Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Timecode generator - 18 years agoYou have to nest your sequence into another sequence. Then the TC generator will remain constant throughout. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: digitize xdcam - 18 years agoIn June, Sony is releasing a support app for XDCam. I saw it at NAB. It loads the proxy clips from the XDCam disk onto your computer. From there you'll see thumbnails of all the MXF files and be able to play and decide which ones you want. You can also mark INs and OUTs to bring in only a portion of a clip. You build up a playlist and then import them all directly into FCP from the XDCam disby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Could someone check me re my workflow? - 18 years ago<<These are my own projects, but if I was charging some guy money, then I probably wouldn't do this.>> The point of having someone check your workflow would be to determine a way of editing that you would use all the time for your stuff or someone elses. Personally I use the same basic organizational structure for my own projects as I do for paying gigs. Where your current workflowby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: AFTER EFFECTS FCP WORKFLOW - 18 years agoUse AAF export out of FCP and into AE. Render out AE in the same codec that you use in FCP. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Blanking error - 18 years agoMy best guess is the deck then. Some minor dirt or imperfection on the heads maybe? If you have another deck it's worth checking out. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Blanking error - 18 years agoI heard there's a VITC mask filter standard in FCP 3.0. You should look into it. :-) Andy PS: Sorry to make fun; I just had to dust off my old FCP 2 disks. I miss the video target buttons.by Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Render times??? - 18 years agoCompressing and rendering are not the same thing. If you're compressing or using compressor, I heard that it's faster to have the output file saved to a different drive from the source. That would seem to make sense to me so that Compressor isn't using the same bus to read the source and write the new file. Unless of course both drives are FW drives because they would be using the same bus regby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: stuttering stills - 18 years agoIf the stills are from a digital camera you don't need to de-interlace because there are no fields. However, I feel as if I'm missing something. What is "Photo to Movie"? Is that some kind of program? If you are resizing in Photoshop, then that's all you need to do before importing them into FCP. Something tells me that your intervening steps are what is giving you problems. To whby Andy Neil - Café LA Stripping an alpha in FCP??? - 18 years agoIs there a way inside FCP via a plug-in or other filter to strip an embedded alpha from a quicktime movie? Specifically, I have gotten an embedded graphic in Animation codec from my GFX dept. I brought it into FCP for sound design and now have to provide a video element and a separate black and white matte element to the production dept. I spent some time trying to figure this out in FCP and iby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: failure to Import m2v to fcp HD - 18 years agoFCP doesn't play m2v files. You should convert them to .mov files. Try using Compressor to convert the files to an FCP friendly format. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: stuttering stills - 18 years agoThis kind of problem has a long and storied past on this forum. The first question anyone here will ask (as will I) is: Are you viewing the stills on an NTSC or other external monitor, or on the Canvas of your computer? Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: final cut pro bashing thread? - 18 years agoI agree with John, but conditionally. At work we use a Panasonic AJ-D295, capturing 25 or 50 bit through FW by hitting Capture Now and then pressing play. Never had a problem. However, on my AJ-D230H at home, trying that tact gets me dropped frames error messages. It might be due to the computer (G4 vs G5 at work), or the deck, but at home I press play first. Solves a lot of issues. Of couby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: final cut pro bashing thread? - 18 years agoFCP could be reading a TC break as a symptom of not being fully compatible with your camera. Not sure if that's the case or not. If you don't have TC breaks on your tape, why don't you try log and capture instead of capture now? If you must capture now, try this: press play on the camera BEFORE hitting the capture now button. The TC break that FCP is reporting might be due to an inconsistancby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: the super meet was awesome - 18 years agoSince this was my first supermeet, I spent too much time in my seat and not enough time meeting people. I think the only person I got to meet from this forum was Michael. Good meeting you Mike, BTW. I'll have to remember to wander during the presentations a bit more especially if they're just going to be like the NAB booths. At least I got to vent to Apple. That was kinda fun. I just know tby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Black and White - 18 years agoGraeme, could you go into a little detail about using the RGB mixer plugin for BW? I've often heard about this technique, but am not really aware of how you specifically apply it to your clips. Do you desaturate first and then apply the RGB plugin? Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Subtitles - 18 years agoYeah Mike, if you're talking about Title 3D, then you just missed a check box. Look for the drop shadow icon tab on the left side of the window. Click on that, and then click one of the boxes (T1, T2, etc.) to activate the drop shadow. All the controls are there. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: I received avi files on a dvd from the UK - how do I import them into FCP5? - 18 years agoHow did you capture them? Did you mean to say that you imported them? Import and capture are two completely different things. Importing uses and doesn't change the original file. Capturing creates new media which may or may not be based on the same settings as the original file. If you imported them, I'd say your problem is that you're trying to use AVI files. FCP doesn't really like them.by Andy Neil - Café LA Re: the big meet - 18 years ago<< Looking forward to meeting the Head Cutter and the Seven Gurus.>> That sounds like a Grimm's fairy tale to me... Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: the big meet - 18 years agoI've always had to get out of town Wed AM and get back to SD, but this year I was able to finagle (sp?) an extra day so I'll finally be able to go this year. I've lurked so long on this forum, but never been to a meeting for various reasons so I'm excited to be able to hopefully put some faces to all the posts I've read. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Linear to non-linear confusion... - 18 years agoNo prob. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't reading you wrong. I learned on linear deck to deck machines and Moviola flatbeds myself. I completely understand where you're coming from. Maybe it'd help to think of splicing in the context of film splicing. That is, after all in FCP, it's digital origin. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: OT: Matrox is back in the FCP game - 18 years agoAs a not-so-proud owner of the Matrox RTMac... "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Linear to non-linear confusion... - 18 years agoA basic splice will push all your tracks down the timeline. Is the interview cut in a separate sequence or does it appear as just a clip? If a clip, then mark in and out in the viewer and hit F9 to splice it in the timeline. everything to the right of the place you are putting this will slide on down the line no matter how many tracks you have of video or audio. If edited into a separate seby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Composite modes - Transition Rendering issues. - 18 years agoTry using Opacity keyframes instead of a transition. That might work better for you. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Tell me htere is a a KEY I cna hold to turn off Snap to grid. - 18 years agoNope. No temp key. But I rarely use snapping, only turning it ON when I need the alignment. Maybe you should try that. You're bound to either edit with it on or off more often. Perhaps you are just defaulting to the wrong state. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: SIENNA - 18 years agoI'm not necessarily sure that it's too little too late. My station soured on Avid due to piss-poor tech support, extortionist upgrade costs, delays in integration and general arrogance of position in the market. We currently use Meridian Newscutters (highest upgrade of those) which we only recieved after a 5 year long fight with Avid over integration at our station. 5 years, only to see that Aby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Moving a project from Avid Film Composer to FCP 5 - 18 years agoEDL should enable you to batch redigitize your project. If you need access to your original omf file, you're really going to need something like the automatic duck. OMF is an Avid format and not widely supported outside Avid. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Syncing video events with audio waveform spikes - 18 years agoA music teacher of mine once told me, "Music is math, but don't ever try to approach music like a mathamatician." Even though there is structure to music, you should try to remain fluid when cutting to it. I will always make cuts initially by just listening and throwing down markers where I "feel" the cut should happen. Then, later, I will tighten it up to make up for anyby Andy Neil - Café LA |
