Click HERE to register now Re: HVX 200 Workflow - 14 years agoFrame Rate Converter is only for footage from a Varicam, where the slomo is achieved on tape, if its shot on an HVX, the camera reassembles the frames as standard 24P footage in camera so treat it no differently than normal footage. Its all 23.98 in FCP's eyes so use a standard set up. Go to DVXUser for details about both the HVX and RED...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Does DVDSP4 support 1080p - 14 years agoYes yes, this is my question as well! Same exact experience as you...my source footage is 1080p but when it plays back on all the diff machines ive tried, its super jumpy. As if its trying to take it from 24-30 poorly with interlacing. i really hope im missing something here, Apple has sooo little support for getting HD out of the studio and this seems like a great option but if its no 1080p,by Scott Erickson - DVD Studio Pro 23.98 to 29.97: 3:2 pulldown without a card? - 14 years agoOk, HVX200 footage shot at 720924N that i need to convert to DV anamorphic at 29.97 so i can send it over to someone else to edit. What's the best way to get a proper 3:2 pulldown QT file out without having a capture card? I can't find any good way in FCP or Compressor... =S=by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Animating a Map - 14 years agoIf you have Motion 3, just draw a path and animate it's start to finish, couldn't easier. Especially nice with all the line controls you have now.... =S=by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Option toggle? - 14 years agoahhh thank christ, Shift - L was what i was looking for, how have i managed not to ever hit shift L in the last 5 years? Thanks guys, i knew it was easy...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Option toggle? - 14 years agoThis has gotta be easy but where do i choose how linked clips are selected, either alone or together? i.e., video and audio are linked and you click once and they are all selected. Then if you only want to grab one track, you option click. Somehow my preferences got switched and now i have to option click to select linked clips and i cant for the life of me find out where to switch it back.by Scott Erickson - Café LA Quicktime X? - 14 years agoInteresting article....a ways away but wonder how it will affect the pro apps. It seems everything at Apple lately is all iPhone focused, i hope they remember us in this update.by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: O.T. Camera Considerations - 14 years agoYes but if you purchase the 200A you are getting far better chips which is the main problem in the 200 now, plus the 200a comes with a free 16gb P2 card in the box which is something to consider. Without a P2 card, its just a DV camera really and its oh so sweet to not have to shoot tape anymore...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Good shared Local Storage? - 14 years agoI'm on a SAN now but moving my team to a new off-site location. I want to get some local storage (3-5TBs) for us to work off and then back up nightly over AFP to our SAN. What storage solutions for multiple editors are people out there using? I looked at EditShare which was pretty sweet, Unity stlye project sharing but i know its gonna be expensive. G-Techs G-speed looks interesting, fibre onby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: YouTube Content Identification Program - 14 years agowow, you totally missed the point of this post. I have no complaints about the email, i know its copyrighted, thats not the issue. I think its neat that Google can search their database of x-millions of videos for a certain digital fingerprint of a song that i heavily cut and manipulated. I think its neat that UMG is taking a handsoff approach to using copyrighted materials across the inteby Scott Erickson - Café LA YouTube Content Identification Program - 14 years agoGot an interesting email last night...from YouTube "Dear YouTube Member: UMG has claimed some or all audio content in your video The Fog. This claim was made as part of the YouTube Content Identification program. Your video is still live because UMG has authorized the use of this content on YouTube. As long as UMG has a claim on your video, they will receive public statistics about yoby Scott Erickson - Café LA crappy edges on text dissolve - 14 years agoOK, created a basic title slate intro in Motion using text generators, bg is set to transparent and 16bit float, put the motion project in my DVCProHD timeline and dissolved from title to clip. Then i exported out using Compressor to ProRes HQ 1280x720 23.98 for our Masters and it looks like ass... As far as i know, this should be the highest quality output method but this obviously isnby Scott Erickson - Motion Re: Color and Multi-Clip - 14 years agoSay it aint so, Jude, say it so... Well i cant reconnect to those render files but it wont allow it because of audio tracks. Then i just brought the file over manually but it is completely out of synch and did not render the parts i needed. Thankfully, i can mostly re-created the look in FCP 3way and copy over the graded clips that work into my main sequence. I guess for the future i haveby Scott Erickson - Color Re: DVCPRO HD 1080i60 vs DVCPRO HD 1080p30 - 14 years agohmmm, thanks Koz for some of the background...im still a bit confused as to whats going on here tho. Let me be a bit clearer, since i noticed i didnt bring this up earlier. We're shooting P2 on the 500 and HVX's. We record at 108024pA and Log & Transfer all footage using the Remove Advanced Pulldown/Duplicate Frames. Footage i brought in last week on 6.0.2 listed 1080i60 as compressor aby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: DVCPRO HD 1080i60 vs DVCPRO HD 1080p30 - 14 years agoso the codec itself is progressive or interlaced then? so say if i shot 30p at 1080i60, it is interlacing the same image across the two fields? and if its 30p at 1080p30 is one progressive frame? It's all the same footage, shot at 108024pA. The only difference is now that we upgraded to 6.0.3 and Log&Transfer brings 108024pA footage using 1080p30 as its compressor instead of 1080i60 like iby Scott Erickson - Café LA DVCPRO HD 1080i60 vs DVCPRO HD 1080p30 - 14 years agoWhat's the difference between these two? I just noticed that in 6.0.3, FCP imports 108024pA P2 footage as 1080p30 instead of 1080i60 like it did before. Which seems like no big deal but now i cant multi-clip between the footage i just brought in because its "not the same codec". Its an easy workaround but i was just wondering the difference, if there was any really...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Color and Multi-Clip - 14 years agoIs color compatible with multi-clip? Because it seems to be giving me problems. I have a nice montage introduction that leads into an interview segment that was cut using multiclip. I collapsed the multiclip, removed all temporary filters, and sent to color. I did my grading, looks awesome, really appreciate having a nice vignette tool, render all the clips, and when i send back to FCP, all thby Scott Erickson - Color Re: Lost my Filters! - 14 years agosweet, looks like that didnt make it over in the migration. Thanks! =S=by Scott Erickson - Motion Lost my Filters! - 14 years agoIT upgraded our SAN and stations up to Leopard over the weekend and now i dont have any access to any filters in Motion. I've also been using them through FX plug in FCP and they are all missing as well. However, our shared storage for all FCS media didn;t change or anything and everything else still appears, except for filters! Only my local 3rd party filters are still around. Any idea whats goiby Scott Erickson - Motion getting from 30 to 23.98 - 14 years agoOK, i've been asked to mix a bunch of disparate media together and i want to make sure i do it right. I know FCP is open-format now but i dont want to be ignorant. The majority of the footage i shot at 720P 23.98 and thats what the sequence is set to. I have some stuff that is pure 24 but its not too long so im not too worried about audio drift. My main concern is i have some animation that isby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: 6.03 not compatible with 6.02?? - 14 years agoyeah i remember the lower dots being backwards compatible. like 4.5 and 4 obviously weren't but 6.0 and 6.0.1 were etc. I thought the 6.0.2 not working with 6.0.1 was somewhat of a big deal... anyway, no big deal, we got her XML exports this morning, just held us up a bit...by Scott Erickson - Café LA 6.03 not compatible with 6.02?? - 14 years agoI didn't think these two were incompatible but our east coast editor sent us a a project that is incompatible with ours? Is this a 6.03 update a problem or just a corrupt file giving us the too new format error?by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Editing with a distant producer - 14 years agoI think the time difference makes the live issue a bit hard to work with, as well as video chats not being of the highest quality or framerate, from what ive seen tho i havent tried it much so i cant say for certain but i doubt the quality is too high. H.264 doesnt take that long on an Octo, especially if you do a single pass VBR. I've compressed 5hrs of content in 40 mins. That works well enoby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Operation not Allowed -- WTF?! - 14 years agoNo, these are fairly small projects, just short studio stuff cut down into two or three segments. I did just upgrade to 6.0.2 on my home machine since the network just did as well but my macpro has been on 6.0.2 for a while. Anyway, back on my G5 last night things seemed to go smoothly, tho i saved like a maniac. Still not sure what the issue if but for now im crossing my fingersby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Operation not Allowed -- WTF?! - 14 years agoNo, no stills in this one but i did just get a new graphics package from them since they updated this show since i last cut for them. But its all video, NTSC and a few Animation clips, all SD. Perhaps the transfer process corrupted something? Im just pissed that its messing up one sequence at a time while the others still work... perhaps i'll take all the clips the gave me and re-encode theby Scott Erickson - Café LA Operation not Allowed -- WTF?! - 14 years agoOk this is really strange... Contract work, at home on my G5, start getting problems where the Canvas turns red, says close and reopen to re-enable functionality, so i do and then i can't reopen the sequence! It says Operation Not Allowed, i click through, and it says Out of Memory. Now this is an old machine but all the drives have plenty of headroom, i safe boot, repair permissions, trashby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: HPX-3000 - 14 years agoThere's a whole lot of technical info we are missing here...24p on a camera like the HPX doesnt mean a whole lot as there are probably 6 24p settings. The camera can shoot in a standard 3:2 interlaced setting, it can shoot in a 24pA setting which pulls down nicely to a native 23.98 timeline during p2 import(if settings are enabled) or it shoots 24pN in which the camera does the pull down internalby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: output Quicktime First then Compressor vs output thru FCP into Compressor - 14 years agoIf you want the best quality, I always export from FCP using Compressor first to a high quality format like ProRes HQ before encoding to web/dvd/etc. It pulls the original source material and exports at the highest quality. All text generators and filters will be processed at 4:4:4 and if you used Motion for title, it will go to what whatever your project colorspace was, up to 32bit. While itby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Compressor fails, no explanation - 14 years agoIn your finder, hit Go to Folder and type this in /Var/spool/Qmaster Delete everything in this folder, empty the trash, and then Open Compressor and in the Compressor Menu Hit Reset Background Processing. That should take care of most issues... =S=by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: HDV to the web - 14 years agoWhat i've found is that H.264 really doesnt like to do frame resizing very much so i resize all my web content to the delivery size and then transcode to H.264. So pick your delivery size, if there's graphics in your timeline, export out of FCP using compressor, if not, just take your SCQT into compressor and export to a high quality codec (Uncompressed/ProRes/etc). Then take that and compressby Scott Erickson - Café LA |
