Do people just use a pulldown off a deck for varicam footage? I'm obviously not familiar with broadcast cameras...but i do love my HVX. Just need my boss to buy the PCM-CIA converter for the MacBookPro. Anyway, i did a test on with Compressor and it seems to have done everything properly.by Scott Erickson - Café LA 59.94 to 23.97!! Urgent - 15 years agoWe've been shooting in 24pN on the HVX but do not have a P2 store or any computer that can take the P2 slot so we've just been capturing off an additional HVX through firewire. The only problem is that the feed over Firewire is 59.94 since its translating the native 23.97 to broadcast spec. So now i need to get back to 23.97 for editing and to save some disk space! The problem is the DVCPby Scott Erickson - Café LA FCP 6 Frame Rate Issues... - 15 years agoOK, i have three sources, 2 sources are 24fps and one is 29.97. One source was DVCProHD 23.98 transcoded to ProRes 24fps. The other was captured directly as ProRes 24fps. The third is standard DV NTSC 29.97. They all need to live happily in one timeline. I was hoping FCP's open format timeline would save the day but im having some issues. Im using the audio from my ProRes 24fps as my master trby Scott Erickson - Café LA HD Scan Converter - 15 years agoWhat's the best way to get HD content off a monitor using hardware only? All the scan converters i saw were all SD and mostly designed for laptop to projector. I'd like to get some HD footage of a computer screen without using software or simply shooting the screen... I remember Matrox was giving something out of DVI to HD component for monitoring, is this something we can use? hooked up to aby Scott Erickson - Café LA Config Error - 15 years agoThis is a new one to me... Configuration Error This Software requires certain hardware or software which is missing: Quartz Extreme support This on an older PPC machine that used to run FCP just brilliantly, now we pulled it out to become a render station and FCP wont launch, just the error. Any ideas? Im not exactly sure what Quartz Extreme support is or why its missing...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Living Car-Free - Current TV - 15 years agoThis is my most recent piece for Current TV, shot it all on my HVX in one day on one 16Gb p2. This color-grade I did in FCP because I've still yet to have time to figure out Color but i hope to go back to this one when i have time. Anyway, I thought it turned out pretty well. Let me know what you think... =S= If you want to see the quality of the HVX, I can send you a link to downloadby Scott Erickson - Show and Tell Re: Export TO Powerpoint - 15 years agoAnother thing you can do is pony up for Flip for Mac pro, or whatever version allows you to export WMVs and to the same process as above, but choose WMV from the format dropdown. Then pick a setting that is older and less compressed so the comp can play it easily. Also make sure in your powerpoint that you save it as a powerpoint package. That way it will package the movie files in a bundle wby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Export TO Powerpoint - 15 years agoGo to File > Export > Using QT Conversion. Then select QT movie as format and the under Use:, select LAN/Intranet. It will give you a High Quality file that will fit nicely in Powerpoint/Keynote/etc. I hope you have a recent version of Powerpoint because video integration is not too great in the older versions. Your presenting machine must have QT7 on it as well to get video playbackby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: A Camera Question - 15 years agoahh camera threads. first off, while the DVX does shoot widescreen, as do most other DV cameras, you do want something HD capable. The HVX is a beautiful camera and extremely versatile format wise yet P2 does require a good deal of planning. If you're up to a tapeless workflow, its the way to go. However, its not cheap and you could prob pick up two Sony HDV cameras for close to the same pby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Transcoding/Upconverting HDV - 15 years agoDoing anything in HDV takes forever, including transcoding. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a small amount of material. One thing you can do to speed up your workdflow is edit as HDV but in your Sequence settings, under Render Control, select your render codec as ProRes instead of Same as Sequence. All your renders will be in ProRes now instead of HDV, and therefore take less time. FCby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: DVX 100A - 15 years agoThe DVX puts in the pulldown when it was recorded, it doesn;t matter where you capture from.by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: flash to Quicktime - 15 years agoI diasgree, i think FCP handles non-standard sequences pretty well. I've done a bunch of screen capture work and banner-esque web-video work and it worked out fine as long as the sequence if configured properly, even easier now with FCP 6 or the old multicam sequence trick. I've even editing Mpeg-4 iPod content and it held great. Also, for coming out of Flash, it depends on the flash comp butby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Compressor 3 Multi-Core Trick - 15 years agoWell, its mostly designed to make Quads and Octos to act like several Dual-cores so starting at a Dual core is pretty much worthless. However, you shouldn't be compressing a multi-clip, you should flatten your multiclip in FCP. Also, do all your compression outside of FCP, its much faster in Compressor and better quality as well.by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Compressor 3 Multi-Core Trick - 15 years agoSure thing, I'll put in the Exporting Section and add some more test results...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Compressor 3 Multi-Core Trick - 15 years agoJust wanted to share this with everyone here since there isn't a Compressor forum and this should really be better known. I'm working on a new Dual Quad core(i.e. 8 core, octo, etc) and wasn't really impressed with the encoding performance gains. I could never really get my cores to bump much above 50% so i did some research. Basically, Compressor cant really distribute all that processingby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: What flavor of HD should we teach with? - 15 years agoHDV is going to be your easiest cheapest access to HD content, it can also be squeezed down by the camera and captured through firewire to be DV if you'd like. Cheap and easy, just harder on the processor. Most broadcast is DVCproHD or higher but i HDV will still be very useful in the real world, the real world isnt always broadcast...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: FCP 5.1.4 to 6.1 conundrum... - 15 years agoyeah like i said, they are clean. I even did a clip properties comparison with clips that worked or needed render and they are the same...very bizarreby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: FCP 5.1.4 to 6.1 conundrum... - 15 years agoNope, no luck. I did Clip Enable before but forgot about disconnect media. Still, it didnt help sorryby Scott Erickson - Café LA FCP 5.1.4 to 6.1 conundrum... - 15 years agoWe are experiencing a very strange issue when taking some older projects up to 6.1. Here;s the We're working with all screen capture footage, animation codec, and the sequence is set to match. No renders needed. Everything works fine when it was in 5.1.4, our new stuff all works fine in 6 as well. This clips are raw, no filters or motion adjustments, just cuts. BUT... we take a 5 projecby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Downconverting from 1440 to 720SD..How's it done? Need help ASAP. - 15 years agoDropping an HDV clip into an SD timeline introduces a field shift filter automatically to deal with the dominance issue. Export a reference movie from your HDV sequence and drop that in a SD time(btw, 480 not 720, HD is 1080 or 720, SD is 480). Then render your hearts delight. It will take a while but its the nature of the beast with HDV... =S=by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: How usefull is compressor when it matters ? - 15 years agoWhat version of Compressor are you using? We frequently compress batches up to 50 or more regularly without problem. We export both out of FCP directly or from dropping QT's in from Finder. Additionally, we used compressor 2 for a long time and now on our 8-cores with Compressor 3 and things have gotten much much faster, tho i sincerely hate the new interface. So, it seems like you need an updby Scott Erickson - Café LA OT- DLT- How to - 15 years agoWithout purchasing a DLT setup, what's the best way for me to get content onto a DLT for mailing out to a replication company. are there post-type houses for this? most our projects were simply duplication, not replication and now they want DLT so...just curious what the options are...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Long Render times in FCS 2 - 15 years agoJust wondering if anyone has experienced a very noticeable increase in render times for Motion projects inside of FCP 6 and Motion 3? Ever since upgrading, we've had some serious render lag on our Motion L3rds, using Master Templates or individual saved out projects. At first I thought it must be due to some server issue when the templates we're redesigned for the Master Template implementatioby Scott Erickson - Motion Re: 17 hours of rendering gone in a flash - 15 years agoOK, well i have had FCP projects go sour on me and lose links to my media and renders so thats why i suggest autosave. However, it sounds like you got more issues going on like what Derek is saying. I would suggest a blend of Dereks and my suggestions, how bout trying to export part of the autosave project that contains a color-free render bar, hopefully your old renders. All you've mentionedby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: A good sign for web video quality - 15 years agoa very good sign, here's some specifics from an Adobe Engineer.... The best news is that H.264 will be nearly ubiquitous eventually....by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: 17 hours of rendering gone in a flash - 15 years agoTry your auto-save vault. Open a project from late last night when the renders were there and see if it reconnects properly then. Then you just have to re-add your l3rds which will probably take a lot less than 17hrsby Scott Erickson - Café LA Losing Text formatting in FCP... - 15 years agoI love Motion, dont get me wrong, but its making me want to kill myself. I got used to the small text nudges it would make but since upgrading to Motion 3, it is completely losing my formatting and collapsing my lines of text all back into the first one! It only does it when i apply it to the FCP timeline, forcing me to go back into Motion, reapply my formatting, and then save again... It would be great if bins that we're created by dragging in Finder folders, would update themselves live to whatever was in that finder folder. Or at least with the click of a button. Basically Smart Bins... Don't get me wrong, I love Apple's software, but Adobe has had training releases at Lynda.com concurrent with their public-Alpha releases. All this while most trainers get Final Cut Studio when everyone else gets them, their shipping date. It seems Adobe places more importance on getting users up to speedby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: YOUTUBE VIDEO QUALITY - 15 years agoThis was a great guide, i def noticed an improvable quality when trying this... Also, if you have access to an FLV encoder, you can compress with your own settings and upload an FLV directly to youtube with no transcoding, as long as its under 100mg and 320x240, supposedly...by Scott Erickson - Café LA |
