See i was overlooking something... Shift arrow is a good way to go derek, thanks, i did know that but didnt think about... thanks guys...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Set in-out duration through keyboard.... - 16 years agoOK, this is one thing i miss from my Discreet Logic days, the abilitie to set an In point, hit a keyboard command, type in a duration, and then have a Out point created to match my input, allowing me to delete a specified section of time with out moving my mouse. The work im doing now requires a lot of removing of short intervals and i'd rather do it from the keyboard rather than moving my mouby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Motion Blur...doesn't. - 16 years agoMotion has the trails effect which might be more what you're looking for, maybe wide time as well. They might work better the what final cut can offer. Maybe put a directional blur on them as well... Basically, its not so random as i'd like it to be. While it is a dby Scott Erickson - Motion Re: Couldnt Find My Question... maybe you guys can help - 16 years agoThe DVX is a fantastic camera but there is nothing really special about its capturing footage shot at 24p. 24pA is different, only use 24pA if you want to edit in 24(23.98 really) and use normal 24p if you want the film look. When capturing, look under Capture Presets as there is a setting for this called Advanced 2:3:3:2 Pulldown. When you look at the clip it will say 23.98 as opposed to 29.97.by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: O.T. DVDSP4 No slideshow icon - 16 years agoI dont think you're doing anything wrong. If it's appearing in the list, it should appear in the graphical. If it doesn't, its a glitch of some sort. Move things around in the graphical viewer to make sure its not covered, zoom way out to see if it got lost. Or just link a button to it and see if it works in the simulation. I've been doing to digital desktop playback so i can get a larger view for checking shots, etc. Thats when i notice it the most... Like i said, this is just the rough cut, getting the best shots from the shoot laid out, the final edit will be on our G5 and will def be checked on a broadcast monitby Scott Erickson - Café LA Color Shift?? - 16 years agoWorking with some DVCProHd footage and doing some rough layouts on my powerbook. When ever i do the digital desktop display, there seems to be a big difference of color when the image is stopped or playing back. I know DV will clip the highlights on playback and am wondering if this is the same thing except with chroma? Also, which image is showing the correct color? i.e. which will be more accurby Scott Erickson - Café LA Smart De-interlacing??? - 16 years agoI know a lot of people who do their deinterlacing in AE instead of in FCP because it doesnt just toss the extra fields and replicate up but my question is does Motions Deinterlacing interpolate do the same thing? or should i still find a better way to deinterlace video, ala AE, plug-ins, Shake, etc??by Scott Erickson - Motion Re: Sony A1U/A1P/A1E - 16 years agoexactly, it handles low light very poorly but can easily intercut with a z-1 in good conditions, the zoom and iris controls are straight out of the consumer world so they leave much to be desired but it's size and audio capabilitys make it worthwhile. I slap a nice fat wideangle lens on it and its a great small HD-capable camera...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Anamorphic problems....HELP!!!! - 16 years agoEven if the DVD is just for client check, i'd still go through Studio Pro with all the 16x9 settings. Do a constant bit-rate single pass encode and it doesnt take very long and will mux and burn to disc with out seriously slowing your editing performance. Theres no reason to go to an analoge signal with crappy built in menus when Studio Pro is so easy. Although, if you need to, im sure there is sby Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Unsatisfying results on final DVD output - 16 years agostudio pro will take a non-converted file if you throw it at it but will simply do the conversion there as specified by the preferences pane, compressor allows you much more detailed controls, presets, and the ability to do batch conversions....by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: Unsatisfying results on final DVD output - 16 years ago"FasterOutput/3.7Mbps/1-pass/filter-contrast+5> for DVD viewing copy. " That's not a particularly high bitrate and one pass is not the way to get a quality encode. How much source material do you have? If its under an hour, go ahead and crank your bitrate up to 6 or 7mbps and do dual pass cbr encode. It'll take longer but it will get you quality. The way to make it work while the laptop is closed is to hook up an external monitor and mouse, close the laptop and let is go to sleep, than wake it up with the mouse, that way you can work with the lid closed. Not sure why you want it closed but thats the way to do it.by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: DV Expo LA 2006 What fascinated you? - 16 years agoIm pretty sure FlipforMac does not do Flash 8 files...at least it doesnt say so on their site although i didn;t talk to anyone at their booth. Its primarily for making WMV files right?? Thats the only export codecs they listed. Maybe they can import a FLV file for conversion to WMV but i dunno It was def interesting to see Sorenson being run, although i couldn;t see any real need for it, mostlby Scott Erickson - Café LA More Jerkyness... - 16 years agoThis time im getting jerkyness without the bloom filter, but with the gloom filter! Problem is, this time the gloom filter makes the entire piece and can't be turned off. I turned on Fixed Resolution(which is an awesome trick btw) and nothing helps. There has to be away to animate text smoothly with these filters on. Is AI still the 4:2:0 color space or something different? Will motion graphics work better in this over normal HDV? Could someone help explain the difference between these? thanks...by Scott Erickson - Café LA Re: exporting an anamorphic quicktime - 16 years agoOK, ive been working alot in anamorphic because it just looks better than DV and alot of my stuff is for web. Here's my settings. First of all, make sure everythings edited properly as Anamorphic in FCP, i run into this all the time with people unsure and are dropping Ani-clips into 4x3 timelines. I thought it could be the font since its one i just downloaded but that doesn;t effect it, i even took off the grow/shrink effect and keyframed it and the motion is totally crappy. So then i narrowed it down to the effects. Turns out the bloom filter was causing it. I tried applying the effect to a container layer and not directly but that didn't help. I could make the text in photoshop and import as rasterized but then the drop shadow effect look bad, any ideas? Mark? HDV capture problems... - 16 years agoOK well that worked, although not quite sure how, fcp was giving me messages that to capture HDV it must be in HDV Firewire device control and that was giving me 20clips for 20 mins of footage with all the drop frames. anyway, i guess sometimes going back to basics and letting FCP take over works...thanks...by Scott Erickson - Café LA HELP!
