to export a quicktime file first to go to coby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: check it..Some HDV/16mm/and DV mixed in one timeline.. - 17 years agowas that CA stuff at the ranch? kinda looked like it... clean up the logo reveal at the end and your goldenby Scott Erickson - Café LA |
