It definitely shows up in the FCP renders, but upon export through Compressor(how we get out of FCP), it turns out fine. I guess its just a display bug in FCP which is annoying but since its not a crucial part of the design, i can live with it. Next time i'll make the photographer delivery consistent media dby Scott Erickson - Motion Drop Zone Conundrum - 15 years agoSo im trying to make a proper template for my editors to use for this project but the drop zone behavior is being very non-reliable and making me question the viability of this entire process. This is my template and, as you can see, I assign the entire right hand portion of the screen for a drop zone. All the pictures we're using are scaled to be under 550 pixels so they should all fitby Scott Erickson - Motion P2 Import problems... - 15 years agoOK, copied over all my cards, they're sitting on the drive, but certain clips wont import! In the status menu, i get the exclamation point stop sign warning. So I right click and then i can say retry/remove. When i retry it, or bring it into the que again, the import bar goes far too fast for the length of clip that it is and then it sits and spins for a bit, and goes back the stop sign warniby Scott Erickson - Café LA FCP Temp projects? - 15 years agoThis just started popping up on our SAN lately. In the folder where our editors store their project files, I've been seeing temp projects appearing. They look like this: fcp-temp-2959853648 They keep incrementing as if they were autosaves but they obviously look different in naming conventions. I'm thinking maybe its the temp copy when people hit save and somehow FCP fails to save over itby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Using Compressor for the first time - 15 years agoMPEG-2 is video only...you need to add a different export setting for audio what you can do is go into your Apple Settings for DVD export and then drag the entire folder onto your clip and it will apply all the settings in that folder, which includes audio settingsby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: P2 - BIG PROBLEM - NEED HELP !!! - 15 years agoThere is a 30pN setting on the HVX as well as the 30p it sounds like your guy used. It's a neat trick to get longer recording times without being in 24. My suggestion for this is Compressor. Test out a clip and use the Advanced Format Conversions setting for whatever DVCProHD setting you want to get to and pray. This saved my ass on some improperly pulldowned 24p footage. Depending on much fooby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Project too new? - 15 years agoInterestingly enough, the project she sent over email worked, this one was shipped over on the harddrive itself. 6.0.2 is def only compatible with with 6.0.2 but thats what im on so thats the real issue...when she gets back from MacWorld im gonna have her zip it and set it over again...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Project too new? - 15 years agoI'm on 6.0.2 which is as far as i know the newest version of FCP but an editor just sent me a project that gives me an error that says "this project is too new or unreadable." Does this make any sense? As far as i know, she is on 6.0.2 as well since ive never had to upgrade her project files in the past... Just curious if anyone has run into this... =S=by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: I want to cut on Air in the water - 15 years agoexactly, this is Apple trying to get in the business set, just like the iPhone. I'm sure they will do gloriously.... I'm hoping for something substantial for us at NAB... =S=by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Where to put Color render folder - 15 years agoyou can change the default for Color to be on your media drive or you can choose on a project by project basis in the project settings, if you want to keep them in a specific folder for the project...by Scott Erickson - Color Color Training tutorial up on Lynda.com - 15 years agoAnyone confused by Color's interface can check out this title on Lynda.com to help you get up and running. Helps you get up and running at least, understand what's going on with the interface, etcby Scott Erickson - Color Re: AVC INTRA CODEC - 15 years agoI know that you can capture HDV as ProRes on a G5 now so not sure if thats really the issue. I know back in the day i used to have to use iMovie to transfer HDV to AI and that's still what it iMovie uses. Perhaps you can use that work around to get your AVC clips on your system as AI. Better than nothing!by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Anyone running FCS2 on a Powerbook G4? - 15 years agoyeah my powerbook runs the whole suite, sans Color, with no problems. Most of my latest jobs have all been DVCProHD and while Motion hesitate a whole lot more than i'd like, FCP handles everything just fine. All the other enhancements have made it worth it.. =S=by Scott Erickson - Café LA Drop Shadow Copy/Paste - 15 years agoIs there a way to batch apply the same drop shadow settings to a large amount of clips? I have a bunch of keyed talking heads and we want to see if a slight blurred out drop shadow will help at all but i dont want to manually apply it to all 50 clips... Their top layer or group doesnt allow me to access the drop shadow settings like i thought and i dont know how to make it a favorite settingsby Scott Erickson - Motion Re: Leopard and FCS - 15 years agoDon't forget, there's always Export to XML if you need to get something back into an older format...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Compressor fun... - 15 years agohey adolfo, explain how you set the yet to exist output of a job as a source for another, im not sure how to do that. That would really be nice as i've found H.264 handles resizes very poorly, it simply likes to switch codecs. So i master to ProRes at my web size and then switch. I'd sure be handy to chain it along, i was just thinking about a feature like that earlier today..by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Compressor fun... - 15 years agoBatch monitor is just that, it monitors the batches. It has no effect on what is going on. Same thing with activity monitor. If compressor goes screwy, here;s an easy way to get back to square one: In finder, go to the Go menu, select Go to Folder and type /var/spool/qmaster. Delete the files inside and empty your trash. Open Compressor and in the Compressor menu, select reset background proceby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: How can FCP6 do this to me? - 16 years agothey come in automatically distorted because final cut thinks there is something wrong with it and auto corrects. Sounds like if its a self-contained 1280x720 than there is something wrong with it. An easier way of dealing with that is to try and remove attributes and see if there is anything applied to it. You can do this for lots of clips instead of just the individual clip properties...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Compressor doesn't seem to be stopping! - 16 years agogo into your finder and under the Go drop down select Go To Folder, cmd-shift-G, and enter this: /var/spool/qmaster/ Then delete everything in that folder and empty your trash. Then back in Compressor, under the Compressor drop down, hit Reset BackGround processing. This will give you a clean start with everythingby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: JPG Photo's in Motion - 16 years agoThis is because Motion thinks its a image sequence, there is a little button at the bottom of the file browser near the add new folder button that looks like a series of squares, click this and it will uncollapse the image sequence and should reveal all your stillsby Scott Erickson - Motion Re: applying effects to multiple clips in browser - 16 years agoThere's is also nesting or exporting a reference movie and bringing it back in. My last job the client sent me letterboxed footage(for broadcast too, i don;t know why its LB) and asked me to integrate a whole grip of stills and website screen-capture footage. I nested that timeline so i can design the still movements etc in the full screen sequence and then quickly check their position back inby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Scott Erickson, a God, sent me this "how to set up your Mac for Virtual Clusters" easy instructions. - 16 years agowow, i'm honored, i never thought i would get all caps. The way to avoid any network issues like what James mentioned is to make sure when you submit that the button that says include unmanaged services on other computers is unchecked, then it keeps everything strictly local. The even cooler trick is if you are on a network and have all your computers with 4 instances and then build your oby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Problems with Compressor 3 and ProRes422 and with DVDSP and ProRes422 - 16 years agoi def wouldn't go to Leopard to fix something like this, this is not Leopard related. It could very well be related to 6.0.2 tho i havent seen anything like that yet. I would trash preferences, do a safe boot, and repair permissions, and then start up and try it again. That usually takes care of minor glitches for me. If you cant get anything, there's always a re-install. Urgent Update! - 16 years agoInterestingly enough, that corrupt clip was less corrupt than the captured clip. It played back fine so I scaled it up to full raster using Compressor and Frame Controls and it looks just as good as the full res stuff, just slightly noisier. Anyway, it got me enough footage to pass on to the director so its good enough for me. I was trying to get Shane to make one, I've been using P2 for overby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: 59.94 to 23.97!! Urgent Update! - 16 years agoThis is covered in my first post, we captured this way because we had no way to transfer data, only a signal. The "director" was supposed to bring in his PowerBook and I didn't know about Target Mode until this morning. We captured over 4hours of footage this way and it worked beautifully, i did the conversion to 23.97 in Compressor, and all my footage is just dandy, other than thisby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: 59.94 to 23.97!! Urgent Update! - 16 years agoOK, now im running into a major major problem... Today's workflow is going great with Log and Transfer through the camera, straight to 23.98 no problem. Everything from yesterday went through Compressor beautifully to 23.98. Except for one clip. I captured using Capture Now through firewire while playing off the card but somehow the stream got messed up or the camera played back poorly. Itby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: 59.94 to 23.97!! Urgent - 16 years agoWell yes, i guess you're right but im just going to thank everyone equally, it'll def make today's shoot a whole lot easier. Hopefully the PCMCIA adaptor will get approved for purchase after this, luckily i had my own camera with me so we can make this shoot work...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: 59.94 to 23.97!! Urgent - 16 years agothis is a most wonderful solution i was not aware off...I knew you could connect to a harddrive and have it offload in card-sized sections but not that it would act as a mountable drive, once again, thank you Shane...there really needs to be a training title on all the intricacies of P2 and other HD formats, hint hint... To get into target mode tho, for those of you who care, you have to bootby Scott Erickson - Café LA |
